Yeah, I have a hard time believing this too. Like jjgp1112 said, there's no way the Ocean dub would be able to synch up with the original footage. There has to be some misinformation flying around. I'm wondering if he even saw the dub of this. He goes on at length about his opinions of the Ocean cast in general, but I don't think he ever specifically gives his opinion of the dub of this movie.

Just to make sure, I checked out the dub on YouTube, and what with so much rearranged, sped up, spliced in and altered footage, it would indeed be pretty impossible. There's no way Funi just threw the 1996 Ocean dub on there. Either that, or they have the uncut Japanese movie and the dub version as separate titles on the disc. That's the only other logical conclusion.

Oh, one other thing I forgot to point out from that article. It says that the dub spliced in footage of the TV series to pad it out. Now, it's been a while since I've watched this movie at all, but, unless I'm mistaken, that's not at all the case. In fact, it's the opposite. I remember distinctly that, when Bulma is trying to convince Goku to come along with her in the first episode, they spliced in footage of Goku fighting King Gurumes from the movie. Maybe they're thinking of the first dub of DBZ movie 3, where, in order to pad it out to three episodes, added in some early DB footage of Shenlong being summoned and recycled some shots of Kaio talking. Was there any TV footage that FUNimation added to this film?

They spliced in footage from Episode 2. It wasn't even as a flashback. They just inserted it in between two scenes to add to the story (although it wound up creating contradictions). And the dub for that particular scene was left exactly as it was in the actual episode 2. Bulma's voice is slightly different, etc.

Are you talking about the Goku in front of the television gag?

Almost the whole part where Goku is at Bulma's house is added in. The part where Goku thinks Bulma is a witch for producing a house from the Capsule, the TV gag, the scene where Goku walks in on Bulma in the shower, and then it sudddenly switches back to the movie. It's very awkward because the footage looks exactly the same as it does originally in episode 2: it's very jittery, the colors are different, and then it suddenly goes back to the higher-quality movie animation.

Okay, you're right, I remember that now! I always remembered that the dubbing was exactly the same as from episode 2. But at the time, I believed FUNimation's advertisement that Curse of the Blood Rubies was the "Full length pilot that started the adventure," so I thought that the DB and DBZ TV series were based off of that movie and assumed back then that the footage from episode 2 was reused from the movie! Oh, FUNimation and their constant lying...

Oh, wow, thanks. That was a great thread. As a kid, I always wondered why Bulma looked so unhappy in that parascope shot. As I got older and found out what preceding scene had been cut, I put two and two together, but it's nice to see it.

Death Note's Dub "so-so"? O_o Uh...

Anyway I find it hard to believe that FUNi will not be Re-Dubbing this Movie. If they have the money to have Chris Sabat and Sonny Strait Re-Dub their Season 3 Lines in the Orange Bricks, I find it impossible that they won't give this a Dub with their cast. Only time will tell I suppose.

Why?.. The Japanese releases were 16:9, it was animated in 4:3 but carefully for 16:9.
And by the sounds of it, it seems it's the start of the Dragon Box the Movies.

Damn! I was really hoping for Blood Rubies/Sleeping Princess and Mystical Adventure/Path to Power steelbook double features to go with the DBZ ones... :/

We have a release date and price: July 27th, $14.98.

EDIT: DB Season Five comes out at the same time, too.

Wow. I'm surprised it's so cheap. I mean I know Z sells better than DB. But still. First time Uncut release only 11 bucks? =/ Cool though.

Yeah, that seems a bit insulting, but, still, I can't complain about a good price!

I guess I'll wait and see what the video quality is. If this is a Dragon Box single, then I'll definitely pick it up. If it's English credits/title cards with no alternate angles... meh, not buying it.

It matches up with the rerelease of the Trunks and Bardock specials. I think in this age, FUNimation feels something so short should be cheaper.

Ocean dub? Really FUNi? My hopes for a good dub are thrown out the window and spat on.

P.S The Death Note dub is just so-so? My ass, that is one of the best Anime dubs ever and people still want to watch it subbed.

So does that mean you're not buying the GT and Dragon Ball sets because they have no alternate angles?

I've never seen Death Note (and have only read the first chapter of it), but I just want to say that even if it was the best dub ever, I'd still watch it subbed. I prefer to watch anything in its original language. So don't make people who watch the original Death Note out to be crazies, please.

Yes, that is what that means (and I also say that in my DBox 2 review, link below [/shamelessplug]). But don't you mean "because they DON'T have alternate angles"?

I'm just saying that if the dub is good enough, you should watch it dubbed unlike Dragon Ball Z.
