Here's the intro. Sorry, I'm having huge problems with my ripper and that was the best I could do. It went from freezing while ripping, not ripping at all, or synching issues. I can't rip any other scenes, sorry.

However, here are 192kbps MP3s of the intro and closings:

I can't claim to have seen much of it, but outside of the final episode in which a few more things than usual were changed, the dub was pretty solid. They were just coming off the well-dubbed Boo Saga, so the scripts are above average for FUNi DragonBall, from the episodes I've seen.

Now, instead of the majority of the scripts being rewrites, there's just the odd line changed here and there. Again, I've seen very few episodes of the GT dub, but if they're any indication of what the whole series is like, then I'd say it's pretty good.

OMG. They actually have translated Japanese credits in the English opening. Even though this is from the original 2 GT singles they didn't forget the Japanese staff for once.

The English version of "Hitori Janai" sounds rather dull and strange. On the other hand, "Dan Dan" with Vic sounds awesome. "Don't You See" sounds fairly good too.

That's exactly what I was gonna say. Now let's see if they do the ED credits right.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Sounds like they made their own karaoke. But it doesn't deviate far at all. Me gusto!

edit- given the incredible amount of damage I spied simply from the opening, I'm gonna guess that these weren't remastered at all. Just recycled from their singles.

Not my cup of tea, but kudos to FUNi for a.) not fucking with the aspect ratio and b.) dubbing the intro. It shows a decent amount of effort and I'm glad the GT rap is gone forever (hopefully).

My one nitpick, aside from the previews being gone and the Japanese title cards (alternate angles don't kill bitrate, try different argument plz): Did they have to put in their GT logo? I mean, really? Before it might have made sense with the whole "LAWL WE KICKIN IT HARDCORE GANGSTA STYLE BUS' A CAP MOFO!" thing, but now it seems strangely out of place (and badly digitally blended, unless that's YouTube).

Still, cheap set. I'll pick it up to steal the subtitles once it hits $20 or so at my local shops ;p

Corey, it could be worse. It could be the 90's Speed Racer rerun opening (in which you could SEE the original Japanese credits when the English ones flew out of the tire)

Well I want to see what the title cards looked like for the dub. I never watched GT past the 2nd episode so I don't know if Funi's dub titles are any good in comparison.

100% agreed. I think it might be a leftover from the first couple of FUNimation singles sets, since you could get the translated intro credits through switching the "angle" function on the DVD, but I kind of doubt that and I'm really clutching at straws here. It's really an unnecessary change, and is one of the few things that detract from this being the ultimate GT release.

Still, I'm far from deterred--this is absolutely fantastic! I think this is the first time I have been legitimately excited about a FUNimation release. I'm only sad about how long it'll take for the other seasons to come out. :(

Ha, I don't remember that. Then again, it's been ages since I watched Speed Racer.

On the upswing, I guess the re-inclusion of Dan Dan means we do know GT after all, yse? ;p

I'm in shock. Dan Dan is my favorite music from DragonBall, and it sounds good! Changing the logo is retarded, but a small annoyance.

Well holy fuck, At first I thought Max was bullshiting because he wouldn't put any of the dub openings up, then I heard from Gozar and believed it and then I was curious to see what it sounded like, and I must say funi did an amazing job on these. Now as long as they include the GT special in season 2, the release will be almost flawless for me. Yes I am pissed off that there is not much concistency between these and and (in terms of ratio and music) and I will always have bitter thoughts of how funi shit all over Z by cropping the release, and then polish it's older brother to near perfection, but the positives definatley out-weigh the negatives, and now I will get some piece in knowing that not all of my collection was cropped (even though I have come to see past that). I am still in total shock that funi actually dubbed the openings and endings and may "Step into the grand tour" rot in hell for all of eternity.

English versions of Dan Dan, Hitori Janai, and Don't You See?!

*fanboy spasm*

I was going to pick them up before, but now...well, I'm shaking with enthusiasm! If not for just those songs! (That, and I haven't fully seen the first half of GT.)

Also, *puts up flame-shield* am I the only one who doesn't mind the widescreen? I mean, I know its tampering with the footage and all, but when I watched Z season 3, it didn't ruin my viewing of it at all. I'm just the kind of person who likes the widescreen for that "movie" feel.

If any of you have ever watched Disney's "The Incredibles" in widescreen, just be glad it isn't like that. I saw it on NBC last week, and there was a good 3-4 inches cut off of the top and bottom.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to picking this up.

Apparently you're not the only one, since the sets have sold well. Personally, I love widescreen presentations...when framed for widescreen. Like the new Jump special, for instance. Or a number of newer animes that were composed for widescreen presentation.

Err, The Incredibles was a widescreen film. Unless NBC was showing a 4:3 copy and cropping it, in which case...well, it's be retarded and it'd be exactly the same as DragonBall Z being cropped (with the good 3-4 inches or 20% of the picture being lost...only then, it'd be a cropped Pan and Scan which means you'd lose about 40% or so of the picture) ;p

-Corey

Edit: Yes, 20% of the picture being list. A fucking retard is me.

I dont tend to mind the widescreen as much anymore, I just find it to be a very fucking stupid move one funimations be half. When I realized this was my only way to own all of DBZ with all 3 audio tracks I was fuming, but I handed over my 40 bucks for all the sets and learned to put up with it.

A lot of networks, (well just Spike and FX are the only ones I can think of), do that now when they show movies. I.E. Star Wars and Fantastic Four are shown in their Pan and Scan versions and they are also cropped.

This is Funimation's most bi-polar release yet.

Good Funimation:

-Dubbing Dan Dan

-Actually noting the existence
of the Japanese creators in the
opening credits

-4:3

-Eyecatchers

Evil Funimation:

-Replacing the logo

-No alternate angles

I'm guessing they have the same electric guitar crap for the menus as well?

Does anyone with the set know if the back of the set says TV-PG or TV-14? I know Z was TV-PG, but I was wondering since Wal-Mart's website had TV-14 as the rating for the GT sets.
