If I am not mistaken wasn't "Weaver" only on set for like 3 days. That means he is probably in the movie for like 5 minutes tops. And by best friend, he might just be some kid who is friendly to Goku, and then bye bye Sequel time here comes Krillin WABAAM.

Ok, Maybe not, but I am pretty sure Weaver's role will be insignificant.
Yeah, Weaver's a one off side character who's friends with Goku and that's about it. He's just there for some minor early plot elements and then he gets ignored. IIRC, they weren't even sure if he'd be included in the sequel at all when information first started to come out.
A while back they said that Weaver's role would impact the sequel.
I've never, ever, seen anything even remotely resembling that mentioned. I saw them say they weren't sure if he'd even be in the sequel. And I saw the actor say he hopes he gets a slightly big role in the sequel. But that's it.
Also, it isn't so much that the pictures alone are putting me off. It's the matter of how incredibly different this movie is from Dragon Ball. The target audience is supposed to be those who are fans of the series and barely anything in this mess resembles Dragon Ball in the slightest bit.

There's far too many story changes and character screw ups that make this thing seem exactly like movies based off of video games.
"Incredibly different from Dragon Ball"?

"Too many story changes and character screw ups"?

The hell?

Good natured food loving (Saiya-jin) boy goes on a hunt with super intelligent genious girl for ancient balls that can call a magic dragon. Meets a desert bandit and a martial arts master along the way and ends up saving the world from Piccolo.

Yeah, that sounds absolutely nothing like Dragon Ball.

Based on everything I've seen/heard about the characters Goku is still Goku, Roshi is still Roshi, Bulma is still Bulma, Yamcha is still Yamcha, Chi-Chi is still Chi-Chi, and Piccolo is still Piccolo. We've got 2 base changes to the characters. One is Goku being enrolled at a school (which could go any number of ways, many of which do nothing to change Goku's personality but would, in fact, underscore that he's not just a normal everyday teenager) and the other being that Piccolo was 'originally good and got imprisoned for an 'arguement''. We don't know what this argument was, we don't know who or what he was before being imprisoned, etc.

So, really, all we know about Piccolo is a dumbed version of what we already knew from the manga. Piccolo was once good (it's not like the son of Katats was always full evil, you know) and then got sealed away. The 'arguement' could be anything until we're told what it is. And hell, they've even got Mutaito involved in this, so it's not like they just hand a cop knock on Piccolo's door and through him in jail or something.

Also, you're utterly wrong about the target audience. The target audience is the general public. Always is, always will be. These movies are only ever made to appease large amounts of people interested in action/adventure flicks. All fan appeasment is done as a bonus to the fans to help with word-of-mouth promotion. And until a movie is actually watched you can't really tell what/how any of the fan appeasment attempts exist/work/whatever.

And 99% of gan appeasement is things like extensive character resemblences (such as the 'realistic' Wolverine hair in X-men) and in-jokes (such as the yellow spandex joke in X-men) and never have any bearing on plot.
Oi. Did you guys completely miss my post before?
I saw it and I completely disregarded it because a lot of it was either outright wrong or grasping at straws for complaints.
-Goku doesn't have a tail. So Goku does not transform and Grandpa Gohan does not get killed by a rampaging giant ape.
1) We don't know anything about Goku's tail beyond the fact it is not present in the movie. Of course, we all know that teen Goku had a tail in the series so this is obviously a horrible change.

2) No, Goku doesn't step on Gohan. But... guess what? It changes nothing about the plot of the series overall. The biggest change is that he doesn't lose Gohan until later in life. But until we see the movie we can't tell what effect this has on him. However, considering that Goku doesn't give a shit 5-minutes after realizing he stepped on Gohan as a kid, and it's never mentioned, discussed, or otherwise noted again after the Goku/Vegeta battle it's not even important to the series.
-Goku is a generic blue-eyed, black (crazy styled) hair teen in high school. His naive nature seems non-existent, so no thinking his grandfather's Dragon Ball is actually him. Goku is also apparently the same age as Bulma and Yamcha.
1) He's got blue-eyes, big deal.

