I could have sworn "Fuck" was used numerous times in the first couple minutes of Vice City.

No, I thought that too, but I just checked the gamescript on Gamefaqs, and "fuck" doesn't appear once. So unless the dialogue was slightly different for the European/Canadian/US releases, it's not said.

Y'know, Vice City is a great example of how fucked up American censorship is. We can have people saying "shit". We can have lots and lots of murders. We can have people getting decapitated. We can have lap dancing clubs. But god forbid any of the girls in those clubs are topless. And god forbid anyone says "fuck".

Seriously, strip clubs where women wear bikinis? Bizaire.

That's probably because in the States that word is pretty much treated as the worst word ever. If PG-13 rated movies include it, it can only be used once and can't be combined with "mother" as Alien Vs Predator showed.

It's the second "worst word ever" (or third, if you count "motherfucker".) "Cunt" still beats it, since even the South Park movie was afraid to use that one (although they did sneak it in, appropriatly enough during the DBZ homage at the end).

And it's still crazy that a society considers a single word more damaging to children than having them watch decaptiations.

That's because "decapitate" isn't a swear word in North America, so who cares if you actually see it happen? :P

Concerning AVP, motherfucker was said as a toss up to what Arnie called the Predator "You are one ugly motherfucker...". PG-13 movies usually contain the word fuck here and there. Motherfucker isn't an exception just because you're doing it to a mom. :P

Cunt is the big taboo word. It's used in R movies only and even then just to get the point across that the person's 00ber pissed.

This guy I used to know yelled the word cunt in Peer Court once. Actually, he called one of the jurors a cunt because she asked if he was gay. It wound up getting him the maximum sentence.

WTF?! What the hell does his sexuality have to do with anything? And why was a juror saying ANYTHING? Stupid American justice system.

From his mentioning Peer Court, I'm assuming that is a school court system.

They have practice courts in US schools? What, did someone look around at your country and think "Y'know, the one thing this place needs is more lawyers"?

(Never mind the brilliance of a practice court where some people should out "are you gay?" and others call them a "cunt" back.)
Dayspring wrote:Motherfucker isn't an exception just because you're doing it to a mom. :P
Actually, it is. Seriously. Look up censorship laws for different countries and you'll find that "motherfucker" is counted as a more offensive word than just "fuck" on it's own.

Plus, there's that crazy American thing now where certain words are okay if used as verbs ("Fuck off"), but they're not okay if they are used as nouns ("You little fuck"). Mad.

None of my schools had anything like that. I'm just assuming that. You know you're right Liam that saying "MF" is considered to be a pretty bad word. So although I liked Alien Vs. Predator, I knew that a PG-13 rating meant that they could not say the trademark Predator line.

It was a community thing for minors. He leaned out a car window and smacked a guy riding his bike on the ass. He said "I swear if anyone asks me if I'm gay I'm gonna flip." So when the jurors got to ask questions the inevitable happened and he yelled cunt in a courtroom.

Anyway. Back on topic. "Bra" is not offensive at all, as it is said all the time on American TV.

It's not so much "bra", as what's contained inside them. Or something.

I wonder if they'd have changed her name if it was "Panties"?

But...IT WAS said in AVP... The exact same line. As a toss up to the Predator movie. :P

Bra isn't offensive. Though someone with the name "Bra" pretty much lends herself as fodder for giggling kids and semi-perverted teens who like to make dirty jokes.

True. Although I can't imagine a kid called "Rice" will get away without the odd bit of teasing.

My last name is Rice. I've gotten off pretty lightly on the teasing.

Let's see, more "appropriate" alternatives for Bra....how about Thong? Hey, they could be referring to footwear :P Or maybe Bikini. Or they could have gone with things related to bras....Lace, Strap, Wire, Hook, Padding. She tottally should have been called Padding Briefs :P

If Trunks fell in love with one of the girls from Harry Potter (OLDER than they are in the books), which one would it be? I need to know for my immense cross-over fanfic (by immense, I don't mean it's length, I mean the number of series/movies/books that come into play).

But, on-topic, I think there is only one person in DB worthy of character bashing: Goten. He was an idiot when he was a kid and just sat on his ass through all of GT (okay, so he did fight Omega Shenron, but he still sucked).

Originally, I'd have said two: Goten and Hercule. I hated Hercule at first because he was a "shameless fake" who got away with fame and fortune while Goku and Gohan got jack shit, but when they actually gave him some CHARACTER in the Buu Saga, I started to like him.
