Doing a movie version of the Champa arc seems like a pretty easy decision to make. Not only will it allow to improve upon mistakes made on a hectic TV schedule but it will also allow for Toriyama to not stretch himself too thinly and potentially write his dialogue for the events. It could also mean better fight scenes, assuming good staff was brought on to make use of the higher number of allotted drawings.

But how many people would be willing to PAY to watch a story that just aired on tv months before? If the other way around is controversial already and tv is free...the box office would most definitely suffer compared to the two previous movies. Your mindset is one only a specific kind of fan would have or care about. I don't think that would be smart.

And judging by One Piece, Toei seems to have stopped doing movie remakes unless it's for tv specials. Maybe they realized that's smarter.

The events don't even have to be the same, either. Dragon Ball Super clearly has a different feel from their source material so I think it's a safe bet the same could be said for a potential adaption of the Champa arc as a film with dialogue actually written by Toriyama himself.

This isn't at all to say "it's going to happen, just you wait!" so much as it makes sense. Toriyama just wrote the Universe Six material and now he's potentially going to be asked to write another new story for a potential movie? If we push our luck any further Toriyama might just right out the window and be done with the franchise again.

I'll take anything I can get, it's a miracle Dragon Ball and Toriyama are back to begin with right? Though If they are future movies, I don't think they are going to take place in our Super timeline, meaning Toriyama didn't touch it. I'd love to see a "Dragon Ball Super" movie instead of "Dragon Ball Z". As in "Dragon Ball Super - Universe 6 The Return of Bardock" or something like that. As much as I'll take any new content on, I just hope it's fresh content, the anime, movies, and manga are like watching 3 different reboots happening at the same time as it. I think needing new material played a big part in why the Super Manga skipped ROF as well.

Yeah, but like i said, the logical reasoning behind the retellings and the different feel don't stop the people complaining about the "rehash". Even if the longer runtime on tv allows for fleshing out the plot, connecting the movies, etc. So remaking an arc that will just have aired would make fans run to theaters and pay for tickets to watch a condensed version right away? The idea honestly sounds too risky for the moment. If at least they wait a few years...

That's another reason why i think another movie won't be out before 2017, at least. But they could do like BoG, hiring a writer and just asking for Toriyama's inputs.

Naruto storm 4 was announced in December 2014 and will be released in February 2016 so Xenoverse 2 getting announced early with an early 2017 release date could happen as well.

This is precisely the kind of statement that LOTS of fans-with-audiences make up out of thin air and are retroactively able to apply it to whatever the next product happens to be (whether that be a dub, a game, etc.), regardless of whether they knew about it in the first place. I think back to some random comic site that was claiming a new series from Toriyama yeeeeeeeears back, and then said it turned into Dragon Ball SD when that started up. No. No, it didn't.

It's possible that he talked to some of the Funimation staff (since Funi seems keen on interacting with the fanbase, especially the most popular members within the community) and maybe he got some info regarding any future dubs of DB material, but that's probably all he knows, if anything at all.

AngryJoe isn't that well known as a Dragon Ball fan though is he? I know Funimation has reached out to Youtubers like Qaaman and Rhymestyle, but they are known primarily as Dragon Ball-tubers, Joe is mainly recognized as a game-tuber.