2) I don't know exactly how 'generic' he is, since he apparently has his strength from the start. And he is still a Saiya-jin.

3) Nothing has even remotely hinted at him not being naive. Nothing. We have, however, heard of a very 'Goku like' moment where he's torn between watching Chi-Chi's match at the tournament and getting himself some hotdogs.

4) Goku stopped thinking the 4-star ball was Gohan before he was even 13. So I don't see what bearing this has on... anything.

5) The hell? They aged him 4 years. Big whoop.
-Pilaf and Shuu are non-existent, thus changing Piccolo's method of tracking the Dragon Balls as they had built the giant radar for him along with Mai. Also, without Pilaf, Piccolo's freedom from his "prison" may be the cause of something else.
1) You expect them to try and include and explain PILAF just so you can have a live action manga? An alternate method of locating the DBs doesn't really change anything at all, because Pilaf was ejected from the Piccolo saga pretty damned quickly.

2) So Piccolo gets out by some means other than a bumbling little gremlin thing. This changes the plot of the story... how? What, because Pilaf didn't release Piccolo his desire is to eat ice crem all day instead of conquer the world?
-Kuririn is no where to be found. Thus resulting in Goku having to go fight Piccolo for another reason. The cause is likely the death of Gohan.
Series: Best friend is killed, so Goku sets off to avenge him.

Movie: Grandfather is killed, so Goku sets off to avenge him (and carry out his Grandfater's dying request).

Obviously, in the series, this means he goes to fight Piccolo. While in the movie, since Krillin's not the one who died, Goku instead sets off to become the next pop star.

The basic plot point is still exactly the same. This change is about as important as (*glues Desires mouth shut before he continues as he doesn't want to take the thread off topic*) switching Gwen with MJ in the first Spider-man movie and not killing her. In other words, tottaly unimportant.
-Tenshinhan is also missing, thus severely altering the final conflict between Goku and Piccolo as Ten was used as a hostage, thus allowing Piccolo to batter and smash up Goku's body. Chaozu is missing, as well.
Hmmm. So becuse Tien is MIA in the movie Piccolo can't take someone else hostage or even hurt Goku at all?
-Yajirobe and Karin are no where to be seen, thus eliminating Goku's several defeats during the arc and requiring him to take his training a step further and consuming special water to increase his powers to defeat Piccolo.
We don't know how many times Goku might lose during the course of the movie. But considering the fact he's only just training under Roshi in this movie that kind of eliminates the need for the water. I mean, Roshi's training is kind of taking its place, so it'd be rather redundant to include it, no?

My only wonder with the lack of Korin is if/how they'll introduce the Senzu's. But they might be discarded completely, they're quite userful but it's not impossible to re-work things in such a way as to not need them.
-None of Piccolo's spawn seem to be acknowledged. No Tambourine means no Kuririn death. No Kuririn means Goku's motive for revenge has to be changed. This also means Piccolo's fear of any martial artists learning the Mafuba technique is non-existent since he has no need to create spawns to take out any martial artist.
1) True. Instead of giving Piccolo a handful of high-ranked cronies they opted for a small army of weaker villains instead. Canon-fodder enemies. But, this is an action movie and that's standard action-movie material. Besides, it's not like Piano, Tamborine, Cymbal, or Drum were that overly important. Piano didn't do anything, Cymbal and Drum existed only to be killed, and Tamborine killed Krillin. At this point we don't know who, exactly, kills Gohan. Tamborine may be being replaced in whole by Mai. Or it might end up being the canon-fodder guys that take him out. Who knows, who cares, it's not exactly something that defines Dragon Ball either way.

2) I covered this bit before, about Goku's altered reasons. And I'll repeat here what I said then. It's a non-factor. Unimportant. The core concept remains the same.

3) What? As far as I can remember nothing is said about how he was sealed by Mutaito. But my guess is the Mafuba. And Piccolo does have his canon-fodder soldiers. So you can not claim he has 'no need for spawn' or no fear of the Mafuba or anything else you tried to claim in that line. We don't know what his canon-fodder guys are doing, aside from probably hunting DBs.

