Ooor, how about a new dub instead? That'd be nice?Son Wukong wrote:I would be lying if I said I wasn't happy. They could make me even happier by throwing away the dub with the Japanese bgm. But I'll stop here before I sound like some spoiled kid.
NOT going to happen... but it would be nice...
Anyway, I really am happy to hear this. I honestly feel that the dub score has no place whatsoever in the show. It's entire existence, to me, is arbitrary and it's good to see a quality product released as any other show would today... sans any attempt at a true-to-the-original dub.
By the way, I'm not totally against the dub music in that, I think there were a few decent tracks. Some very catchy tunes throughout, like Perfect Cell's theme and Vegeta's "Hells Bells". However, I still hold firm that it's entirely inappropriate for the show, regardless of the fanbase that grew during it's use.

Not going to happen to Z but I'll be sure to give them a fair chance if they ever decide to dub Kai.KaiserNeko wrote:Ooor, how about a new dub instead? But just to get waaaaay ahead of myself, if I ever hear ''Vegeta'' and ''hammeroids'' in one sentence again....all hope would be lost.
I am very happy to hear that there will only be 1 english track taking up space on these disks.
I'll concede that, because this is an American release, the set needs an English track, but taking disk space away from the video transfer to stuff two English tracks on there is redundant and counter productive to the point of this release. I didn't really care which track was included, but having two of them on there just to satisfy a minority's desire for nostalgia kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

Alright so now that we know that the Dragon Box will feature only two tracks, what are some of your thoughts on the visual quality? Having listened to a podcast, I got the impression that the Japanese Dragon Boxes were not packed completely, so FUNimation MIGHT be able to pull it off. Do you think that the footage would be able to look the same with the amount of episodes per disc, an additional audio track (one not two...HA), subtitles (probably one set of subtitles, doing away with the dub ones), and POSSIBLY alternate angles (or if not, hopefully they keep the Japanese one!)? Do you think it's possible for FUNimation to keep the visual quality of the Dragon Boxes in Japan? Personally, it sucks that the Japanese audio is pretty bad quality on the Season Sets and the singles, but I'd sacrifice that to get the visual quality to be honest.
One more thing. Since they dubbed the GT music and are running with the whole "it's meant to be for Japanese fans!" do you think they would dub Cha-La-Head-Cha-La, We Gotta Power, Angel, and the first closing theme which I always forget the name of?

I mentioned it in another topic: the audio track in the Dragon Boxes is 448 kbps which is too much quality for that low quality track. 192kbps is more than enough. If the english track is encoded at 384kpps:
JAP: 448kbps = 79MB per episode
USA: 192 + 384kbps = 101MB per episode
Only additional 130MB for all 6 episodes...
But... How many episodes are they planning to encode in a disc? Six or seven? This would be the real problem...

7 episodes per disc. 42 episodes in total, means 6 discs all together.biohazard wrote:I mentioned it in another topic: the audio track in the Dragon Boxes is 448 kbps which is too much quality for that low quality track. 192kbps is more than enough. If the english track is encoded at 384kpps:

