Tenshinhan has been around for multiple time skips and he's always alone. It seems to be done for a reason. He's either gay or has no interest in women.

He doesn't look like he is 4. He looks like a chinese doll that is very small/short.

Chaozu's not modeled after a Chinese doll: he's modeled after a Jiangshi, a specific kind of Chinese vampire/undead spirit.







They're very, very, VERY commonplace throughout... wait for it, wait for it... wuxia fiction. And Chinese folklore in general obviously. And a TON of really cheesy (awesome) Chinese horror movies from the 80s.

For the record, he's never referred to or implied to actually BE a Jiangshi throughout DB, but that's definitively where his look/design comes directly from. They're in a lot of Asian genre fiction in general, but wuxia and horror in particular use these guys a whole bunch.

Also the whole "are Chaozu and Tenshinhan fucking?" debate is beyond anciently old, exhausted, and stupid as hell. Especially once you work real life sexual politics into things: then you're just working yourselves up into a lathered frenzy over absolutely nothing at all.

Interesting; if I remember rightly I read somewhere that the Earth's native population was split into different catogories; human(normal), animal and monster.

Tenshinhan is a Human-type earthling. While Chaozu isn't listed under anything in the Daizenshuu, he doesn't seem to fit the bill of other Monster-type earthlings like Mummy-kun and Pilaf. I suppose it could go either way with him.

Well, being more grown up nowadays and still joking about Chaotzu being weird gay midget with Tenshinhan, but I will be dead serious today.

I think that it's actually a little brother/older brother relationship. I have simmilar relationship with my little brother, who is 14 years my junior and is now 13 years old.
As he was born after my parents split up and dad wasn't much of a dad, showing up in half a year and my mother being sister ward in a hospital pavillion all day, I technically brought him up, being with him all the time
and as it made me sad, that I had childhood with my father and being single child at that time, - my complete family had lot of time for me, bringing me to zoo, visiting castles, museums and stuff -
I did these things with him instead.

Altough, I am 6 years now living apart from him with my girlfriend, we are still having something between brother/brother and child/parent relationship, as he likes me and is happy when I come to visit, which he doesn't experience with our dad
and we are still going on ''family'' trips, cinema and various stuff with my girlfriend/wife or he just visits me at my home for a weekend and we watch films and play videogames.

Various people were mistaking us for actual father and son as he was little and when they learned that we are actually brothers, they found it a little weird or rather, unusual.
I understand that from reading the manga a little. Why is being Tenshinhan so protective, as they were probably brought up under harsh training from Crane Master and without parents.

Now that Future Trunks is paired with Mai, all the adult male DBZ characters who could be paired up have been except Tenshinhan. Yamcha at least had Bulma at the start of the series, and Piccolo is asexual.

The thing is Launch had an obvious crush on Tenshinhan at the end of Dragonball, but since her character disappeared it went nowhere. Do you think Tenshinhan would have wound up with Launch had Toriyama remembered her character?

Or are Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu in an ambiguous gay relationship? Discuss.

I don't think Tenshinhan is the only male not paired up with a woman, there's another one : Yajirobe.

I haven't seen Yajirobe flirting with a girl in the whole series (DB, DBZ and DBGT).

A lot of shippers tend to be young people who have a huge misunderstanding of what constitutes friendships. Not all of them, obviously, but on too many occasions I've seen people completely misconstrue stuff for their own fantasies.

Because we've now seen Tenshinhan over the span of about 20 years...and he never was paired up with someone. If the Dragonball franchise didn't have such timeskips where the series goes on for 20+ years of time, obviously people wouldn't think about it much.

20 years and Tenshinhan never winds up with anyone. Wasn't he a teenager when we first saw him in Dragonball? And now he's 40+ something in Super.

So the conclusion you jumped to is that he and Chiaotzu are in a relationship, not that he's simply a loner? This is a manga from a guy who's admittedly averse to writing relationships and only ever does them when he needs one of the girls to pop out a new character. Krillin and 18 is the closest thing we get to a regular relationship. If the relationship doesn't occur on the show you're best off assuming it never happened at all unless you hear it straight from Toriyama. You're jumping to a lot of conclusions here.

I mean do we really know if Tenshinhan is alone? Is he featured in Super? We really don't know his relationship status when we see him in the Boo arc. For all we know, Lunch found him. or maybe he got with a girl who's not part of the DB cast. Does Yamcuha have someone? Certainly not from the DB cast. I mean what about Roshi? He's been alone since the moment we met him too -- and something tells me long before that.