But even if this isn't present it doesn't completely alter the entire storyline into something completely unrecognizable. I mean, just because he's not killing martial artists to stop them from using Mafuba doesn't mean he's decided to become a ballerina.
-Piccolo's strength appears to be toned down severely as he wants the Dragon Balls for global domination. A great contradiction compared to the original form, as he clearly says he can conquer the world once he has his youth restored. This suggests Piccolo will not be old at first appearance in the movie. It also suggests that Piccolo has to rely on the Dragon Balls to do something his original character could do on his own. No wish for youth will be made by Piccolo.
1) Considering that Piccolo is the first villain Goku is facing in the movie-verse I'd sincerely hope he was toned down from the series version. It only makes sense.

2) Marsters has already confirmed that he made his make-up artist make him look older (as opposed to the young and youthful look FOX originally intended).

3) I seem to remember something about the wish being used to free Piccolo, but that was a long time ago and even if it was true then it may have been altered in the final script.
-If Piccolo is not the one to summon Shenlong, then Shenlong does not die. Thus destroying the hopelessness caused during the arc when Kuririn, Roshi, Chaozu and several innocent people and martial artists were likely never to come back to life due to the destruction of Shenlong. Because Kuririn, Chaozu and the martial artists don't exist in the movie, this whole thing does not exist in the movie.
1) 2 hour movie.

2) Movie audience has not seen the DBs revive people before. They do not have that "oh, everything's fine, the good-guys can be revived later" mentality, so the hoplessness is present via the deaths, nothing further is required.
-Master Mutaito is a black man in the movie. ...Do I have to explain how vastly different the actor is from the character?
Yes, because we all know every black man constantly uses slang and is gangster and that they can't be anything at all like Mutaito because they're black.
-Tsuru-sennin is no where to be heard from, either. Thus resulting in no Tenshinhan or Chaozu. Nor much of the backstory involving Roshi and Tsuru trying to take on Piccolo and then splitting ways before Mutaito sealed Piccolo away with the Mafuba.
1) We do not know that Tsuru is completely out (nor do we know that Tien, Chaotzu, and Krillin are completely out) of the movie. Name drops are always possible.

2) Mutaito is in the movie. We have flashbacks to Piccolo's original appearance. We do not know what will occur in this sequence. So it is entirely possible we'll get information about Roshi and Tsuru fighting Piccolo. Especially if they want to name drop Tien to try and include him in the next movie.
-Because of Goku's age in the movie, if a sequel were indeed to be made, the storyline involving Goku's training to fighting Piccolo Jr. would be altered. This also panders to the typical generic, almost-18 teenagers being super heroes, as opposed to about a mere kid stopping a demonic being.
........

Correct me if I'm wrong but... wasn't Goku an "almost-18 teenager" when he killed Piccolo? I mean, he was 15 years old, yes? And then he was 18 at the 23rd Budokai, yes? So, uh, where's the change?
-Quite possibly one of the biggest changes is Piccolo's backstory. Confirmed by James Marsters, Piccolo was once good but ended up being sent to prison after having a bad argument. Piccolo becomes angry and breaks free to take over the world. This means Piccolo is not the result of Kami trying to rid himself of his evil side to become a "God", as well as changes the fact that Piccolo was always trying to conquer the world for his pure pleasure and not for revenge. This in turn completely changes how the Dragon Balls came to be.
1) Yeah, Piccolo was always evil, that's why he had to push Kami out of himself.

2) He was 'sealed' not 'sent to prison' according to Marsters. He mentioned being 'imprisoned' IIRC, but that's a far thing from being sent to Alcatraz.

3) World conquest is world conquest. I don't think the motive matters all that much, unless you're just trying to be psychopathic. Which, true, was part of Piccolo's motives. But nothing says you can't be psychopathic and be out for revenge at the same time.

4) I never really expected Kami in the movie, to tell the truth. It's just a bit too much for one movie. Which means some alterations are needed for the backgaround. Maybe movie Piccolo never split like series Piccolo.

Who knows.

Who cares.

