Surprised by the news. Like some, I thought DisneyXD was going to be the one to possibly air Kai, but Nicktoons? it could work too.

I don't see Cartoon Network airing. They've basically stopped airing anime and the shows they do show are done in the wee hours on Saturday, not to mention Adult Swim kinda mock anime fans during segments

And didn't the head of Cartoon Network say something about his distaste for anime? I remember reading that...

I figured DisneyXD would air this alongside Naruto or something for a double-whammy of awesomeness. As for CN, it's not suprising...
Being a fan who's interested in watching Kai but not buying any of the upcoming releases, I think this is great, as I'll be able to watch my favorite voice cast do their thing. If the redub proves to be too accurate to ignore, though, I'm gonna have to purchase that first set in May.

I'm a bit surprised by the Nicktoons thing, but honestly, if the dub's accurate, I don't really care. I don't intend to watch it on TV anyway; I'd rather just collect the DVDs as they release.

It seems that in terms of edited vs. uncut, Kai itself is probably suitable for airing on TV with some very minor visual edits. The difference is going to come down to the dub, specifically how much swearing is included. If it's kind of like Yu Yu Hakusho on Cartoon Network years ago (heavily edited TV airing & edited DVD release contrasted against completely uncut DVD release with more swearing than even the original Japanese version had), then that's fine. I guess I just don't want the fact of a TV airing to harm the overall quality of the dub on DVD.

So are they going to edit stuff out to make it, you know for kids? I doubt they edit a lot of stuff though.

Dragon Ball Kai? Uncut and unedited?:
Reminds me of the good old DBZ VHS types back in the 90's and early 2000's. I remember buying uncut and edited types of DBZ. I would buy the edited types sometimes since they are cheaper.

Nelvana and FUNimation handle each other's cross-border distributions, while Corus owns Nelvana and Canadian liscencing of all things Nickelodeon (even making YTV nothing but a whore of Nick shows). There's so many arguments for one of Corus' stations airing it:

YTV: Home of all things DB in the past, current home of all things Nick in Canada.
Nick Canada: A digital-only Nick station
Teletoon: Home of all things Nelvana.

I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up on all three stations. It's perfect for Teletoon's Action Force and Superfan Friday blocks, perfect for YTV's Saturday anime and Nickelodeon Sunday blocks, while being a digi-Nick show means it's great for Nick Canada. In fact, being an older show would attract its fans to subscribe to Nick Canada (currently, Nick Canada is like 50% oldschool Nick cartoons).
Family (Astral) - Disney

Anyways, YTV can either air in FUNimation Dub or another dub by AB Groupe/Westwood Media. YTV had the Ocean cast for DBZ for ep. 1-67, 183-291 and the Blue Water cast for DB 1-153, DBGT 1-64.

I can't imagin why they'd need to do more censoring. It's already been censored for kids (no, not 4Kids), so there wouldn't really be any need for that.

He's assuming that YTV will have enough money to commission a separate dub using the Ocean cast. Which... they won't... or maybe he was saying that AB Groupe will do another English dub?
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". They'll presumably stick to the DBZKai FUNi dub instead. At that case, they'll also air the FUNi dub of DB/DBZ/DBGT in Canada.

Can depend on how they handle things. Know Disney XD censored eps of Jackie Chan, Batman and Superman that aired uncut on CN.

Now you have me wondering what they cut from those shows.

I've heard Batman gets cut depending on the timeslot, and know that any religious reference (even in jest by Darkseid) gets removed from Superman TAS. Didn't know they felt Jackie Chan Adventures was worth censoring though.

YTV could comission their own dub if they wanted to. They've used their sister company (Nelvana) for that very reason in the past. Most famous being Salior Moon's later seasons. Doesn't mean they will, or if it's a smart idea. Just that they'd be able to.

I hope they stream the uncut version if they're airing the edited one. I vastly prefer watching anime through Funimation's official online sites to having to DVR it on TV.

He's getting my hopes up for "8000", and yet, I can't help but feel we'll get stuck with the memey 9000 instead. >_<

The hopes are there though.

I'm glad its on TV at all. I periodically watch Nicktoons, so I think it might be a good fit for the show. Cartoon Network these days is... really random.

Episode where Jade is controlling ther Shadowkhan, they cut a scene where she sicced a bunch of them on the Enforcers to give them a spanking and next we see, they're kicking them in the butts with their pants on the ground with silly underwear exposed.

I fear this might mean 'darns' and 'hecks' in the uncut dub. :|
