Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

- The most beloved villain is back.
- Even earthlings kick ass this time.
- Vegeta shares the spotlight with Goku.
- Both have new forms
Come on, Japan! Buy those tickets!
Broly's in this movie?
Why do you have to drag Broly into everything, fadeddreams5?
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
When were both Conan and DBZ released, respectively?

Usual Locations (43% of Market) - Sunday Admissions (As of 2PM)
74,036 - Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno (Toho) NEW
67,197 - Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F (Toei) NEW
Overall
DBZ - 221,049
Conan - 215,704
DBZ has sold almost exactly the same amount of tickets as of 2pm as it did yesterday and it was not expected to hold up as well today. There's still 10 more hours worth of sales to go but its doing great.
Conan is catching up though.
Edit: Usual Locations (43% of Market) - Sunday Admissions (As of 3PM)
89,173 - Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno (Toho) NEW
82,562 - Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F (Toei) NEW
Doesn't it cost something like $25 to go to a first run movie in Japan? I'm glad where I am the max is $13 for 1st run in an Atmos AVX theatre. Cheapest is Tuesday at $4.70 for a non-3D. It's a wonder anyone goes to the movies in Japan...
01 (--) ¥880 million ($7.4 million), Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F (Toei) NEW
02 (--) ¥860 million ($7.2 million), Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno (Toho) NEW
03 (--) ¥690 million ($5.8 million), Furious 7 (Toho-Towa) NEW
It's not clear yet which movie will be #1. The actual gross will be announced tommorow. From the estimate though it's opened about ¥200 million more than Battle of Gods did.
Damn. When I found out that Conan would be released in the same time than ROF, I just thought "We're f*cked".
Fast Furious 7 left me uneasy too. BOG had such easy weeks.
But, damn! I'm proud of my Dragon Ball. Holding so well.
Take the money, Toei, Take the money.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota
That's fantastic news. I really hope RF makes more money than BOG and it certainly seems like it may do that.

But the fact that there are still people reading the series after all this time… All I can say is; “thank you.” Really, that’s all.

And that you also have IMMENSELY skewed and comically backwards priorities in what you think is most important and needed to make a good Dragon Ball story.

I just hope it doesn't have a strong start and then have a sudden drop due to bad word of mouth from some fans or Golden Week ending.
That is what concerns me the most. Word-of-mouth is key for an anime movie as it is already part niche audience. Positive word-of-mouth and expect the film to hold steady for a few week. Negative word-of-mouth and the movie suffers at the box office almost immediately.

Another interesting thing to note from the article is that the budget for the movie was apparently $5,000,000.
