Yes, yes it is.

Observe PS2:

They clearly didn't put too much effort in this game. But I might get it anyway just for the lulz.

How can you tell thats a video of the PSP version? Wouldn't the video be in widescreen since the PSP is in widescreen? I looked up Tekken 5 PSP on youtube and got this review.

Looks nothing like the video you posted.
Hm, that does look more like what I'd expect from the PSP. Still pretty good by PSP standards though.
I stand corrected. The link I posted is indeed the ported version.

This is the last time I'll be watching video's in my lowest brightness setting.

"Funny!"

Two minutes ago, I called Atari (Germany) about the DBE game. Whether they will be publish the game over here and when the release date will be. They had NO IDEA about the game. So, it's up to Namco Bandia I guess.

Don't worry about it. I even looked up the game on Wikipedia and thought you were right about it being on the PSP. I didn't realize there was a PS3 version.

Definitely going to steer clear of this game.

Does anyone know where I can preorder the Japanese version of the game (Play Asia won't ship it to Europe) ? I'd like to review it as soon as possible.

Not that I'd expect it, but it'd be interesting to see the original manga outfits as alternate costumes. They kinda did this in X-Men: Mutant Academy, except it was more the other way around: the game wasn't based on the movie, but they had the movie costumes as alternates.

That's what I've been saying all along. Shin Budokai's gameplay with Evolution's characters.

Though I wonder if the martial arts styles used in the actual film
will be carried over to the game. Goku, for example, fights in a capoeira-like style, with a lot of flips, spins, and kicks. Chi-Chi uses some sort of Muay Thai, Gohan and Roshi use old Chinese styles, and so on... Probably shouldn't expect anything to intricate.

Anyway, that screencap you posted looks gorgeous. Love the shapes and textures on Goku, and the backgrounds look very nice, too.

Really? Look at Roshi's fingers and where the orange of Goku's gi meets the black.

I know. It's still just a PSP game. That looks really good for a 4-year-old handheld system's graphics.

At this point, my favorite part about this movie is the quips that slip in with "news"...
Joystiq wrote:We salute you, PSP. Much like a brave (or fatally clumsy) soldier collapsing on a grenade before shrapnel pierces the entire squad's fleshy bits, Sony's portable platform has kept the latest licensed game all to itself. Based on the upcoming Dragonball: Evolution, which critics are optimistically calling "a film," this online-capable fighter comes to us courtesy of Namco Bandai.
Kotaku wrote:The good news is that the PSP-bound video game based on Dragonball Evolution looks yards better than the game based on Street Fighter: The Movie.

The bad news? There's nary a hideously bright costume or outrageously bad spiked hairstyle to be seen in new Dragonball Evolution screens. There are just men in khakis and women in sensible shoes. But it has Dragonball in the title and it will likely sell in the tens of thousands.

Set expectations to "Movie based video game."
Heh..Heh..
Khakis...

"Son Goku?" Is that in the movie then, or is it because this is a Japanese screen?

Plenty of games nowadays don't have those problems, even ones on the PSP.

They're only a 'problem' if you play a game for graphics and not game play. :P

Probably won't be playing this one.... partly because I don't have a PSP, and this doesn't look like it's groundbreaking enough to buy one. Not that I mean it will suck.... just doesn't look like it warrants buying an expensive handheld gaming system, when I'm happy with my DS.

Yeah, but when the graphics are horrible, what makes you think the gameplay will have any more effort put into it?

I wouldn't go as far as saying they're horrible. I've played supposed 'next gen' games that have these sorts of problems. And it is only on the PSP, as we've established.

Because going by the screenshots, said effort has already gone into developing the Shin Budokai games.

I also just noticed most of the ads and info are saying it'll have ONLINE play... is that true? Is that possible, much less ideal, for a handheld fighter?

I meant in general, not this game specifically.
