FUNimation did great with DragonBall GT and looks like they are doing great with DragonBall now. Why can't they get DragonBall Z right?

Perhaps they'd zoom in for something as trivial as focusing on action scenes in the trailer?

I don't see why they'd zoom in for the trailer. Godofchaos said in the chat that FUNimation has newer prints of Dragon Ball than Dragon Ball Z.

Becuase FUNi know people would buy anything DBZ related, even if Gen Fukanaga shit in all the DVD packets and advertised it.

Who knows, since Toei and Funi are practically dating now, Toei probably fixed up the colors of the Dragon Box masters so they wouldn't be as old looking (dark colors, red & blue tint) like how kei17 mentioned and gave them to Funi.

Well, I don't think that's what he meant. He was talking about the last DVD release.

I should have specified. What I meant was that they might not go and get new prints for Dragon Ball if the ones they have are already good enough.

There's something BETTER than that?!

We probably shouldn't be making comparisons based off the trailer since, if I recall correctly, the GT sets' trailers had the footage kinda zoomed as well, and then that turned out not to be the case. Besides, if the comparisons posted two pages ago are any indication, the difference is so small that it falls into a territory of irrelevance. It's not like it's being cropped to widescreen.

As for that comparison screen of the shot from the opening, keep in mind that it's the opening, not the episodes themselves. Openings sometimes have weird stuff done to them that doesn't carry over into the episodes.

BTW, is it just me or is it funny how Toei's ambiguous reply of "they changed in quality (since broadcast)" is automatically taken as "OMG! THEY'RE OLD AND DARK AND WRONG COLORS AND SHITTY!" despite the fact that images in the Daizenshuu, published 13 years ago, look the same? ;p

They probably kept the 6 discs with Z because they were trying to be consistent in the packaging. GT was 5 discs too (99% sure I remember correclty, not gonna look though :-p) and it had 32 episdoes. They're probably trying to cut down on costs now with recession and what not.

Okay, I'm going to have to vent yet again about how freaking awesome it is that these are uncropped. And from the looks of the trailer, they haven't been DVNR'ed to death either! Nobody's skin is pale white! I've read all of the manga that covers these episodes, but I've never seen hardly any of the cartoon adaption, so I'm really excited that I'll be able to see all of the filler material.

Okay, so 31 episodes. That means if everything goes perfectly, we should get opening one, endings one and two, the first eyecatcher, and four insert songs. Hopefully it'll all happen.
