Good question. DBZ's the main milk for FUNimation, so they tend to spread that all out as much as they can.

On the other hand, DBGT's two recent DVD sets were only two months apart from each other (December 2008 to February 2009), and that covered 64 episodes. If this first DB set is going to contain ~31 episodes, and the series is 153 episodes in length, and they maybe stick with an every-other-month schedule...

... we're looking at maybe five sets with a would-be-generous-and-in-no-way-confirmed release schedule of September 2009, November 2009, January 2010, March 2010, and May 2010.

Basically, don't count on it being done by the end of 2009 :P. 2010, though? Always a possibility. We've seen countless delays over the years, though...

Which brings me to this: shall you be picking one of these up, if without the widescreen issue?

Well you also have to factor in, we don't really know how long this whole process has been underway. They may well just have started recently and not be ready to do fast releases, but they also could have kept this hush hush for a while and be ready to get this out quickly. There's no real way to know any of that.

I'm hoping they can get them out to us swiftly. I wanna complete my collection ^_^

Regarding that trailer, and forgive me if someone already pointed it out, but there is that one shot with Goku standing arms crossed as the shadow moves quickly around him. Isn't that from the second opening? Wouldn't this mean that FUNi has rights to that footage?

They probably put it up for marketing their services, then realized "Oh, oops this hasn't been announced yet".
Oh no, I totally get WHY they would EVENTUALLY get the piece to include in their portfolio... I'm just shocked they were given it so early, especially considering the circumstances of FUNimation's silence and bat-aways with all the other online listings.

Speaking of the trailer and its music, what did everyone think of the background music in the trailer? :P I thought it... wasn't quite fitting, but overall a pretty decent take on generic Chinese/Japanese traditional-style music to fit in with the style of the show. Would have loved an instrumental of "Makafushigi..." in there, instead :?
I really didn't enjoy it. And yes, they could've put a Makafushigi Adventure instrumental. I wonder if the music in the trailer will be the music of the the menus...
The background music made me wonder... Are we gonna get a new OST for the dub track? Because all this time, they used the original one with their dub in the old releases.
Even if they did... I won't listen to the dub track, so it's not a big deal to me.

I don't see why they would remix the background when they already HAD the originals in the dub already. >.>

It's used in both, I believe.

The trailer music was a bit too action-oriented, but it works for something like this.

Know what would be funny? If the commercial was done with regular footage or something and the actual release was just like DBZ; widescreen horrible remaster, etc. Fans would raaaaaaage.

Doubt that will happen, it's good they're finally listening and doing what most people want

Meh I wouldn't rage. I'd just buy the two sets I'm missing and be finished with Dragonball.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

As long as it was not that generic rock music. I've heard ENOUGH of that crap.

EDIT: It actually seems as if FUNi is "trying" to please fans with this release because the trailer music has a somewhat traditional Chinese taste to it, as Mike has said.
Gohan: At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore.
Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.

I can't say that we get Dragon Box, but from the trailer we received pretty good masters. I don't remember the original masters this well polished and clean.

Ah, the wonders of DVNR....
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I don't see how we can comment on that matter, considering we're going off some crappy quality YouTube video.

I didn't like the trailer music either, but then again is their really a need for Funi to spend big bucks for the trailer music for a product thats essentially already has its fan base firmly established? The people who are going to buy it probably won't do so based on trailer music.

With that said, I think that we will see different music on the menus. They'll at least want to "jazz" up the product that they are putting out.

I wonder if Funimation is going to release the first movie soon after this as well.

You can't, but I'm just hoping it's not WS! Otherwise I'm clicking the order button on Dragon Box DVD Box Dragon Ball, about $900

They won't be WS. If previous trailers have shown us, the aspect ratio is what we get in the final product.

And none of that "WIDESCREEN!!! THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN!!! WITH MORE PICTURE ON THE SIDE, SO YOU CAN GOKU'S EAR!!!"

Am I the only person who found that advertising annoying? This is much better.
