So, I'm thinking of giving a character Elder Kia's potential unlock, but I don't want them to get a power up from just doing nothing for 24 hours. Which is why I thought of an extra requirement for the whole power up process to work, that your mind has to be at peace in some way. The character in question has a lot of personal demons, earning to survive the process they have a whole character building dream flashback/fight. The idea needs refining, but I think it could be interesting.

Or should I just make it a 24 hour Godflix and Chill session?

The elder kaioshin was also constantly reminding Gohan to stay focused, so I speculate that it took longer than it should because the process was exhaustive on its own. My suggestion is to have your character meditate over his "latent power" and that could lead to him reflect about his life, namely his personal demons - the ritual and the meditation don't have to be related but you can always tie them up for a deeper meaning.

It seems to me that fusion is initiated by the one giving up their body, which means that they have the ultimate negotiation card: Dying instead of fusing. Since namekian fusion is a sort of death for the fusee, it's a choice between a death and a death which helps someone you don't want to help, and the choice, then, is pretty clear. In short, I don't think so.
That's excluding things like mind control, of course.

When the barrier between the Demon Realm and the Middleworld was broken by the force of the Super Spirit Bomb, it caused a hole to be created on Earth, connecting the Realm directly to Earth. Kuraishi decided to bide his time, growing stronger and stronger by training with his 4 generals, Maike, Gavur, Rafur, and Azura; his base power grows to the point where he can overpower Buuhan, with his generals around SSJ3. Now, 5 years after the defeat of Majin Buu, Kuraishi has decided to make his move...

  Kuraishi is named after black (and star, I think). Did a Toriyama Turn and switched some characters around.

Yeah, actually. While Kuraishi (and the rest of the Demon Army) is ~Dabura levels after training, they also have other abilities which bypass ki and really suck.

Imagine Dabura's abilities, but common grunts have that too (to a lesser scale).

In the Demon Realm, as a sort of antithesis to God ki, there's 'dark' ki. It's the Demon Realm's version of God ki, except it is only accessible to demons or Majins. Majin Buu was originally infused with a lot of dark ki, but all of the subsequent absorptions, defusions, and finally, the Super Spirit Bomb have diluted it to the point of barely even being there. Dabura had a decent amount of dark ki, but held most of the secrets to unlocking more dark ki to his warlocks and mages.

When he died, Kuraishi managed to get ahold of the secret to absorbing dark ki. He surpasses Buu right before entering. Unknowingly, the sheer amount of dark ki he takes in unlocks a line of transformations.

How do you guys feel about borrowing concepts from other franchises? I've been considering using Naruto's Reanimation (also known as Impure World Reincarnation). I'd encourage you guys to give that a read if you're unfamiliar with the technique.

In short, it takes a DNA sample from a dead being's physical body, requires a live being as a sacrifice, and with the use of seals, inserts the aforementioned dead being's soul into a body just like the being's physical one they had before death. There are some extra kinks such as bodily decay, though that's only cosmetic.

Now, my point: would it feel un-Dragon Ball to utilize something like this, or is it excusable because fanfic?

Any ideas for a "Goku never bumps his head" story where the Dragon Balls are still involved? Or else it wouldn't be Dragon Ball. It should also keep his trademark humor without getting too dark. I would like to write a story which could feel like something Toriyama would write. I wouldn't make it too long like most fan fictions.

Okay, prehaps you could have it that this evil Goku, is never strong enough to do any evil acts, also whenever he's about to do something evil, he always gets interrupted or something. Honestly besides outright killing him that is the only other way evil Goku can even feasibly work. Prehaps he can also slowly become a good guy?

But for the iffy statements like my forms are suppresions, then I can edit that as I will. So will proably write down a plot summary before I do this, thoughts?

Do you guys really care about your works being «too dark» or «not Toriyama-like» by DB standars? Acording to my friends that's a big problem with my fanfics but I have never seen it like a big deal, and I definetly don't know how to write something «Toriyama-like». It's true that some of my works are too dark compared to the original manga trough.

I'm writing the first plot outline write as we speak. All I got to say is. Its gonna be a tad gory.
