Re: African Americans and DBZ
I'm black and I love Dragon Ball Z. I've been a fan of the series for 14 years since I was 8 and in a matter fact I was introduced to dbz by another kid on my school bus back then who was also black as well.

Black guy from England here. I actually posted my photo in the Member Photo thread a couple of months ago: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=23607
As for black guys and DBZ, I can attest that it's somewhat of a similar thing here in the England in that you would you would struggle to find a black guy of a certain age, lets say late twenties, that hadn't watched it at some point growing up. I do think Dragon Ball for the most part just has a unique universal appeal that transcends race, but there are certain specific elements and characters, on a very surface level at least, that we're able to relate to in a certain specific way that only black folk can. I mean, who doesn't know someone like Vegeta or Piccolo?
And there's something about the whole Saiyan race story that I know some black fans are able to connect with simultaneously on a shallow and deep level.

I've been using the Majin Vegeta one for like five years.goku the krump dancer wrote:I've also been a bit curious as to what my fellow forum members look like, not that it really matters but i'm just curious. I mean I've been conversing with you guys about something I love for about four or five years now and I still havent the slightest idea on how some of you look save for a few who either have pictures of themselves as avatars on here or have actual pictures of themselves on different websites.
I think it'd be pretty fun if we all had images of ourselves as our avatar for about a month.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

Re: African Americans and DBZ
I guess FUNimation wanted to attract attention of specifically Africans in US by the changes they made to Dragon Ball GT, such as the music and some of its design slightly modified to tanned.
Here's an example:

I've honestly don't remember seeing Goku this tanned anywhere else on the original Dragon Ball GT series.

FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
