I took the same scene from the Season Sets, Kai and the R2 DBox. I adjusted for almost all issues (I forgot the 10% brightness issue from the R2 discs, but oh well) and I had to downsize the Kai BluRay to 720P.

Put them all into one single 1080P frame and made it PS3 compatible for those that was to put it on a USB drive and play it that way.

Other than picture quality issues, I was surprised by how much faster Kai actually moved along in terms of the action. They cut out more than just the non-action filler.

VegettoEX wrote:Yes, I do think it's reasonable. What planet are some of you people living on where $25 for a good chunk of episodes* on Blu-ray is expensive? I mean, I can understand if you're some punk kid with absolutely no money of your own, but when you put it in perspective with other releases, it's not significantly different.

The Walking Dead first season Blu-ray set is $49.99 MSRP for six episodes (granted, the episodes are an hour long, and I think the first episode was even longer), and you can get it for $25 -- huh, interestingly enough, around the same price as DBZ for a similar amount of run-time content.

Make comparisons with other shows, new and old alike. American or otherwise. Compare their prices and run-times with DBZ. Now go and look at other anime, particularly ones FUNimation aren't responsible for putting out. Come back when you see which company has the most progressive and generous pricing structures.

I come from 2-episode dub-only VHS days. Get off my goddamn lawn, kids.

(*Yes, you have to take into consideration how many times you may have already purchased the same content on prior formats, but let's just toss that out the window for now.)
I was about to make a post like this. 3 episodes for $30 bucks on VHS... and I had a good chunk of the series on VHS.

This price point is nothing. The only thing that stings is this would be the 6th time owning the Saiyan saga episodes. But here's how I see it.

Scenario A: Somehow, FUNimation releases a godlike remaster that is superior to the Dragon Boxes in every way. In this case, I am completely fine spending $25 bucks a pop on these releases.

Scenario B: The remaster isn't as good as the Dragon Box. I don't buy a single one of these sets and not a single fuck was given.

Luckily for us, this isn't the Orange Bricks scenario. At that time, there was 0 reason to think FUNi would release the Dragon Boxes/a better release... so I was forced to buy these sets in order to see season 1 and 2 in Japanese and own the remainder of the series I didn't already have on DVD. If only I could predict the freaking Dragon Boxes

I'm hoping these are really good. I'd love to use them as a Blu-ray stand-in for Kai's lack of a Boo arc.

Price is fine, it's just the particular episodes your getting for it, in this case. Of course, Funimation can't really do much about that without hampering their release schedule, and if the trailer sets a precedent they may well work on two sets at a time.

Aren't Blu-rays more exspensive than DVDs?

Seeing as Funi did english versions of all the GT songs is it possible they might dub "Cha La Head Cha La" and "Detekoi tobikiri Zenkai Power" for these sets?
"HEAD CHA LA!"

Is $25 the MSRP? Because if you have a little patience with anything Funi -- like wait a month or two -- it usually goes down in price considerably or at thevery least there's a cheaper deal somewhere.

Awesome news, can't wait to see the results. I was fearing this would be an upscale but it seems they're actually making a new HD transfer. And manual frame-by-frame remastering? It actually sounds too good to be true. Hopefully they used a better master for this than what what they used for the orange bricks.

The MSRP is $35, Amazon's price right now is $25.

You're right. If you wait on these a few months, I bet this set is gonna be $15.00 - $20.00 on Amazon. It's typical for a DBZ release that's been out for a while to go down in price but with Amazon, the price usually plummets!

Me though, if everything looks good, I won't be waiting.

For the first part of the series, I probably won't wait either. I guess they figure they can only extract so much more cash out of use that have purchased the episodes already in one form or another?

But, I was introduced to the series through a few of the movies and the Goku v. Vegeta fight years ago through fan subs - so I'll be interested in seeing how it looks on Blu. But for future episodes, you're right. All the DB discs out there take a decent price drop relatively soon.

Personally I don't mind waiting a month or two if it means the difference between $40 or $20, unless it's a release I really want to support like the Dragonboxes or what have you.

FYI, like I said, most things Funi go down in price after a few months, not just Dragon Ball.

This is pretty cool. One of the first things you learn in design is work big, so that when it's smaller it hides a lot of the inperfections. It's interesting how the season sets don't look all that bad other than the cropping when it's super tiny like this.

I kinda feel like this release is for all the dub fans who didn't like Kai, especially with the 'Hope of the universe' bullshit plastered on the box.

I had a dream last night about somebody posted a comparison with the Dragon Box and the Blu-Ray on this thread and the MSRP was 30$. :P
