Okay, here's the WebMs:

First Tate cut from Vegeta vs Hit - http://webm.land/media/ieT0.webm

Second cut also by Tate during Goku vs Hit towards the end of the episode - http://webm.land/media/bJkw.webm

Will also WebM the head rotation, but my render is messed up, so will wait on a better one.

Tate now has the most notable cuts to his name than any other supervisor on Super. Otsuka may change that next week! I guess we'll see.

A bunch of great animation in the Goku vs Hit segment of the episode:
Fantastic stuff by Tate and the team.

Okay, stellar animation in this episode.

I slightly preferred the Vegeta half, but the whole thing looked great.

Tate tries to do too much with too little time and ends up failing.

Art work first, then more frames second. The characters need to look like themselves.

So you would prefer how episode 35 ended up than this episode ?

Yes, although I'd much rather Super looked like the Cabba episode. Fluid animation, good art work.

Fluid animation with crappy artwork, is like new seats on a car with 3 wheels.

He's not failing, it's intentional. If you take a look at any of Tate's One Piece work, it is no different to what he produces in Super.

If you don't like his style, that's fine, but it's certainly not down to lack of time and failure.

I don't really understand how the characters don't look like themselves, though. All of the key frames looked fine; what exactly is your issue?

Cabba episode was episode 37.Episode 35 have an on-model art but the animation was comparable to slide show.

Yes! Oh man, I tweeted about this earlier on.
Not only is Tate's action good, he injects so much character into the smallest movements -- knockbacks, for example.
So good. He also did a similar thing when Goku rebounds back to a crouching position. Really great looking.

I think art is more important than animation, this could have the greatest animation, but if the art is bad, and the characters are off model, then it kinda kills it. I didn't have a problem with episode 35, it was watchable, it didn't need to have the best animation.

I really, really like these "CGs" scenes, like the one Vegeta going far away while on the ground and the camera goes with him. It's so dynamic. How bad I wish for it to be used more often.

It's the amateur art work all throughout the fight scenes.

I'd rather have a slideshow with great art, than crappy art work with "fluid" animation. This animation style really sticks out like a sore thumb

Image

No fan of the show would let this art work get on air. Tate should stay away from DB unless it's a movie.

As long as the art is recognizable then I will always prefer great animation over stiff on model stuff. It's an anime, not a comic.

Tate didn't do the part where Goku draws blood from Hit?
I'd love a webm of that whole Goku VS Hit fight.

Entirely disagree.

Animation is about motion. It's about injecting a feeling into what you're seeing on screen. Tate does that remarkably well. Whether it be an action cut, a dialogue piece, or a subtle movement; he absolutely nails it. That's what sets good animators apart from mediocre ones. It's what puts tonight's episode beyond anything we've seen so far.

While I'll concede that there is certainly a limit to how off-model you can be, I don't think that argument is particularly valid here. As I've already posted, there wasn't anything bad about Tate's drawing quality tonight. It wasn't adhering to Yamamuro's designs strictly, but it doesn't need to. The characters looked like the characters, and that's fine.

If you want stiff, lifeless art that's on-model, you get that 90% of the time.
What's the issue? There's literally nothing wrong with these images. First image is from Vegeta being punched; of course he's reacting to that. Second image is fine. Third image is wonky, I'll give you that. Next one is fine, and the last one is an inbetween in a great cut. Why the fuck are you posting inbetweens? There's nothing wrong with that image, either.

I don't know what you're trying to prove here, other than that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the principles of animation.

You can dislike something while understanding it's not bad, you know that?

Ajay, any idea who did the second part of Hit VS Goku?

There were a lot of really good Hit shots, I wish I had access to an HD raw to take pictures.

This shot really reminded me of a shot of Goku before he transformed in Resurrection 'F'.
They are pretty different, but I got a similar vibe. Thought it felt really familiar.

The little bit that's there looks pretty solid to me. Hopefully the battle takes to the air and doesn't just stay on the ground.

I like the choreography the NEP seems to have. Combine that with animation from Ken Ootsuka and I think it might be a solid episode.