I'm not going to the theater to watch "DRAGONBALL: THE MANGA IN LIVE ACTION", I'm going to the theater to watch "DRAGONBALL: THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE ADAPTATION".
This in turn completely changes how the Dragon Balls came to be.
So, you've seen it stated that Piccolo wasn't the creator of the Dragonballs? Because just because they didn't split doesn't mean he couldn't have still created the DBs. I mean, he apparently created the BSDBs according to GT, no?

This is the main problem with your post. We don't know this...From what we've seen/heard. Goku WILL be a stereotypical teenage boy. Bulma's dressed up like some assassin woman. What do we even know about Roshi so far? As for Piccolo...From what you've been saying Piccolo was once good...Yet the REAL Piccolo is an embodiment of pure evil.

Frankly for the most part I agree with the rest of your post. I don't care what they do with the plot line in the least bit. I welcome an alternate story line for DB. Because there's no way we could get a good faithful adaption in 2 Hours. Altered plots can be fun. Hell just look at DragonBall Movies 1, 3, & 4.

However what I do not welcome is a change in the characters I know and love.

I don't see what the point of all this arguing is. It's not like anyone is going to change anybodies opinion on anything ! Shit! Can't we just discuss the movie without it breaking out into a full out verbal slug fest. Every other post is a big essay sized mess full of stuff that's already been established, bickering, and biased ass opinions ! It's funny how the people that are supposedly so against this movie still come to this thread and post everyday. Guess their more interested in it then the people that are for it. You can't even talk about the movie without some "funny guy" coming in with smart ass comments and making sure to crush any and all hope ! Alright! We get it ! You're sarcastic and cynical ! Jesus Christ !
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Well I know, but tensions are so high around here a mere joke can set somebody off into an insult filled rant. I'm not trying to be Jesus descending from the heavens but this thread is just easy for me to get all the new news on the Dragonball movie and I don't care enough to look it up myself so I'd rather it stay open. :D

No one is attacking anyone else. This is a fairly heated debate, but it's not personal. Admittedly most of the negative and "derisive comments" are from people that're attacking the movie, but of course that's directed at the movie because of our disappointment, not at other posters.

At this point, though, I wouldn't mind seeing the thread get closed. I'm not really interested in learning any more about the movie because I feel that they're being too liberal with the adaptation. Of course, that's just my opinion, but it's not completely baseless.

I've watched and enjoyed most of the animated Dragonball Z movies. Some of them don't fit into the story chronologically or have errors/contradictions. I'm not such a big stickler for canon that I can't overlook those issues to enjoy the movies. They featured original content, but with one important stipulation: they built off of the background story created by Akira Toriyama, and didn't change the characters' personalities or histories dramatically.

That's what I'm looking for in any adaptation of an author's work: faithfulness to the original -- within reason. Obviously they'd be hard pressed to find an actor that looked like Kuririn. That doesn't mean they should've put him aside entirely.

And that's my $0.02.

There are a lot of subtle "LOL UR SO STUPID 4 UR OPINION" comments in this thread. I don't want to point them out and make whoever said the comments feel like shit but if you look you can find them. For the record I know I'm not innocent, I've done my fair share of being an ass I admit. Anyway back on track, after seeing the antenna photoshopped onto our current Piccolo I'm glad they went the route of not putting them on in the actual movie.

Interview with Jamie Chung from IGN.com

IGN: Dragonball has such a huge following. Were you aware of it beforehand?

Chung: I’m so scared… I grew up watching Dragonball. Are you kidding me? I love it! So, to play Chi Chi, the girl that I admired, is kind of crazy. I kind of wanted to be Bulma, but Emmy Rossum is perfect for Bulma. She really fits the character essence and everything.

IGN: What was the shoot like?

Chung: It was awesome. A major motion picture and a TV schedule is so different and the budget’s are so different, and the magic that you can make happen is amazing.

IGN: Were you able to take any of the things you’d learned on Samurai Girl and use them in Dragonball?

Chung: Oh, yeah. And I learned even more on Dragonball and I brought it to Samurai Girl. It was great!

IGN: What was it like working with your costars in Dragonball?

