This may sound really odd to most of you but, one of the most emotional scenes for me in (original English dub) Dragon Ball is when Jeice raises his hand into the air and screams "Fireball!" Not really sure why but, I can watch that scene hundreds of times back to back and I get a chill up my spine every time.

5) Piccolo sacrificing himself to save Gohan in the fight with Nappa. So unexpected and so awesome.

4) Goku sacrificing himself to get Cell away from the Earth. The whole exchange between him and Gohan is just great.

3) Goku finding Krillin dead after the 22nd Budokai. Equally unexpected as Piccolo's sacrifice, but even more so as there was no known threat until it happened. This is also the first time one of the main characters died in the series, so it carries a lot of weight.

2) Vegeta's self-destruct attack against Majin Buu. The whole thing from the time he hugs Trunks up to him falling and shattering at the end. It's just amazing and it brings Vegeta's character right up to the end of his growth.

1) Gohan being found dead by Trunks in the puddle in the TV special. That was just amazingly done and one of the major reasons I take the TV special over the manga chapter in this case.

Piccolo sacrificing himself to save Gohan.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I cried like a baby at Hugh's--

Oh, Dragon Ball, I see.

Nothing really springs to mind, since DB just isn't that kinda series, but I do have to say that Piccolo's sacrifice was pretty darn dramatic...

After the fight with Cell is over.

Vegeta: Damn you Kakarrot... dying like that!

He doesn't flat out say he's sad that Goku's dead, or that he's going to miss him being around. He acts like he's ONLY disappointed that he'll never beat him now.
But it's easy to tell.

It's obviously Goku's reunion with his grandfather during baba's tournament. I'll admit I got a bit teary during this scene. What can I say I'm an emotional guy

When the two bastards killed Buu's puppy and shot Mr. Satan. The part with the puppy got me the most, as I can't stand to watch animals being tortured. :?
That has got be the most emotional scene for me, personally.

Speaking of the same arc, I'm not sure if the scene where Buu heals a little child's blindness is filler or not, but it was quite touching and innocent as well. It sure had emotion and was beautiful. :)

Oh I hate you for reminding me of something that I personally thought was so sad in the series :( . It doesn't include any main characters or anyhing, but it was when that blonde pony-tailed hair guy shot that old couple. I don't know why, but I genuinely thought that was really sad. First the woman is shot leading the man into a state of despair, then the man.
That was truly some good stuff.

Yeah, those two were a strange pair for Dragonball. It's perhaps the only time I can think of where something that evil is on that kind of ordinary human scale.

And yeah, the little blind boy is in the manga. Though Boo curing him was somewhat marred by the fact that he then gave him a glass of milk which used to be a man...

I'd completely forgotten about that tiny detail. That's a perfect example of Buu's innocence though - one of the reasons I love the fatty as a character that much. :)

I teared up a little at a few points of DB, but the point that always hits me is Goku arriving at the Tenkaichi Budoukai in the Buu arc, having been dead for years, and Goten meeting his father for the first time. I felt this great swell of happiness for Goku's friends and family. It helps that Goten looks like his father as a kid, because I remember that Goku lost his adoptive (grand)father at a young age, and...

Oh wait! Goku's reunion with his grandfather at the Baba tournament, too!

I guess more than the tragic moments, I prefer the very happy ones in DB/Z. Though there are moments that have both, like the end of GT.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

That's a great way to put it, knowing the history of these characters and seeing them go about their everyday lives just chilling is really quite something else.

I just remembered another one that I think takes my number 2 spot, and that's Goku telling Bulma and the others that Vegeta and Gohan are dead.
