Re: Am I the only one with thinks Battle of Gods isn't that
After re-thinking about if Super Saiyan was really needed or not, I concluded that it wasn't needed after all. Shenlong said that the evil Saiyans were superior to the good Saiyans in both numbers and power. He never mentioned Super Saiyan. And as for the light, during Goku's ritual, the golden aura of the Saiyans' turned into blue, and the Saiyans started glowing (along with Videl's belly), so maybe Shenlong was talking about that light? I guess so.
How so?TheGmGoken wrote:The light meant pure hearten.
Are you serious? The whole "Goku & Trunks aren't pure" was a gag.TheGmGoken wrote:But that makes a plot hole because Piccolo said Goku isn't pure cause he's an idiot who loves to fight and Trunks wanting to date at a young age.
Since Vegeta could participate in the ritual, it probably means that the Saiyans have to be good persons with pure motives. Vegeta was a good guy at that point, and his motives were pure (he wanted to protect his family, friends, and planet).TheGmGoken wrote:However Vegeta randomly becomes 100% pure cause he haven't done evil in long time and everyone argues about who's pure or not. There's a difference between Good and Pure. I think they did that for suspense and filler. Saiyan Super God had nothing to do with Super Saiyan IMO. The name was to attract people attention that's all. If I'm right the original SSG wasn't SSJ. But he was pure hearten and had 5 other pure people with him.
The Bojack Gang had some weird earing & necklaces that were glowing when they did some techniques from what I recall, so I would say that they gained power from those things.Saiga wrote:I do, actually. Especially Bojack, since Kaio has knowledge about him.
It was hinted that he did, both by the movie & Chozenshuu 1.TheMightyOzaru wrote:As much as you like t go on and say you know the story simply by watching it, you sure do have a lot of misconceptions. Freeza never worked for Beers.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
Re: Am I the only one with thinks Battle of Gods isn't that
Either way, it wouldn't make a big difference to me. Kaio should still know about their power, unless you mean they got their jewelry after they were released so their power was unknown. But there's still not enough to support that.DBZGTKOSDH wrote: The Bojack Gang had some weird earing & necklaces that were glowing when they did some techniques from what I recall, so I would say that they gained power from those things.

It seemed to me that Beers simply tolerated Freeza's acts. He never "hired" him.

When I first post the thread I said I can translate SOME of the things. I mistranslated something my mistake =/. Why would I be pissed that Freeza looks weak? How did you get that from my statement? From my mistranslated I said it ruined some of the episodes such as Vegeta dying and Goku filler moment when he saw the Saiyans. I guess the thing that annoys you is the fact that Beerus was intending to go kill Freeza at some point after he woke up, and would've done so easily- if it hadn't been for the fact that Freeza had already been killed.
It almost seems like a bit of a throw-away scene in the final film. I'm guessing it would've had a lot more relevance in some of the earlier scripts.Yeah, reminds me of this horrible, horrible review from a guy who claimed to have seen the film when he clearly hadn't.TheMightyOzaru wrote:As much as you like t go on and say you know the story simply by watching it, you sure do have a lot of misconceptions. Woops, mis-read your post.TheGmGoken wrote:From my mistranslated I said it ruined some of the episodes such as Vegeta dying and Goku filler moment when he saw the Saiyans. How you came to such a conclusion is a mystery
But in regards to Freeza, I honestly think his scene was there because it either had more relevance in the original script, or because it was done as fan-service and they wanted to include one of the most iconic villains in the series as a type of nod to the older fans. Yes, it does create some slight inconsistencies but to let it ruin whole scenes and TV specials is a tad over the top, don't you think? It all comes back to the dreaded "C-word", I guess and what your idea is of the canon story line.

Yea I wasn't being over the top. But it did ruin at least 2 or 3 of the moments in my opinion. Mostly Goku seeing Daddy bardock, Burger King Vegeta, and Wendy Girl Hairline Vegeta and Vegeta death.

I wouldn't say that Freeza was working for Beers, per say. More that he was doing his job for him. Freeza was destroying stuff for his own ends, and inadvertently was helping out Beers as well.