Chung: They’re brilliant actors. Emmy, only being 21, is an absolute pro. She knows what she’s doing, she’s absolutely gorgeous – she’s stunning. And she’s dedicated. I was in awe of her beauty. James Marsters has a huge following, but he’s so down to Earth. He’s a method actor and he’s fantastic. He’s the perfect Piccolo. I know they won’t show it to you, but the makeup they did and the mask took three hours to do, and he looks insane. They were very picky and particular on how he was going to look. Justin Chatwin is a pro. Not only does he fit the character internally — he has Goku’s essence — but he looks like a cartoon character! With his big, blue eyes, he looks like Japanese anime!

IGN: What are your outfits like in Dragonball?

Chung: Lots of boobies. I mean, it fits my character name, you know?

IGN: [Laughs] What was your reaction seeing the costume?

Chung: I’m like, “You want me to look wholesome and you want me to wear pants and not show leg, and yet I have Chi Chis!”
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Now this article is from Variety Japan. Jamie Chung folks...

Jamie Chung, she appeared at the interview room in very high tension. As soon as she found out I was Japanese, she asked me the question, “Is it true that all Dragon Ball characters names derive from the name of vegetables?” The name of the Saiyan is so, I explained, she said “Well, what does Chi-chi mean in Japanese? Shooting place in Mexico, the crew spoke Spanish, all of them laughed when they called my name Chi-chi, I asked why they were laughing, they said that Chi-chi means boobs in Spanish!” I was surprised, in fact almost the same meaning in Japanese, when I told her it, “No!” She was shocked and put her hands on her head, but she rebound quickly, and showed an impish smile.

She is 25-years-old, a Korean American who was born and raised in San Francisco. The family lived in the Japan Town, She grew up surrounded by Japanese culture. The city where anime events are often held is her playground, Jamie says “Dragon Ball” and “Hello Kitty” is her Idol.

She knows the importance and high-visibility of Dragon Ball in Japan, so she take great care of Japanese fans.

“I know that a lot of Japanese actors wanted to play the movie’s roles, so I gave my best for Japanese fans to be satisfied with it, I’m happy if you enjoy. Director James Wong did diligent research, he read a lot of Japanese manga, I’m sure that this movie will be respecting the original as much as possible. I heard that his son who hadn’t read Dragon Ball yet, read it around this time and was fascinated with it. Japanese people may think the Japanese should be cast more in the movie, but when we thought of the story, Goku is an alien. Justin Chatwin looks astonishingly like Goku, I think he is exactly Goku. He looks like Japanese a little bit (laugh). ”

The most powerful woman to play, her weak scene was……

“Chi-chi is one of the strongest women. To play the action heroine is the dream of every actress. There are a lot of roles for romantic comedy and melodrama, but action heroine not so much. Producer Stephen Chow couldn’t come to the set, but he gave us a lot of the ideas for actions before the shooting, at the same time I watched the Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle to research action scenes. Staff of action sequences were very excellent, and I believe it will be amazing scenes mixed with various martial arts like tae kwon do and so on.

Jamie is slender and it looks like she has excellent reflexes. Her most
difficult scene was not action scene, she said.

“It was kiss scene, because it was the first time for me……. This didn’t have choreography (unlike the action scenes), I had to think for myself. I was so nervous. It was very difficult, more so than action scenes (laughs).”

When I asked about Eriko Tamura, she showed beaming face.

“Eriko is a very good friend! She is a great, beautiful, cute and polite. She played Mai, a very evil and dark character, though she is very good and cheerful. But she is a method actor (acting based on the experience) so she got into the role even in the break time of shooting and controlled herself if she wanted to have a chat. She tried very hard.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

If we're all here for a reason then I'm just visiting.

If it's held in your heart then you can't let go.

Chung: Lots of boobies. I mean, it fits my character name, you know?
I don't know what the hell you people keep complaining about.
I know Rocketman will be seeing this film.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Poor Chung, she must be extremely near-sighted. >>

Kaboom's Crazy, Speculative Post as to Piccolo's character

Post by Kaboom » Sat Sep 06, 2008 2:22 pm

Gozar wrote:This is the main problem with your post.
They're not nearly as different as you think. Look through Dbthemovie.com's updates on the various actors, and you can see how they themselves have attested to that:
Justin Chatwin wrote:
"I am very honored to be able to play Goku. When I am playing gentle and loving Goku, I feel as if I am given energy from him."

