It's just a picture of Goku :P
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Yeah, I'm fairly sure he meant to link this.

I still hate how watery all the line art looks in this release.

Will someone pleaaaaaaaaaaaase do me a small favor? was the episode were Goku blasts Cell with a Kamehameha left fully intact? Because they edited out a part of it on the orange bricks. Goku says Kameha missing *me* then Ha! happens at 1:14 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg1bCXFLKdY it's freaking weird why they did that!

:? You made it sound like it's a visual edit at first. The Bricks are very much uncut. Either way, I remember that and thought it was weird. It's just an audio mistake. Funny, the DB Wiki says the exact opposite. :problem:

Looks like they're not really messing with the colors anymore. Though it all it does is make me wish the Level sets never got cancelled
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I was talking about the line art. None of it looks black and crisp as it should be. They all look like old, faded cels rather than how they should look.

It just looks so watery and out of focus.

For comparison's sake:
Once again, these sets feature washed out, near ghost-like line art and overly bright colours.

This is an 80s/90s animated all-ages show that was popular amongst kids. It's not some potent super weapon that might fall into the wrong hands that we have to protect from evil.

Holy shit, look how blurry this is! How are we calling this an improvement?!
Kai may have been a little on the soft side of things but at least its line art didn't feature heavy ghosting. The season set is so watery and horrible.

I hope you guys are opening these images at 100% and comparing them.

EDIT: To clarify - what I mean is that not everyone will be viewing these screenshots on full 1080p monitors or large TVs since the average PC user has a monitor (laptop) at a resolution of 1366 x 768. These Blu-rays don't look awful when they're viewed small so when I say 'open at 100%', I'm simply asking that you actually right click and open them in a new window at 100% so you can actually see the level of detail you're going to notice on your average TV. Base opinions on how they'll actually be seen rather than something scaled down.

Cropping aside, I think I can say this is honestly no worse than some of Toei's other remasters in the HD era. The Galaxy Express 999 TV series looks pretty awful from what I've seen.

I'm really surprised by these colors, though -- I remember this part being a lot darker on the orange bricks. It seems that they did a lot more color correction for those. In hindsight, maybe that was a really good thing. I'd bet the later orange brick seasons would have looked great in HD and might stand side by side with these for quality (how high the quality is, of course, subjective.)
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
The Galaxy Express 999 Blu-rays were standard definition upconverts though. This was all scanned in HD - it's just been butchered by FUNi's 'remastering' methods.

Look at the lines on his face, his eyes, anywhere. The entire thing has ghosting around each edge. It's not a solid line as it should be. It looks like the bleeding you get from a watercolour or gaussian blur filter.

He's referring to the ghosting that occurs arounds the lines. Here's a more pronounced example.

Even at a small size, it's obvious how smudged the line art is.

I'll get some Orange Brick comparisons in a bit.
