Blu-Ray artwork added:
Now that the cover image is more detailed, I can now say that I actually like that picture of Goku. He looked a bit off-model in the DVD coverart that we got a little while ago, but that seems to have been fixed. Lovin' this new art we've been getting from FUNi lately. Seems we'll also be having the main villians be in the background of every release. Garlic Junior and Dr. Cochin look pretty good there.

So we got Garlic Jr. and Dr. Kochin in the background there. Neat.
Sold for the DVD version. If they're anywhere near as well-done as the Bardock/Trunks 2-pack, I won't mind at all owning extra copies of the movies. Especially well-dubbed ones like Dead Zone and World's Strongest.

Assuming one of these releases will have three movies instead of two ('cuz of there being 13 episodes) how do you think they'll handle that cover?
They could lump all three Broly movies together, like before, but I'd rather they stick to releasing the movies in order. If the three movie release will be for the final three, though, then I could see them cutting out Bio Broly in favor for more room for Janemba and Hildegarn. Then again, they could just split up the background three ways instead of two and just make sure whoever's in the foreground doesn't block anyone in the back.

Damn, I'll own 2 versions of Dead Zone when I buy this. This reminds me of how I had three releases of the first 3 episodes - one was when I bought the UUC when it first came out, one is from when I bought Wrath Of The Dragon and the first UUC DVD came with it, and then the Season set. I decided to get the sledgehammer from my basement and go in Triple H mode on one of the Ultimate Uncut DVDs.

Well that's pretty cool. I like how they're releasing all of the movies cosistantly as tin-cased double feratures, for some reason I wasen't expecting that. However, only movies 5, 7, and 8 to go and I'll have them all on full screen single disc, so I won't be getting any of these new ones (thankfully). I guess I'm still going to pick up the Trunks/Bardock one, but I haven't yet. I'm also working really hard on having the entire television series on the singles by the end of the year, so still no season sets for me.
However, now that the format war has ended, I'll definately eventually have Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray. So maybe I will end up getting the Blu-Ray version of Dead Zone/The World's Strongest at some point in the coming years.

Let's assume, as many already have, that the final season box will be released in September 2009. I am thoroughly prepared to be raped by the October 2009 announcement that they have acquired the DragonBox footage and will be releasing the season sets on Blu-Ray using that video option. I know it's unlikely that they'd ever release any DBZ material in full screen into the future, but after everything that has happened to the poor series in America, would it really surprise anyone? I bet that they will do five seasons, with season three being the tallest. That way, Funimation's Blu-Ray sets can actually flip fans the finger on behalf of the company in our own living rooms.
In fairness to Funimation, I should note that their tin-cased movies are actually showing some promise in terms of the cool artwork they are using. It shows some effort if nothing else.

Does anyone think that the "Plan to Destroy the Saiya-jin" footage will be with Movie 13?
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

You never know. One day, I'm popping in the Season 8 Disc 6 and go to a trailer for the final movie double feature, and they say "Includes the never before seen Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans!".

That is the only instance in Dragonball where I wouldn't care (infact I welcome it!) if Funimation threw out the original script and made their own from scratch, because you can only really go up once you've hit rock bottom.
Up or sideways.

Did Plan To Eradicate the Saiyans suck or something?

It really, truly did.
There was some nice animation, but between the story (or lack thereof) and the music that sounds like bad techno played backwards, it really wasn't very enjoyable.

Damn, I always wanted to see that dubbed. Too bad it sucked .

I would love to see it dubbed, at the very least there would be some better music..Maybe.
I kinda hate Menza.
Anyway, I wont be picking up these double features on dvd, but I will possibly nab them on Blu Ray at some time in the future.

I actually watched a couple of clips on YouTube. The music is awful. Just lame J-Pop crap and the farthest thing from what I was expectin from the Japanese dub.

Finally, we know FUNimation's inspiration for their musical scores for DBZ ;p

The only thing I REALLY want it a box to be released afterward.
You know, to put all your Season boxsets and Double Feature DVD's in?
So you'd have 2 really huge complete boxsets.

I'ma go ahead and ask, what's the name of the Season font? I swear I've had it downloaded before...

Didn't I already say that?
I actually liked it, despite the fact that it made absolutely NO sense.
Kirbopher wrote:SSj Kaboom wrote:Kirbopher wrote:Question, how many boxsets did you guys think we'd end up going through before we reach the end of the series?
Based on the spine image, I think the estimate was nine, and it's looking like it will be that way by episode count, too.
So my assumption is 6 will have either Mr. Satan or Gohan, 7 will have Videl or Gohan, 8 will have either Gotenks or Buu, and 9 will have Vegetto or Buu.
Since we have Vegeta on the Vegeta Saga, Freeza on the Freeza saga, Trunks with the Trunks Saga, Cell on the first main Cell Sagas, and then we should have Gohan, maybe Super Saiyajin 2 or something for the Cell Games and Other World Tournament Season set. Season 7 should have Babidi, since due to the average length of the Season sets, it's more likely to have over 30 episodes rather than just over 20.
Season 8 would probably have Gotenks and Season 9 would definitly have Kid Buu.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.