-------

"First of all, it’s an honor to play Goku, because he is a very important and epic character. He is always seeing the positive side of things, does good things, and always tries to help and take care of the weak, not only pursuing his power. He is a dependable and loving man as well as a boy. So I like Goku.

In preparation for the role, of course I read the original manga (all of it), in addition, I read Monkey King a little, because Dragonball is based on Monkey King. And during the break time of shooting, I got into Goku’s character, telling jokes with other cast in search of the real communication which can be used in acting."

Goku is kind, gentle, and chivalrous, yet also a bit of a goofball. We've also got that thing with the hot dogs during Chi-chi's match, suggesting that he's retained his appetite, and is somewhat clueless in the ways of love. Jamie Chung's description of a "kiss scene" hints that Chi-chi gets the point across eventually. :D

Emmy Rossum wrote:"I am a big fan of Bulma. Because she is very energetic, sexy, and has a strong will. I think it is an honor to play the girl who is drawn as one of the smartest girls in the world. I will make the best use of her intellect, high motivation and reckless character which are drawn in the original in my acting. But because this is the live action movie, I have to do a little more three-dimensional acting.

I hope I can rightly play Bulma who the fans saw and loved, and I want to make them happy. I know how much responsibility I have, and I have a great love for her. I think I resemble her. Both of us will do what we decide to do, and we are fascinated with the boys. And we have a passion for the goal of our life and carry a torch for it.
Bulma's smart and ambitious, but a little bit wild and boy-crazy. Maybe not to the point of "so horny she'll ogle Zarbon" on that last one, but still, the woman's said it herself.
Chow Yun-Fat wrote:
"He then talked about the Character of Master Roshi, “He is funny, very funny. (laugh)"

----

"He explained the similarities between him and Master Roshi, “He and I love ladies. But my wife is always around me, so I can’t be looking at ladies so much.”

----

"He is different from the image of Master Roshi than in the original, but he surprisingly matched the lovable mischief and dirty old man perfectly."
Roshi's of course the wise old martial arts master, but his goofiness and lecherous ways are intact, at least to some degree. A little more vague than the others, but still promising.
James Marsters wrote:What do you care about in acting for this movie?

JM: "That’s a good question. Speaking of Piccolo, one word comes into my mind, it’s “loneliness”. Piccolo is always floating in the air in the beautiful landscape, but he never even admires the landscape, he is only thinking or musing and staring at his feet. I think that is a characteristic of piccolo more than anything else. Maybe it must be a characteristic for revenge. He hates himself and blames the people who has trapped him. His desire to kill not only them but their family, furthermore to destroy the city and the planet they live and protect. To get revenge is everything to him. Everything."
That's a pretty good glimpse into Piccolo's character, and shows Marsters really does understand him.

As for the "changes" to Piccolo's backstory, I've been thinking. And I've realized that it's still, in fact, very close to his original story, just... minus Kami.

In the original, the "Son of Katatz" gets sent to Earth. He grows up around humans, witnessing the good and bad they do. Humankind's selfish wickedness, a relatively alien concept to the Namekian mindset, ends up corrupting him, and eventually, it becomes necessary for him to physically expel that evil side of him. It takes form and becomes Piccolo, a being of pure evil.

But imagine this: What if the Son of Katatz HADN'T expelled that evil? What if he'd continued to live among humans and be influenced by them? Would he eventually snap? I imagine the "Piccolo" side of him might end up taking over and changing him, to the point where he became evil himself. Or maybe, in his bitterness, he would come to see humankind as despicable, evil, irredeemable creatures, which he would convince himself he needs to rule over and put back in line, or even exterminate them entirely.

Thus, simply by removing the aspect of Kami, we have the movie version of King Piccolo. Here on out, I'm gonna imagine up the story based on what we know, plus a fair share of my own ideas.

