I do like the man, really. He's like a retarded puppy who slobbers all over you and eats part of the couch but he's just so fuzzy with that little face and you just can't helping liking him all the same. He's sweet in his obliviousness, and in a lot of ways he really just doesn’t know any better.
On the other hand? You see, I see the Son family through the lens of Piccolo's perspective thanks to many years worth of writing fanfiction involving them. So when I think about them and say.... Son not only throws Gohan into the ring against Cell, but also gives Cell a senzu so his child can endure as much pain and suffering as possible. Or say Son decides instead of coming home he'll go off to cavort with strong dead guys and have fun fighty time instead of paying any thought to his young son and pregnant wife. Or ten thousand other obnoxious horrible things he does in blowing off everyone he's suppose to care about. I mean, I know he was dropped on his head as a baby and he's borderline mentally retarded. But still, that kind of thing still pisses me off like crazy.
Last little note..... I call him Son. It's because of the perspective I see things through. People who have that 'old school Sayiajin empire" POV would likewise be compelled to call him Kakkarot, and they likely would refer to him that way in casual conversation with other people who know something about the series. They're all perfectly legitimate names for the character and it's needless to argue with people about terms that all come down to the same thing.

Son-kun is a nickname only used by Bulma as far as I remember, like Chichi refers to her husband by Goku-sa. It's just their ways of using endearment terms.
And if I'm talking about the rest of the family I'll specify who I'm talking about. I'm aware of the possible mix-up so I try to make things clear in my verbiage and I'll still use Goku if that makes it easier to understand. I just automatically refer to him as Son in conversation with people because it's what I'm used to.

His full name is Son Gouku. Everybody calls him that. Like 3 people call him Kakarotto. It's not the same thing.SaiyaMel wrote:Personally, I don't think refering to him as "Kakkarot" is any worse than another fan addressing him as "Son", "Son Goku", or "Son Kun"! Get over it...

Gouku is just a variation on the name "Goku". If Toriyama can spell Gouku as Gokuh then I think what I'm doing is fine.JulieYBM wrote:There is no 'u' after 'go'. Not really. 'Uh' is an acceptable (albeit strange) romanization of くう, but 'Gouku' is just a pointless way of spelling his name.Freeza.exe wrote:Gouku is just a variation on the name "Goku". Nobody even borught it up, it seems like you're just craving attention at this point. As stated, Kakarrot is a birth name given to Goku, one which he dismissed the second he heard it, because it's not his name. If I found out I was actually adopted, and my birth name was "bob", I wouldn't suddenly want people to call me bob. I'd dismiss it, and keep going on as Rory.SaiyaMel wrote:Personally, I don't think refering to him as "Kakkarot" is any worse than another fan addressing him as "Son", "Son Goku", or "Son Kun"! You're just trying to too hard to delve into this whole "Saiyan culture" thing (I never get it when fans do that, at all). By the end of the series, only Vegeta calls him Kakarrot, because he's being a stuck up prick. I'm pretty sure that Goku is the one who gets to pick his own name, and since the manga, the anime, the video games, and every other piece of media seems identify him as "Son Goku", that contributes a lot to the final answer too..

Seriously people. If it's an actual name for the character, or one of a few possible romanizations of the symbols that make up his name let it the hell go. We all know who each of us is talking about.

No, I'm not... Velasa brought that to light in his response (just a post before mine above) about him referring to him as "Son"..
Velasa tends to refer to him as "Son", and he's a Piccolo fan.. I don't have a problem with that either. Sure, admitted it may come off as strange seeing fans mimicking such things... but I still am not embarrassed (in fact, I I'm casual about it) about addressing him as "Kakarot". All those Klingon-fanatic trekkies who learn to speak the Klingon language, and go under Klingon names as their screen names online... same thing. You're just trying to too hard to delve into this whole "Saiyan culture" thing (I never get it when fans do that, at all).
I, along with SaiyanProfessor, aren't so caught up in what is perceived "normal/acceptable" (or otherwise) behavior among other fans - unlike you and some others here appear to be...
Aside from this - I'm pretty much an normal person.
Just Saiyan...
