Yeah, definitely subbed from the uncut English dub.

Look. Ignoring Dragon Ball for a second, the word "freezer" is spelled in japanese as フリーザー. Keep in mind that spelling is derived from the english word "freezer". The Dragon Ball character is spelled as フリーザ. If you notice, the only difference is the lack of extended "a" sound to get across the "er" sound at the end. It STILL comes from freezer, that's why the correct romanization of that name (no matter how you go around trying to excuse it) is Freeza.

As far as Luffy, there's only one correct romanization as well. The romanization of LUFFY that comes from the japanese author himself.

Now can we please go back to how they fucked up this broadcast of Kai? I get the feeling there are plenty threads to discuss spellings lol

I just got to watch this shit and honestly, what the F was this?!

This was sort of funny but then it just got sad, disappointing and boring.

As if the limited replacement soundtrack wasn't bad enough adding God-awful subtitles (dubtitles) just made it worse, please, SIC Radical, don't broadcast it any more... :|

Please do broadcast more. Bad as the subs may be, they're still better than the old dub script, and getting to hear Japanese Dragon Ball on Portuguese TV is incredible to me. I'll still take it over the old dub any day. I kind of like being able to legitimately watch Japanese Dragon Ball without importing stuff from all over the world thank you very much.

I'm right there with ya as far as keeping up with the broadcast...but it's really disheartening to see such a poor translation again for Dragon Ball..

It's already bad enough that people want it dubbed with the same actores and bad jokes, I don't them going around saying T!en Shinhan and Shenron too. It's amazing to have it in japanese on tv...but it doesn't seem to be well recieved. A portuguese audience was/is not ready for uncut Dragon Ball in its original form.

The subtitles are pretty bad so whoever's watching it now on SIC Radical isn't going to have the best experience of Kai, then again, that was flushed away with Kikuchi's music introduction in Kai.

I think you're exaggerating how bad the Kikuchi placement is. It's not unwatchable by any means.

Fortunately or unfortunately, we've always had the show with the proper Kikuchi score so the re-arrangement of the tracks in Kai will feel awkward for most people. Even what they went with for the title card (empty in our broadcast) does not feel like it belongs there at all.

It's watchable but I can't torture myself hearing the same 5-10 BGMs being overused every episode, so I'm done with Kai unless it's Yamamoto's score.

I honestly don't know why Portugal didn't do their own dub like the other EU countries did and their dubs are actually better than before, so I'm sure if they'd done their own one it'd still be better than that crap PT dub from before.

Maybe they'll dub it after all, though, they might use the dubnames, like Tien Shinhan. :|

Oh, and for God's sake, keep Chichi's name Chichi not Kika.

Isn't that obvious? It wouldn't have anyone from the original dub, because there's no money for it. The rejection from the fans would be even worse than with the original version.

You should see our Bleach dub before saying that lol.

I've tried YouTube and there isn't any videos of the PT dub of Bleach, so I really don't know how bloody awful is the dub. :P

Moving on, watched episode 03 and the subs were really silly at times...

Image

^ There's no mention of Dragon Ball Kai during the start of the series.

Image

^ He's just Goku, not Son Goku, here.

Image

Image
^ These two confused me a bit regardless of having seen the show many times over the years, the names "Rei Kai" and "Rei Yemma" with the Japanese audio just make things out of place, imo.

By the way, anyone who's a fan of this Portuguese channel called "SIC Radical" care to elaborate why they've changed from a good looking logo to a biggy and pointless one?

I think they wanted to give a new look all around.

Today's subtitles were really bad, with a whole scene's subtitles having nothing to do with was being said and "K0rin" .

Also, doesn't the video image seem to be brighter than normal? It's noticeable during Ki attacks, but the opening looks a bit strange as well.

Oh well... It's really far from being perfect, but getting to watch Japanese Dragon Ball on Portuguese TV is great! I'd have totally applied to translate it but I have a feeling they'd insist on using the English scripts rather than a direct translation :|

By the way, is it being well received? How good are the ratings?

That's how Kai looks in general. It's kinda awkward, and the clash with the newly animated parts doesn't help at all.

Dunno about ratings, but the vocal majority wants the old cast to dub it again. People want everything else in japanese, but Dragon Ball...

I really do feel bad that you guys git gag dub instead of half-presentable one. But you have to admit that some of the lines the dubbing team came up with were rather funny.

That there's still 50 episodes left.

I knew it was something like that.

There used to be a video on youtube that had a whole bunch of lines from the dub, but apparently it got taken down.

Another one of my favorites would have to be: "Now be quiet while I sing Fado" -Goku.

Good Lord, the subtitles on Episode 03 are f-word atrocious!

Edit: Oh, one of those typos was based on the new Portuguese orthographic agreement, which was "Pára" to "Para" still doesn't make sense removing the accent from the letter A because without it, it just doesn't sound the same. :|

Seriously? That's just stupid, given our pronounciation vs Brazil's. I wouldn't be surprised if that was actually just a mistake. (A really bad one at that.)

There are still plenty with them. And how sad is it that I know where most of them are from? :?

No, Rukura, it's really unfortunate that it isn't another one of the many mistakes from the subtitles but from the new Portuguese orthographic agreement.
para- | pref.
3ª pess. sing. pres. ind. de parar
2ª pess. sing. imp. de parar

Sabia que? Pode consultar o significado de qualquer palavra abaixo com um duplo clique. Experimente!

para-
(forma do verbo parar)
pref.

So, the Portuguese language is pretty much getting screwed and with the removal of the accents it makes everything more confusing.

The accents gave the words the power of knowing what they meant and without them, it's just the same. *sigh*

Pára = Stop
Para = For

Damn the orthographic agreement and these crappy subtitles, well, dubtitles.
