Remember CN would play shows in different language sometime back in the early 2000's, and a random episode of the Sayain Saga (I think it was when Goku on Sake Way) had the episode in Japanese. The music was different and I thought it was cool, I remember laughing at Goku's japanese voice though.

I honestly don't notice music much when I'm watching TV, so while I'm sure I heard it when I caught some episodes of Dragonball way back when, it never registered with me as different or better or anything compared to the Z music, which I also didn't really notice.

The first that I can remember, though, was watching a clip of Goku going Super Saiyan on Namek. Goku's hairball noises and the Godzilla music bomping on in the background pretty much put me off the JPN version forever.

I first heard the Japanese soundtrack on the Ocean dub Pioneer VHS release of Dead Zone. I was really impressed, and like some others here, came to associate it with the DBZ movies for a while. I also stumbled upon a commercial for Movie 13 featuring "We Gotta Power," and experienced a rush of nostalgia just a couple of years ago when I rediscovered it and realized that it was the second opening theme for the show.
Aside from the first three movies, I grew up with the Shuki Levy and Faulconer dubs, but I prefer the original score. The Levy material is rather generic and it's jarring to hear clips recycled from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. I actually give Faulconer a lot of credit for coming up with a large library of music for the series, and I think he had a few good standout cuts, but the fact that the music plays constantly with no breaks gets on my nerves. The Japanese score is simply the way the show was intended to be heard, and it is ultimately the best complement to the show, although I do wish that it had some more variety, as it recycles the same few pieces constantly.
I can see their parachutes.
