I'm going to bet that Freeza's new form from ROF will end up being DLC to cash in on the new movie.

Didn't the datamine have a character named "FRG" or something listed around Frieza's other form names?
Possibility that the new Frieza form is in from the start to promote RoF?
Low, I'm sure.

I think the FRG was for the future Frog body of Captain Ginyu.

When did they say that?

Namco Bandai is at Game Awards since they plan to announced the upcoming Godzilla PS3 game for the North American market. Maybe we will see some new gameplay footage of XV later tonight.

A few other things worry me though:
- I am quite disappointed about the apparent bare-bones combat mechanics the custom characters have. I sure the animations will be different, but it's a shame you can't mix up the combos that much.
- You can only have one transformation equipped, and the costume decides that.
- Moves and transformations are tied to costume. So you don't have the freedom of greatly customizing your costume, special attacks or transformations
- Created Saiyans can go Super Saiyan 2 and most likely Super Saiyan 3. This mechanic will be abused to hell and back online
- DLC all but confirmed. Fuck DLC. It's a cancer in gaming.
But I think the worst thing I gained from the stream was the fact that offline 1 vs 1 batttle can only seem to take place on the World Martial Arts Tournament stage. That is straight up bullshit!
Other than that, I'm still looking forward to the game but with more casual optimism.

I'm pretty pumped. Game looks to have put all the gimicky stuff on the backburner in favour of rock solid gameplay. Combos and blocking seemed to be the real selling point from that stream and that has me very happy.
It was quite surreal hearing Sonny Strait beat the shit out of Nozawa too! Hooray for unfinished demos.

DLC is fine depending on how its done. For example, Elder Scrolls and Borderlands. If its material that was made after the game is done or had to be cut due to certain constraints then I'm fine with it. Now if its stuff that was done and just saved for later, then yeah that sucks.

I really don't think they would do something that stupid, especially since all playable demos (and the network test) allowed you to select a stage. It might be the default stage for a specific vs. option since you're going up to the budokai announcers.Lord Beerus wrote:sangofe wrote:But I think the worst thing I gained from the stream was the fact that offline 1 vs 1 batttle can only seem to take place on the World Martial Arts Tournament stage. I have a feeling that isn't going to be the case. Sure casual fanboys will most likely do it, but I believe the more serious players who figure out that these forms aren't going to be usable lightly will come up with characters that won't abuse it.Created Saiyans can go Super Saiyan 2 and most likely Super Saiyan 3. It seems like Super Vegeta 2 (ki damage version of Super Saiyan 2) + whatever the best ki Ultimate is (Nappa's?) will still be a pain in the ass to deal with from spammers.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

It might be at first, but once you get your character up to speed with a well built move set and the right equipment you'll be able to overcome these spammers easily. We need to remember that Saiyans are, from this game's perspective, Glass Cannons. They can dish out a lot of damage (more so after being revived), but their HP sucks so a few well hit combos, Supers, and Ultimates will be enough to win. We also need to remember that the transformation system isn't something you can just use freely, especially when using the higher levels. Even if you're able to recharge your ki (I recall a couple of recorded plays from Comic-Con of a pre-made female Saiyan character being able to charge while in her Super Saiyan form) you're still going to have to find situations where you can do it without being attacked (especially in 1v1). Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 are going to be difficult to use effectively due to the drain so you can't just stick it on your Ultimate slot and expect it to work. Again, casual fanboys will attempt to do this because they believe it will win them the fight, but they'll find it to be their downfall should they try spamming Ultimates.Saiga wrote:It seems like Super Vegeta 2 (ki damage version of Super Saiyan 2) + whatever the best ki Ultimate is (Nappa's?) will still be a pain in the ass to deal with from spammers.

Saiyans have crappy HP? I knew there'd need to be some balance but that seems like the least accurate way to do it. It's usually Saiyans that survive the worst beatings...
I would have really preferred if the base stats between the races didn't vary. It's sort of like clothes - I want it to be purely aesthetic, but could accept a small influence on stats.

It's most likely a nod to the Human race in Dragonball Online. They had incredible attack power, but their defenses and HP sucked because they didn't have ways to boost it outside of armor. It's kinda ironic when you think about it since Humans in Xenoverse are considered the "Jack of All Trades" race of the game.Saiga wrote:Saiyans have crappy HP? The customization has a real RPG feel to it, to the point wear it's pretty much over saturated the experience. That means in order to have a worth while created character he'd have to be wearing Ox King's helmate, Tenshinhan's upper Gi and Nappa's undies.. And on top of that you can't change the color? SMH No bueno
.
Looks like I won't be using any OCs outside of the story mode. Until I boost his stats up to the point where it doesn't matter what he's wearing. (if that's even possible)
All n all it seems as though like in Typical DBZ game fashion they screw up a few things just to leave us wanting a sequel. Well I'm still getting the game regardless, it's the most fun looking game I've seen in quite a bit.
Also I've grown to not care much about combat depth in a DBZ game, I have other great franchises to turn to if I want hardcore play. So while this game definitely seems to be focusing more on gameplay (for the better), I'll probably just aim to get familiar with the basics and we'll see how it goes from there. Cuz chances are once MKX drops, then Tekken 7 and SF-5 this game'll definitely be collecting dust.

In Smash all of the characters have the same combos but at the same time they're completely different from each other so the same could and probably will apply here so that's nothing to worry as long as you know how to play with each character.Sanity's_Theif wrote:I think the bad news is that combos are the same for every character; it's like tenkaichi 1 or dynasty warriors, pretty disappointed, I was hoping for a combo system at least as deep as Budokai 3 here :/
No beam struggles? Aw, I'm gonna miss it since they were so much fun on the Budokai, Infinite World and Burst Limit games but oh well, not really a deal breaker.sangofe wrote:from the live stream sum-up:

they were 1v1 games only, that's why, it makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that Raspberry and Appule are in the roster but probably Zarbon, Dodoria, Chaotzu and Darbula won't!!!!dbboxkaifan wrote: No beam struggles? Not in IW. But yeah, it'll be missed. It's a fun little thing to have. But I'm sure the emphasis on combos in this game makes even having that mechanic needless. Watching Brandon play made me re-think how to approach the combat.dbboxkaifan wrote:No beam struggles? Everything is shaping up nicely I'd say. I'm still hype, and they still have yet to show us the villain in shadows.

They took it out of IW? My bad I confused it up with B3.
I don't see why they couldn't have beam clashes on XV1 but maybe we'll have on XV2.

They did explain why. It would be a mess in a team battle setting. I've seen them work in DBZ sims like ESF and Zeq2, but whatever. Maybe they can find a way to implement it in the next installment.dbboxkaifan wrote:They took it out of IW? My bad I confused it up with B3.
