Same argument we make fairly often about the Kikuchi score theoretically having been kept in the show all along.
As we've all discussed and pretty much agreed on, most of these "it sucks" assessments aren't actual assessments at all -- it's a simple matter of "it's different, so I don't want it".

I don't mind her Gohan at all. Either one works for me. I don't like her 18 though. I just love the way Meredith did 18.

I was pretty ambivalent about it until the episode in which #18 is absorbed by Cell. I really thought she was phenomenal in that episode, and did pretty good during her final performances at the end of the series.
It's a shame that they ended it after Cell; I really would've liked to hear her as #18 for a while longer.

I would've really liked to hear her #18 in GT when she beats the crap out of #17 for killing Krillin. That would've been intense!
Getting back on topic, I love Clinkenbeard's Gohan, if only for the improved voice acting, which was something I felt was lacking severely in Nadolny, or really any other kid Gohan voice, for that matter. As a matter of fact, this role was what made me such a fan of Clinkenbeard's work.
