They flipped Inuyasha for no apparent reason. It's stupid, but they did it anyways. Damn you Viz...

The series is called Urusei Yatsura (Lum is the main character). VIZ still holds the license to that series, but stopped publishing the books ages ago (I think they only released 7 out of 34 volumes). As for Maison Ikkoku, they originally butchered it, skipping entire chapters and adding stupid shit like Godai having a DVD player in his room (in 1980...). They've now re-issued those volumes. And yes, both these series were flipped.

Either way, "Ms. Takahashi's works are flipped" isn't really an answer. Why are her works always flipped? It's bullshit, nothing more. And the only thing worse than their manga treatment of Ikkoku is their DVD treatment of the series. No lyric translations, hard-subbing, deleted credits...blah! VIZ really grinds my nerves!

People comparing Viz to early FUNI and Saban makes me want to vomit my intestines out and then strangle all those who speek such.

Erased lips and a name change do NOT equal 80's lingo and "THE NEXT DIMENSION!!!!"

Not to mention for all that lack of stuff, the high price that they want for only 12 episodes. :?

I really don't mind the censoring in the manga for these reasons.

First off, it's only reading, it tells people the basic story anyway, and since most new comers to the manga will be more in shock at the fact it's near enough exactly like the anime than the fact that some minor things are censored, who cares?

The fact that they(these fools at Viz) are messing about changing things in the first place is quite annoying for me to be honest, more annoying than the actual fact that things are being edited, I can picture some idiot sitting there on he's PC screen editing and when it's done thinking he's done something for the good of the earth or something. Wow, you made Popo's lips dissapear, the gun he had is now gone(not Popo's), the highly offensive name Mr. Satan that will make some people have a fit is named as Her-cule, ok, it's Her-cule in the dub too, no hard feelings there, I too new him by that name first.

Let's see what else, ok, I can't be bothered, but maybe if people some countries(like American and UK) didn't squeal like cunts when they see something they don't like, then maybe all the censorships wouldn't have happened, I'm sorry but people are always bloody moaning or complaining about something.

If it's not the war then it's petrol prices, if it's not Bush it's Blair, or street crime or poverty, or even soap operas because they say words like 'bitch', 'cow', 'slag' or show two girls kissing before 9pm, and if it ain't that it's silly little drawings in an 80's comic book series that childrens parents can't stand or tolerate so they write letters.

Shit boy, everyone's mum is turning into Kyle Brovloski's mum, look what that cow has started. I've had it with these people, and I would have thought in 2005 the law on things like this could at least get weakened or put aside, but in fact things now are worse.

Yeah, that sure does suck. Poor Ranma 1/2  Atleast Viz never flipped DB or DBZ though...

Now that I revise it...it's quite confusing yes.

I meant I don't really care much about the fact that people get cut material. I don't really but any manga, it's hard to find DBZ manga in England in a shop. One shop used to sell them, they lost the license though. I ended up with three individual paper backs and 2 Tankoubon.

The fact that these insolent people(Viz) have to edit out things that are silly is what makes me angry, well not really angry, it just makes you think, why? Incase they leave something in that some idiot will moan about and possibly try to sue(like everyone seems to be doing nowadays)? Then no more right and money for Viz.

Who the hell is this Kyle guy? :? Should I know?

I don't understand censorship. You put 18+ warnings on video games and websites...yet still underage people still cut each other's heads off and look up porn on the internet. It's all politics and money for these government shitheads...Don't they get that whatever they do, rules will be broken?

Though, I guess all rules are broken....:( We might have to get used to Viz becoming the bitch of dumbass parents. It's simple people, if you don't want your kids seeing Bulma half-naked or Piccolo Daimao shoving his arm through a guard's chest then don't let them read it, don't ruin it for us!

As it's been said on the board before; fat thick red lips were used as racial sterotyping of black people for many years, and Popo's lips are very much reminisces of it.

Just by looking up pictures of them, you can see a strong resemblance(and it's quite possible that they did influnce Toriyama while designing the character).

I'm not saying I agree with the censorship, just that it's understandable in this case.

Exactly, anytime a company is going to release something edited to cater to parents, they need to release an unedited version too for the real fans.

Oh, and Kyle Brovloski is one of the kids from South Park. His mom is against anything even the least bit offensive.

 I'm such an idiot! I forgot Kyle's last name...FUNi got the idea of 'edited' and 'uncut' versions, now if we could only get Viz to...Hell, even 4kids has begun releasing Uncut Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh! DVDs.

 Viz better have uncut DVDs of the Naruto dub...

I heard somewhere they will release them uncut and dual language, but only after they release edited dub-only DVDs.

Scroll down to the November 15th update. It seems Viz will be releasing the editied version on DVD, with a dual-language feature. :D It also looks like Kyle Herbert will be voicing someone. This should be interesting...

I think he's voicing Kiba. I can't wait for episdoe 20 or so. It's when a lot of my favorite characters either appear or do more than give one liners.

Thank you for explaining that better than I would have.

But I'm starting to find it funny that a bunch of people who don't seem to read the Manga are whining about it being censored. Can you guys try comparing the Dialogue, like I asked in the first post? This is getting really irritating.

I'm not talking about lips or swear words, but the integrity of the translations.

Duo there's an interesting thread that Julian(SaiyaJedi) made last year regarding his thoughts on Viz's translations and censorship that I think you would find interesting. It talks more about it from a language point of view than this one does.

... Wait. Hold on a minute. What are you talking about "those who don't read the manga"? When have we ever said we didn''t, aside from those who live in countries that can't get it? I used to read scanslations long ago (still cringe at how crappy they were..), have several volumes of DB and DBZ by Viz (when they were actually worth supporting..), etc.

I really want to know where you got the idea I haven't read it. o_o;; It's rather presumptive of you.

Which reminds me, I should probably get DB after I finish Sailor Moon...