Centuries or millennia or whatever ago, he sees humankind as the "badguys," and he took action. In his false, twisted sense of duty or righteousness, he tried to conquer or destroy the world. After wreaking havoc, certain people, including Mutaito, ended up being able to stop him and seal him away. For a long time, he remains in that jar, stewing and coming to resent humanity even more. His bitterness is reflected in his changing appearance; ages sealed away in the darkness makes him pale, pasty, wrinkled, and perhaps his antennae squished up against his skull from insufficient head room.

Eventually, he is released by a strange cult, led by a shapeshifter with a bunch of ninja underlings, who seek to follow and serve under him in his conquest, which he's more than happy to oblige for his own goals (Pilaf and company in the series, Mai and her clan in the movie). More bitter and "evil" than ever before, Piccolo goes so far as to spawn monstrous underlings of his own. He spitefully remembers the people who sealed him away, and learns that one of them is still alive: Master Roshi. Not only that, but Roshi's student possesses one of the Dragon Balls.

Piccolo moves against Gohan, and has Mai and their underlings begin to gather the other Dragon Balls (what their backstory is in the movie, we don't know yet. They might not even have any connection to Piccolo, but that would make it harder to do Planet Namek later on, if they plan to. He certainly knows of their existence, it seems.). Piccolo personally shows up at Gohan's home in the mountains, and the old man is no match for him. Gohan's grandson/student tries to intervene, but neither are any match for Piccolo. Though intrigued by the boy's abnormal strength, Piccolo swats him aside, steals the DragonBall, mortally wounds Gohan, and leaves.

Eventually, Piccolo and his posse have gathered all the Dragon Balls and he is prepared to summon Shenlong. Roshi, however, shows up and attempts to fight him to prevent it. Roshi attempts to use the same technique as his master from years ago to seal Piccolo away, but it fails, and either kills Roshi or weakens him enough that Piccolo is able to do so easily. Piccolo summons Shenlong and makes his wish to have his youth and power restored. Now more green, badass, and powerful than ever, Piccolo takes off to conquer the world. He single-handedly charges into the world capitol city and takes it over. The military try to resist, to no avail. Weaver, Emi, and Carey Fuller are all gruesomely killed in the fracas and later eaten by Fulum Assassins. Piccolo establishes a base in the city and declares himself King.

Goku shows up and challenges Piccolo. He is far stronger than any normal person could have progressed, and Piccolo now realizes why. He recognizes Goku as a Saiyan, informs him of it, and appeals to that nature, asking him to rule by his side. Goku of course, refuses, and puts up a good fight. So good, that Piccolo has to resort to taking hostages; namely Chi-Chi, Bulma, and Yamcha. Fulum Assassins all gang up on Goku, and if he puts up any resistance, Piccolo hurts his friends. Goku is forced to watch as Yamcha, who tried to fight back, is beaten to within an inch of his life and casted aside. Goku gets even more pissed off, but still holds back, until Piccolo moves against Chi-Chi. Chi-Chi tells him not to worry about her, and that she loves him. When Piccolo hurts her, Goku explodes, blasting away the horde of Fulum all at once and beating on Piccolo before he can even react.

(Wow, this has gotten too long. I'm not sure what's supposed to happen to Mai, either... Kinda lost track of her)

Before long, Goku's crazy Saiyan power has Piccolo beaten. Piccolo tells and expects Goku to kill him, but once he's calmed down, Goku refuses. Piccolo is stunned that someone who'm he'd stolen so much from and wronged so much would in the end spare his life. It goes completely against the view of humanity he'd held up until then. Battered and confused, but having taken his first step towards redemption, Piccolo escapes to go off and hide.

So, um... there we go. Movie-Piccolo's tale of corruption, imprisonment, conquest, and redemption from his point of view. All neatly wrapped up in a tale very similar to the original story, yet adjusted for time and content within a movie. All it took was removing one extra character to make it plausible. Most of it is obviously just me building on the vague snippets of plot we've had revealed to us, but it's still pretty solid, and I know whoever's writing this movie can come up with a better plot than this 15-minute brainstorm by an absent-minded fan.
