You can add another poster to the Aspie (Yes, diagnosed) ranks!
I'm frankly amazed.
Then I remember that Aspies are usually fantastic at communicating over the internet, and thus I would rightly have no way of knowing.
Dragon Ball has actually not been the target of the obsessive leanings, however.
Presuming it's well grounded, I'd want to see that book, Derek.

Just like
Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

I'm not really sure how you can self-diagnose yourself with Asperger's Syndrome... anyway, I've always had trouble with identifying myself as "this" or "that" under the autism spectrum because I was never given a clear space on it (though apparently I was tested for it several times). I have a friend who tries to institute camaraderie due to our similar difficulties in social situations/levels on the Autism spectrum, but I've never considered it as any reason why a group of people should come together. In my opinion, a common interest in Dragon Ball is a common interest in Dragon Ball, whether people are autistic or not.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
If I ever find her, then I'll let you know.
Thank you. That's marriage material right there.

The internet is much easier to communicate over due the fact that you can take the time to properly digest a comment and work out the proper way to respond.
I'm generally really quiet in real life... on the internet, it takes a lot to make me shut up!
I think the concept of self-diagnosing AS is strange... dealing with it, it feels like there can not be any emotion that be mistaken for it. I suppose these people who think they have it don't have the real thing to compare it to. That's not to say they don't have it... it just seems like a tough thing for a person to realize on their own.
EDIT: I didn't realize how much this had been necro-posted... so the thread will probably be locked soon, anyway.

I've done my best to make it well grounded. I have over 500 sources in the references section.
Go to
The Dao of Dragon Ball Blog and follow my updates and you'll know the second the book is available.

DerekPadula wrote:Are you or do you know a person with Asperger's Syndrome who has a focus on Dragon Ball?
People with Asperger's Syndrome tend to have difficulty in social interactions, but are extremely intelligent or focused on a particular niche in life. This can be things like geology, trains, cars, or a particular film, video game or anime.
I have heard of a girl in Los Angeles who is completely impossible to communicate with under normal circumstances, but when you mention Dragon Ball she faces your direction and begins to listen intently. Everything she wants to discuss has to do with Dragon Ball, and she can quote each episode with precision, along with cite off statistics and arbitrary facts, such as power levels and dates of birth.
And yes, the description I just provided may be applicable to many of us, but I'm specifically looking for people with a diagnosed syndrome. I would like to speak with them in more detail for research regarding The Dao of Dragon Ball book.
Thank you.
I have Aspergers but I am not particularly anti-social and get along with everyone despite if it's something new or meeting new people I'm a little shy at the beginning. I remember this small group of people with Aspergers at school that I used to think were wierd. They had it very badly- I remember one of my friends got into a fight in class because he took the Asperger guys chair he always sits on...
I do get obsessions and can talk crazily about them- I remember driving a friend nuts with talking about 'Lost'. But I do know how to control it mostly- and a lot of times people just want you to hear about their crap...which kinda annoyed me because they never listened to me so why should I listen to them?
I'm more a casual Dragonball fan nowadays despite during the last year and a bit buying more Dragonball stuff then I have since around 2004 or so which is where my obsession reached it's peak.
Not sure what I'm into now... Neon Genesis Evangelion probably.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.
