Since when is #17 an entity by itself? You're just acting like this cause most people didn't like Bra in the previous pages and just because she is your favorite doesn't mean you are going to start to bash everything just to defend Bra. It isn't funny. If going back to DBM winning formula isn't enough for you then I don't understand you.

U16 already had the spotlight for about 3 chapters. It is about time to change the spotlight onto another universe. Contrary to what you say these aren't unimportant or unnecessary characters/plot since the whole idea of DBM is about different universes.

All the twenty universes are the main characters. It isn't U16, U18 and certainly not just a character like Bra.

I love U9. I think it's one of the most interesting universes. But Yamcha being an android diminishes his worth...again. I was hoping it would be the universe in which Yamcha really managed to accomplish something on his own. Where his power was exclusively his. But if he's actually an android it sort of cheapens his accomplishments. Once again Yamcha wasn't good enough. He needed some kooky scientist to fiddle with him before he could hang with the big boys.

I'm studying to become a professional translator, albeit in Dutch, but I know how difficult it can be.
I don't speak French, but I can tell there are certain common French phrases and words that aren't used as much in English.
I know from experience that it's not easy to work your mind around that while you're translating.

Going by the last page for example, I'm assuming "keep" and "maintain" have the same word in French, hence the 'mistake'.
Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.
Draws comics that may or may not have been blatantly inspired by Akira Toriyama's manga.

Does anybody else find the "Give me your trust!" panel really funny?

And I wonder if Cell's planning something. This is a really good page.

This is one of the pages in which I actually don't have a problem with the phrasing. "Maintains" in that context might be a little verbose but it's not actually improper English.

"Quite a jaunt" should read "One hell of a party" (or technically "one hell of an escapade," but it's the last half-hour of a 10-hour workday and I'm too full of Benylin to think of a better alternative to "escapade"), "I take note" should be either "I'll make a note of that" or "I'll take note of that."

"Maintains her on" works in context in French only. "If he continues to pin her to" is better. In French, he's implying something that means "maintains the ability of keeping her pinned."

"give me your trust" should be "Put/place your trust in me." "Gneeeeee" is technically "Gniiiiiii" (I say technically, since the letter "I" in French makes the English "E" sound), but I'd say it's translator's perogative. I'd have left the Is, but it doesn't matter.

Dayspring, demand Salagir to put you in charge of the English translation.

Dayspring, those might be more accurate translations, I'm not really sure. But the actual English they did use is grammatically correct. The dialogue is also not wildly different from your translations. "Quite a jaunt" and "One hell of an escapade" mean pretty much the same thing. I don't think we need to nitpick word choices so long as there aren't any glaring diction or syntax errors like there have been in earlier pages.

And "maintains" in context actually does work in English. Sure, it probably would have just been easier to say "keeps" or "holds" but it's not grammatically incorrect as written.

How about this for a more "natural"-sounding translation?
  • "Seems like Universe 16 had one hell of an adventure..."
    "Thanks to Boo, I'd bet."

"Fight far enough from the arena, and you'll go unnoticed... That's good to know."

"If he can keep her pinned for just 13 more seconds, Yamcha will win."

"Please trust me. I'm on your side, here."
    "Raaagh!"

    "I won't let you win!"

"I don't care about that. I just want to help you."

Anybody interested can always just write their own corrected dialog (most of the times, it isn`t even necessary to read the french text to do so, like Kabom just demonstrated).

And then, its also possible to download the pages of the comic and write the corrected dialog in the corresponding text bubbles using photoshop or paint (the comic is free and even the actual art would not be touched, so I think there wouldn`t be anything wrong with that).

That way, if somebody really doesn`t like the current translation, it would be possible to have their dialog in a copy of the comic.

You could even try to send it to Salagir. Maybe he would think that the corrected dialog is much better and he would re-upload the pages with it (since the work of writing down the dialog in the pages would already be done, it would be a simple task of just uploading it).

That being said, the current English dialog is sufficient in making us clearly understand what is going on, so it accomplishes its main purpose. And it is really not as bad as people seem to imply. Its just awkward, sometimes.

I'm with Kaboom. Personally, I find a direct translation to be too weird sounding, so taking the direct and then making it sound good in English is the best route.

My guess is that Android #17 will say something to make #18 throw the fight or Yamcha will be a total pansy and forfeit to prove he doesn't care about winning.

I'm not. I for one loved the top half of the new page. Especially Cell planning his next move at last. I just hope Shitcha/GodCha/17 gets brutally murdered by 18's self destruct bomb on the next page. Or she gives up to save herself further humiliation. Notice how all the girls in DBM fail?

Kat - Forfeited
Pan - Beat a weakling then forfeited.
Pan - Neck snapped.
Zangya - Forfeited
Bra - almost killed her father.
18 - got her ass kicked by Shit17

Well I don't think Pan (U18) didn't actually forfeit but she was tempted to after seeing her alternate universe counterpart get brutally killed in her first match. Not to mention Bra from Universe 16 was not caught fighting out of the ring and despite her guilt over going overboard against Buu, she still seems to be in the tournament.

P.S. Personally I am just relieved a Yamcha somewhere is single handedly overpowering an opponent. :P

Dude, they're girls in a Dragon Ball related universe. Of course they failed. But lets be fair here, a lot of guys (and/or aliens) in the beginning of DBM either failed miserably or forfeited. Hell every guy and asexual being from universe 10 forfeited!
