It specifically states in the official Sailor Moon Japanese website that these BDs will be upscales, rather than native HD scans.coola wrote:Lots of new projects were announced for 25th anniversary:
New season of Crystal (Possibly both Dream and Stars, since it is supposed to be 22 episodes)
Original anime will be released on Blu Ray (Not sure if it will be same quality as Animax HD, or better)

Dream arc will be released as 2 movies, that's quite unexpected, but it could work, Dream have 11 chapters, it should fit in 2 1.5-2 hour long movies, and Chiaki Kon returns as director

Fucking facepalm. I wanted the series that finally focused on the inner senshi to be well... A SERIES! Toei REALLY hates giving any bones to the poor Inner Senshi.

As far as I can tell, the original Sailor Moon's animation was above average, but did not match the dreamy mangic of Naoko Takeuchi's art.

DB, and maybe Yu-Gi-Oh, has no such issues. Toei has kept fairly close to Toriyama's comic and visceral art.

The first 2 seasons of Crystal absolutely didn't look like the manga. They deviated further from the original anime (which the only major difference in style were the shape of the eyes and the chins are a bit rounder).
In the first 2 seasons of Crystal, everyone has huge heads with tiny faces and extremely pointy chins. The worst part is the removal of every silly expression and scene ('cuz they're pretty soldiers, get it?), which makes scenes like Usagi getting kicked out of her house in the first episode depressing and pitiful instead of humorous like the manga and original anime. They always had a blank, dopey look on their faces at all times, which makes them all look very dainty and air-headed, rather than actual characters with personality like the manga and original anime. I also think the original series' pastel colored backgrounds helped add to that "dreamy" art of Takeuchi's.
Season 3 was a huge step up in style and animation, but it deviated stylistically even further from the manga in terms of character designs.
