This is Goku we're talking about. I garuantee that Chi-Chi did all the work on their wedding night. It wouldn't suprise me if she had to bribe him with food to get him just to consummate the marriage as a matter of fact. >>

He got enaged to Chi Chi because he thought that marrige was some kind of food, after returning to ther Ox King, he ate all the food and left after the Red Ribbon army, I love how Chi Chi said: "Come back! Marrige isn't just about food!"

Looking at this reminds me of how DB stands out among other manga/anime series. It's one of the few where the main male protaganist and main female protaganist at the beginning of the series do not end up together.

Thats a good observation. I've thought of that before too, I also wondered how strong an offspring of Goku and Bulma would have been....

I know what you mean, when I first saw DB, I was like, Goku and Bulma are going to get together(yawn). Then I saw the end when he married Chi-Chi and I thought, Oh, that's a nice surprise!

Actually, I always saw Bulma as the "big sister" figure in Goku's life. Then again, I got into the series knowing Chi-Chi was Goku's wife so I probably but the Bulma-Goku relationship aside..

That's how I picked it up, in the first few volumes of Dragonball in my opinion you could tell it was like a goofy brother/sister situation. Infact they always came across to me like that, even at the tournament although Bulma makes a note at how hansome he has become, you just know nothings going to become of it as she is always going to see him as that goofy lil kid, and Goku just saw her as being Bulma. Infact he doesn't even seem that botherd about Chi Chi really at them early stages, poor guy got bullyed into it.

Aw man I hate it when people say Goku was bullied into marrying ChiChi. After Kuririn and Yamcha told Goku what getting married actually was he was shocked that he had promised that. Once ChiChi realized he had no idea what he had agreed to in the first place, she was sad and said something like "So you don't really want to get married do you?" But Goku still accepted to get married. He could've said no, but he still decided to go along with it!