I could't translate the Birshu and Vegeta confronting each other and Vegeta's flashback so if possible(Anyone who saw the movie and translated it or know for sure what happen) can anyone tell me why Birshu was on Planet Vegeta in the first place?
Re: Am I the only one with thinks Battle of Gods isn't that
While I love BoG very much, I can understand why there are those who don't like it. This movie isn't really DBZ-ish though it's named DBZ. You know, it rather feels like the original manga. I don't recommend the movie to those who grew up only with the TV series and movies. Its Goku is so different from the typically heroic Goku in the old anime.

Goku behaved the same for me =/. What I didn't like was the same old routine they took. Goku get's taken out of action and sits on the sideline. This time he literally sat on the sideline. Then everyone loses and Goku comes back and either Got a power boast or will Get a power boast. Him keeping the power of SSG was not needed. He could have lost and work for the power like Piccolo and Vegeta did. Hell even Gohan(Before Elder Kai's power) worked for his power. It's like Goku got the worst case of Main Character Disease.kei17 wrote:While I love BoG very much, I can understand why there are those who don't like it. If that's the case then I feel bad for Kid Vegeta. Telling by his age he was either 1 year younger or just a few months younger then when he was when planet blew up. I said the BoG Goku was different because he doesn't really want/try to save the world. It's at least low in his priority list. He's not an "I won't forgive you!!"-type hero unlike him in old movies.TheGmGoken wrote:Goku behaved the same for me =/. What I didn't like was the same old routine they took. Canon is a subjective matter when it comes to this series. Alternate universes can make everything canon. Even Toriyama says he views them as such in the Daizenshuu 6.

Re: Am I the only one with thinks Battle of Gods isn't that
Bad points about BOG from the POV of someone who likes the movie yet hasn't actually watched it in its entirety:
-I get the impression this movie lacks the threatening tension I was hoping for; like there isn't that moment of complete and utter despair that isn't parlayed by a gag of some type (though I do like gags).
-Goku getting sidelined means he doesn't get to interact with the rest of the cast as much; that makes me sad. I adored his back-and-forths with Vegeta in the Jump 08 special; I wanted more of that.
-I also get the impression that we spend an inordinate amount of time in Capsule Corp's backyard; I do know there's lots of travel in the final Goku vs Beerus fight, and places like Kaio-sama's planet and Beerus' home appear. This like the first note is one where I can't really know for sure until I see it though.
-The residual leftovers from the earlier version of the script remaining there instead of being completely chucked make things weird, like that whole Beerus and King Vegeta scene which would've fit a lot better with Lizard!Beerus (Beta-Beerus?) character.
-Beerus ears being so crazy-long do look kinda bunny-like; if they weren't that exaggerated I don't think it would've confused so many people.
-Trunks/'Mai (Tru/Ma? Mai/Tru?) is kinda squicky imo because of Trunks being a little kid while Mai only looks like a little kid; I mean, nothing comes of it and it's Trunks who's starting it and Mai who's the embarrassed one, but....I dunno....if it were young adult Trunks with Mai turned back into a young adult I feel it wouldn't bother me.
-Ssjg Goku should've gotten a costume to go with his power-up (but then I guess if he did, I wouldn't have decided to go design one for the power-up after all, and I like the costume design I came up with for him a lot so that one kinda works out.)
-The secretly-pregnant Videl getting accidentally shot in the leg just so Dende can discover her secret is awkward; they probably could've had him surprise-discover her pregnancy in a non-injury-related way.
-That one screenshot of the Dragon Ball Men's Choir where everyone is supposed to look frightened, but at least 3 of them look like their either singing, or phoning their fear in.
I think that's about it. Again I can't really make a proper list until I see the movie though.
I can't bring myself to really dislike BOG though; it did give me adorable magenta-haired, big-red-saucer-eyed, svelte-looking Goku in that ssjg power-up (who the Pixiv art community has nicknamed "God-chan", no lie. I prefer calling him "Gokyun" though. :3 ) so it's difficult for me to knock the film too much.
