I'm not quite sure what to think of that; if what Jappo's telling us is true, then Goku's not very smart.
Well how could he be in high school without any education?

I reckon Chatku has been scraping through his classes all these years: he isn't dumb, but certaintly isn't doing well.

So long as the film is entertaining I'll be pleased, and seeing ki mentioned right away was pretty cool in my opinion.
I agree. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. The people that really don't like are the same ones that are gonna hate the movie no matter what so there really is no pleasing them.

He probably really doesn't give a shit about school.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

People say this as if what we're hearing is drastically different from what everyone's already known.

Yes, if I hated the concept of Goku being in highschool and raised by Gohan a year ago, I'll probably hate the elaboration of that idea a year later.

Like I've said before; If I wanted to watch a story that wasn't Dragonball, I'd go see a movie that wasn't Dragonball.

Someone complaining about not having friends while sparring with his grandfather, weaving through traffic on a scooter, getting bullied, daydreaming about a girl in the middle of class...

I don't see Dragonball. Thus, I maintain my position of disliking it.

He is pretty much a loser - no friends, failing school.....

All he cares about is fighting with old men.

Yeah and you and plenty of other people are going to maintain that position for a very long time, if not forever. At this point there really IS no pleasing you. Whenever there is news about this movie we can always count on at least you to come in and kick the living shit out of it!

Well thankfully he'll be going on a world wide adventure that will develop him into a more "cool" guy! :?

High school was average. There's still peer pressure, but it's nowhere near as intense as middle was.

(College is still way better than them both. :3 )

Oh! Speaking of high school and Dragon Ball, in my TV class at high school, there was a group of guys who tried to make their own live action dbz at one point (just the fighting part though; no costumes).

I wonder what they'd think of a real live action DB.

Can we please not start this? This thread has a lot of potential.

Goku doesn't seem to be reacting much differently than I'd suspect he would in high school. Like Gohan, minus the smarts. They seem to be focusing a bit less on his innocence and goofiness, and a bit more on his Saiyan side with his itching to fight.

As for how he's in school, there's special classes and stuff. I don't know how they're going to explain it, but I suppose they don't really need to.

Fair enough. I never said anybody was wrong though. There really is a lot wrong with the movie but they did at least get SOME stuff right.

Middle was just a really strange time in general (The teachers randomly separate everyone into two "houses" based on no actual criteria, and they separated me from all my friends from elementary school, so I technically had to start from scratch all over again because being in a separate house meant there was no chance I'd have ANY shared classes with them or shared lunch periods. Also most of the teachers were really lousy at their jobs.); it obviously varies from person to person though. ^^;

I totally lost contact with them after that (remember this was before everyone and their grandma had a cellphone).

I mean, I made new friends, but still....I think if it weren't for those "houses" that I might still be friends with my original group today.

Script Chatku so depresses me; for some reason I feel alright with Gohan Sr. and partly with Chi-Chi though.

It really depends on what you're expecting. The plot and characters certainly seems different, but how would you describe the original story of Dragon Ball?

I'd say it's about a boy with a mysterious origin, skilled at fighting and possessing special powers, who sets out with a girl to collect 7 orbs that summon a dragon that can grant you any wish. As different as it is, the movie has all of those elements.

Of course, the story itself might not be what makes it Dragon Ball to you, and understandably this type of plot and these characters might just not appeal to you. That's fine, I don't know if I'll like it till I see it myself. But if you ask me, story wise, it is Dragon Ball (using a writer's point of view that story and plot are not the same thing, that is).

I say keep it to one topic, and change the thread's title accordingly.

In that case, it depends on how vaguely you can interpret the story while still enjoying it. It's not up to snuff for me. Awesome that it is for you! I'll shut up so JAPPO can post more.
