Do you honestly think that Gohan was mature enough to decide what was important for him? I mean, we are speaking about a 4-9 year old.
Not by the time he's in high school we're not.

Eh, by the time of the High-school, he did everything he wanted to...

1) He wanted to be a scholar, and he became one
2) He wanted to participate in the tournament, and he was allowed
3) He wanted to date Videl, and he was allowed
4) He wanted to goof around as a superhero, and he was allowed

I don't get how people think that her decisions are bad.
She didn't make him become a scholar. He was reluctant to it only when he had to fight, because it was a necessity.
And of course she wanted him to study instead of fighting super monsters that could get him killed, and in most of the cases, he was almost killed.
Isn't that what a mother does? Loves her children, encourages education, and tries to keep them safe? My view is that she just cares for her sons. Sure, she doesn't let Gohan fight, but she damn sure knows that Goku is strong enough to fight alone. Especially since he has defeated enemies all by himself several times. And then they have Vegeta, Piccolo, Kuririn, Yamcha, Tenshinhan...the strongest fighters at Earth.
Sure, she has a bad attitude, but don't let that cloud your view on her.

I think mainly she reminds me too much of my own bitch of a mother.

Yeah, she reminds me of my own mother as well, and Chichi is a bit of a drag, but I agree with everything Godo said in his last post (which also cracked me up to read, incidentally). Poor woman get a bad rap. Granted, I think my opinion of her has certainly softened since I've been an adult as opposed to when I was, say, twelve.

Mind you, she also has non-Gohan related moments of bitchiness, such as 23rd Budokai (I'm angry and pissed at you but I'm not going to tell you why) or, hell, her very first appearance (I'm going to try and laser-fry and behead you the instant I see you before I even speak to you or find out who you are).

Eh, I'd pass that off more as reckless immaturity (something she'd grow out of) combined with romantic-induced illogical behavior (with Goku) and, "What the hell? There's a strange man accosting me right after I was scared to death from being chased by a dinosaur!" (with Yamucha)

I understand her in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. She was a 16 year old girl that had dreamed of meeting Goku once again and fulfill his promise of wedding her. But as she meets him again, he can't remember her at all. It's not that she thought that he had forgotten her, and that he promised her that he would buy her lunch, no. It was a freaking wedding we are speaking about here. And she didn't yet know that Goku misunderstood "marry" with some kind of food.
So the fault was in the end Goku's, which I think was emphasized.

In her first appearance, a friggin T-Rex just attacked her. She wasn't bitchy, she was almost scared to death. Her handling of Yamcha is therefore just natural. Hell, Bulma herself shot at Goku. Goku himself just attacked Kami without asking any questions either.

And if she reminds you of your own mother: Congratulations. You are one of the people that probably had a mother that cared about you and loved you.
Hell, the friends that I have that are fucked up are so because of that their parents let them do whatever they wanted to, and couldn't care less. They probably loved their children, but that wasn't parenting.
Hell, if it wasn't for Chichi, Gohan and Goten would grow up worse than Goku did when he was alone in the wilderness.
With Goku's laid back attitude and lack of being able to take responsibility, and Chichi's strict upbringing, they got a good balance, which is what I thought Toriyama was meaning to show.

Exactly.

Chichi doesn't tend to bother me because it's easy to understand why she feels like she does. She was bitched up a little for the Japanese anime and bitched up a whole lot in the dubs, and when you go to fandom land it just flies straight up into the stratosphere. People tend to only remember the most extreme examples, and thus they crazy up Chichi into something unbearable when she's just a woman who's been worn down by years of abandonment and worry about her child.

Oh yeah, and as for her intro she was a lost kid and terrified. And at the 23rd budokai, that was just normal passive-agressive behavior. It swings out of control sometimes.

Oh, yeah, good point. I'd be pissed too if someone said they were going to marry me and then became totally oblivious to that point. Oh, wait. That actually has happened to me...

Actually, she would've been 18 or 19, about the same age as Goku.

Wow. a least favourite character list centered around chi chi?
That's a first. usually people focus on the bigger, stupider picture, Broly.
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

I guess people realized that the only reason they hate Broly and took notice of his many failures as a villain was because of the explosion of annoying Broly fandom and it being persistently shoved in our faces whether we liked it or not. Me, personally, I used to be fine with Broly. I just took him as he was, without any hate in my mind. It all changed when aggressive fanboys across the internet started blathering on about Broly as if he was the best thing since sliced bread (and no, I'm not exaggerating, numerous fanboys started whining like 5-year-olds when Broly wasn't number 1 on a Top 10 DBZ Villains List on Youtube--thankfully, I stay away from the majority of the DBZ Youtube community), as well as the video games jumping on the Broly wankfest bandwagon and having Broly in the intros as a main villain, fighting characters that, by logic, should be able to obliterate him with one punch. Now, I hate the hyped-up bastard with an unyielding love for clotheslining and screaming "KAKARROT!!!" as a whole.

I am currently waiting for a game intro in which Broly will finally get the shit beaten out of him in a violent, bloody ambush of cute li'l hamsters.

Well, you could beat him with Saiyan arc characters in Attack of the Saiyans. I'm afraid that's as close as we'll ever get. :(

I Was totally pissed when he went SSJ3. I was totally hoping for SSJ Bardock. Why does he have to be in every game these days? :?

I don't know, because the Japanese producers actually like Broly? But seriously his inclusion in Attack of the Saiyans was just pushing it.

And yet we only get SS2 for Mirai Trunks in Budokai 2 and 3, probably as a mistake... :(

Or because some people are stupid enough to like him so they included him for them.

Well, yeah. It's basically giving the fans what they want.
