This is my opinion between DBS anime version and GT characters version:

GT Goku >>> DBS Goku
DBS Vegeta > GT Vegeta (Vegeta trains with others and has masters in DBS)
DBS Gohan > GT Gohan
GT Goten > DBS Goten
GT Trunks > DBS Trunks
GT Boo > DBS Boo
DBS Piccolo > GT Piccolo
GT Chi Chi >>> DBS Chi Chi

DBS Pan and Bra is too early to say if they are better or worse.

Now if your issue is that you want him as the Main character or something like that, then we'd be having a completely different conversation.

My issue is, I'm sick and tired of "Gohan has neglected his training!!!!" being used as a plot point to develop his character.
Subversion and character arc or not, this is tiresome and I have no interest in Gohan relearning something for the 2nd time, it makes Dragon Ball look like a bad Mexican soap.

I'm not someone who cares all that much about the fight scenes in Dragon Ball, so I really don't care about Gohan defeating cannon fodder in the ToP, I'm more interested in the character's journey as a whole. Right now, Gohan's is "I'm at my peak, transformed, and daddy told me Earth is safe in my hands, the torch has been passed, yay "
