Personally I don't really like that Goku/Vegeta aren't turning SSJ. I don't like the "don't need to turn SSJ2 or SSJ3" either, but I can sorta understand where they're comin from with the reason why.
I guess for me I pretty much associate later Z with SSJ so it's hard to take the two apart, considering this is a Freeza movie where there was only 1 SSJ

If history was changed, then whatever facts there are from the previous history don't really apply anymore.

But since, as has been said, there's no indication that history has, in fact, been changed, I don't see why this is an issue.

Could the fact that Goku doesn't go SSJ be the result of some sort of mystic style power up from Whis? Maybe Elder Kai was using an inferior (and possibly temporary) form of a technique originally made by Whis when Gohan got his power up.

It's more likely due to the fact that he absorbed his God form.
We don't know what role SS1 will play from now on, but Toriyama has recently claimed that it isn't gone.

Q: Goku endlessly keeps getting stronger, with Super Saiyan 3 in the manga and Super Saiyan 4 in the anime; does Super Saiyan keep getting limitlessly stronger too? Might we eventually see things such as a Super Saiyan 5…?!

A: Super Saiyan 2 and 3 are nothing more than powered-up variations of Super Saiyan. After the fight with Beerus, Goku realized that mastering his normal state and Super Saiyan would raise his level more and sap less strength, so I think he probably won’t become Super Saiyan 2 or 3 any more.

I'm still thinking that, especially with Goku and Vegeta wearing the same symbol, they're training under Beerus/Whis. Maybe, as part of their training, they were barred from transforming to fight Freeza?

Nah, the Rocky 4 montage was the best montage. Either that or Rocky 3. We need a video of Freeza running down the beach, and then jumping for joy after, and then hugging... let's say that tall bald purple guy after he does so.

I have to admit, I've never been fond of the idea that Freeza has never trained before. I didn't figure he did a lot of it, but I always assumed he'd had to at least train to learn to use the power he just innately had - wasn't there a line somewhere about how his father was the only one to hurt him prior to his fights on Namek? I had always assumed that was during his training too.

I'm siding with a few others on this one and betting that he just goes straight to Super Saiyan God at some point during this movie. It's kind of funny though - our very first 'footage' of this movie was him as a Super Saiyan.

I've said from the start that I don't believe they're going to bring Freeza back just to kill him. We saw Beerus offer Goku the job of Hakaishin, I can see him doing the same to Freeza now that he's become at least as strong as Goku. This is the only way for Freeza to return to anything resembling his old rule.

The latest news makes this seem even more likely.

It doesn't have to be that dramatic; can't he just pragmatically decide "Fuck, I need to catch up to these monkeys. They had to train their whole lives to reach levels where they could barely kill me; if I did that, I would literally be unstoppable!"

Which I would translate as:

This matches Dragon Ball Z's subtitles almost word for word.

親 doesn't have any fatherly/male connotations that I'm aware of, so I don't know where some of these are getting "Father" from. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Why bring him back just to kill him? How does that extend the series?
