Though, and I can't make any promises... you may see it on our page, in the near future... though expect it to be different in a few places.
Now, what kind of differences are we talking about? And are they because FUNi has a stick up their butt, or because you guys have had time to look back and decide to change a few things?
So... I'm making a TeamFourStar Dragonball Abridged DVD!

I don't really get it?KaiserNeko wrote:Hm... You know...ShinRogafuken wrote:Wait, by the way everyone is talking it sounds like this DVD is going to be distributed around (not even buying/selling, just receiving it).
You guys could get in serious trouble for that....if you're caught anyways.
He raises a point, here. When it's on Youtube, it's even more appropriately a free parody that has little effect on the show for FUNimation. I can imagine them getting a little more temperamental over the material being distributed as something which can be put onto DVD, for free or otherwise.
I'd like to think FUNimation wouldn't be all that upset about it, but at this point we've already pushed our realms of comfort with them, I'd rather not push them any further. Perhaps this idea is best left as a fun idea and nothing more.
But if your not comfortable with me creating this DVD to share i'll just make one for myself using the footage i've gathered off youtube and leave it at that

Lucasfilm of all companies doesn't mind or raise any legal threat towards all of the Star Wars fan edits, and DVD iso's of said fan edits being distributed online as long as it's free. I don't see there being an issue with this, as long as it remains not for profit.KaiserNeko wrote:Hm... I think one of the reasons FUNimation is so stingy about potential losses of profit is because Gen Fukunaga wants to keep everything as tight as possible... so that he can receive his million dollar bonuses for certain income levels. If I were offered as much as he was to get profits up to a certain level, I too would do everything in my power to halt any potential losses... the problem is that he and the people he has looking for such potentials mistake a lot of harmless material as "potential profit diminishers", such as DBZA.snaku wrote:Lucasfilm of all companies doesn't mind or raise any legal threat towards all of the Star Wars fan edits, and DVD iso's of said fan edits being distributed online as long as it's free. But I don't see how they could bring up any valid argument against offering higher quality versions of fan-parody videos that are already available in the same manner (streaming/downloadable).

I would assume that the fans and subscribers of TeamFourStar kind of serves as a blanket of security. It's not good business to piss off the people who you market too.SSj_Rambo wrote:Yeah, but that only gives FUNi more reason to come down hard on everything TFS does using their footage...Innagadadavida wrote:Just release the ISO on bittorrent and don't credit anybody. I know, I know, "but they've been pissing us off for years." That may be true, but DBZA appeals to a much larger crowd than the hardcore DBZ fans. It not only appeals to casual fans who could care less about the quality of DVD releases, but also people who have never been exposed to the series.
The ISO would only be another way of enjoying DBZA and spreading the word about this series and the parody series even further. It's not a replacement to the source material, more like a companion. A free companion at that. If FUNimation was smart, they'd give the whole thing a silent okay. But I do know that when it comes to DBZ Funimation doesn't always make the right decisions.

Funimation really needs to learn to embrace the fan parody community. Why can't they take a page from some game companies who are fully in favor of Machinima made with their games. I know it's not the same, because using game footage could never amount to pirating the games, but god damn, Microsoft even ended up paying and using the Red vs. Blue guys for promo stuff.
There is another problem with distributing DVDs physically.
Even if they are to be offered for free, somebody still has to pay the distribution costs. Would it be the one making the DVDs or the consumer? And depending on who you choose to distribute with, somebody is going to make a profit. Suppose a person in the UK wanted a copy of the DVD... it would have to go through some of kind of distribution mechanism that would make money for the distributor.
FUNimation doesn't want ANYONE making a profit from their series but them.
I would worry that even releasing the ISO through BitTorrent could have a negative impact. FUNimation may just say "that's it" and decide to take TeamFourStar down all-together. I'd hate for that to happen, but it's a possbility that has to be taken into consideration.
As for the theory of "not pissing off those who you market to". It makes sense, but you'd need to have a much greater number of people who have watched TFS' series for it to have any overall impact. Also, of the number of subscribers they do have - only a proportion will be "hardcore" DBZ fans, and even smaller proportion will be avid supporters who will buy the DVDs/merchandise. Even assuming ALL those people (which is incredibly unlikely) stop supporting FUNi and buying their products, it's still relatively small in the overall context of things.
I hate to sound like the pessimist, because I do think it's a great idea, but we have to completely real about it. I'm still willing to offer the aforementioned services should you need them.

It'll only cost you the cost of buying a blank disc and having the ability to burn the ISO
if you already got the ability to burn a DVD then its just the cost of the blank dvd
£5.00 ($7.27) for 25 blank DVD-R'S thats £0.20 for a single disk

Honestly, nothing is really going to come of it if the ISO or the .avi files are distributed from within this forum. I really hope this works out...
$ Just messin' with ya'!
You can get 100 blank DVD's for $0.30 apiece from Walmart.

though I'm still gonna make the dvd even if its just the footage from youtube.
comparing the avi and the mp4 there wasnt a huge difference in quality.

Same here, but I would have to say that there is a decent difference in the quality of the two video formats. Here are some loosely accurate comparison shots:Sshadow5001 wrote:though I'm still gonna make the dvd even if its just the footage from youtube.

Of course the color/contrast is basically identical, the resolution if much better in the .avi files; and when you're going to be throwing this footage up on a full-size television (most likely and HD one at that), the difference in resolution will be very obvious.
That gets me thinking, maybe a comparison between the video quality of what people got on YouTube (the .mp4 files) and what we were provided with for this DVD (the .avi files) bonus-feature would be nice? If I end up making the DVD myself, I'll probably through it in.