You mean they can't even digitally remove the dialog, re-record the tune, use a different version of the Head Cha-La instrumental, or find it on a CD somewhere? Amazing stuff. I'm sure it won't be that big of a deal to leave 'em in Japanese.kei17 wrote:Since the BGM of the next episode previews is lost, maybe they cannot make E / Jpn BGM version of them.email2003 wrote:Speaking of the English / Japanese BGM track, I'm guessing FUNimation has dub the episode previews now right?
The heck with Funimation then. I mean seriously, there was some great scenes with the faulconer music. Such as the scene were Goku has a vision with Vegeta telling Goku to defeat Freeza. In the Japanese score there was no music at all.
The scenes were Gohan is fighting the Cell Juniors that music awesome also. Where as the Japanese track had no music at all in that scenes.
Those are the scenes I'm going to miss the most. I'm not going to watch widescreen just for those scenes also. I will always watch the better quality version in an aspect ration its suppose to be seen. I will not buy into this hard core or true fan excuse either.
I will not support Funimation anymore (or at least I think). I don't care if it is the dragonbox, them not putting the extra audio on there when they easily could makes me think they are an incompetent company. Them stuffing 7 eps on a disc also makes me think they are retarded. And the quality will never match the Japanese Dragonbox , which was super expensive for a reason. There is no way in heck I think they will get this right.
I already bought enough of their VHS stuff. So for me, I will get the Japanese Dragonbox rips or dvds or something that has all the options that we are suppose to have. But I won't even buy it. I won't even support it. I spent enough money on dbz(I'm not exactly sure, but this is how I'm feeling right now). This is it. I had it with Funimation, that was the final straw for me that they decided to do it the cheap and easy way. Their a business that strives on making profit instead of releasing quality. No wonder why it is so cheap. They released so much stuff in the past , but yet they can't even get one thing right.
Hell, it's possible they could have made the discs dual sided so they could have more audio options. There are many options they could have took. But they always take the cheap and easy way out. The incompetent way. I really think in this generation of Dragonball its more about money than it is about the product now. I mean even Toei is screwing up Kai, or making it so you got to shell out a fortune for two different versions with two different aspect ratios, one is wide screen for DVD than the blu ray is full screen (Which by the way, they didn't bother to fix the stuff they censored for TV). It's more about money now. I'm just glad back then when Dragonball was made into a anime it wasn't really all about money and there is still one good release that was released in Japan only.

Wow. You sound like some Bizarro version of the last decade of a lot of our lives! Also, FUNimation seem to be using the term "purist" now in relation to who they're aiming this at. You can be a "true fan" or "hardcore fan" without being a purist.
But enough of that nonsense. Either you wanna buy it or you don't. S'not like we need to make factions out of this.

FUNimation can suck my purist ball if they want. I'm a hardcore fan who mostly prefers Shunsuke Kikuchi's score but switches over for shits and giggles every now and then, and they're going to tell me that the Dragon Box are only for "purists." That's just justification for flat-out isolating yet another portion of the fanbase with this release. Essentially saying, "you don't deserve this because you liked the orange bricks and gave us money for them."Kendamu wrote:Wow. It's this exact attitude that all the FUNimation loyalists had a problem with from the other side, and yet suddenly they're justified in feeling this way? To talk this way? To act out this way?Innagadadavida wrote:FUNimation can suck my purist ball if they want. What makes that OK? Isn't that just jumping down to our level? Don't you want to be the better man/woman?
If you've given them so much of the benefit of the doubt before, why not wait to hear what the full justification and decision process is/was, rather than going off of raw information from a tweet?Innagadadavida wrote:Essentially saying, "you don't deserve this because you liked the orange bricks and gave us money for them."

Well I guess it's a matter of point of view. You *may* see some of my complaints as petty and vice versa. It's not like it matters what I think anyway, I'm going to buy this set and support FUNimation for bringing over the Dragon Boxes. And after I give the orange bricks to my little brothers I'll probably forget about the Bruce Falconor score forever and ever. Hell I might forget about the FUNimation dub. I never watched the show on Toonami, I don't have any nostalgic connection to the Falconor score.VegettoEX wrote:It's this exact attitude that all the FUNimation loyalists had a problem with from the other side, and yet suddenly they're justified in feeling this way? Yeah you're right. The tweet may be wrong and I hadn't thought about that. It is a little different being on the other side of the fence about something. It gives me a little perspective and I might be able to rationalize similar arguments in the future.VegettoEX wrote:If you've given them so much of the benefit of the doubt before, why not wait to hear what the full justification and decision process is/was, rather than going off of raw information from a tweet?Innagadadavida wrote:Essentially saying, "you don't deserve this because you liked the orange bricks and gave us money for them."
