"Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Well, now that I (and I'm sure all fans) have kind of deduced and accepted the Kai Buu Saga won't come until after the Cell Saga finishes its run on Toonami - I decided to count down the weeks until it finishes. Originally, I thought it would take until January 2017 - But like another fan said, it will actually finish in late November of this year. And then, November 26 will be the first weekend where they can air Episode 99. 7 Years Since That Event! Starting Today, Gohan's a High Schooler (That is unless they pull the bs of OH WE'RE GOING TO START OVER FROM THE VERY BEGINNING FOR A WHILE. I'm sure '90s DBZ fans are familiar with this).
And if Toonami does double episode premieres towards the end of the Cell Saga or for at least one week, the Cell Saga can finish sooner (I doubt it though). Basically though, it will end sometime in mid-late November (if not sooner). So, at least we're getting closer now and by November - Funimation will have no excuse to not air the Buu Saga anymore. And since Sean Schemmel recently confirmed recording is COMPLETELY finished, I sincerely believe we'll be getting it late this year. If we're lucky, Funimation will do what they did back in May 2010 when they aired and released Kai simultaneously.
So, does anyone think it should just air on Toonami or also Nicktoons again? Nicktoons airs Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc V (I doubt anyone cares though) and they don't have much going on so I'm sure they would benefit from more Dragon Ball and really push it. Maybe? Also, it'd be nice for DB to reach wider audiences (Kids-Teens: Nicktoons and Teens-Adults: Toonami), especially in time for Dragon Ball Super.
SIDE NOTE: It's going to be nice when we get that official confirmation in regards to release so that this discussion can truly come to an end.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Just for the love of God dont make me wait until like 2019-2020 to have all of Kai and whatever is available of Super up to that point. Pretty sure everybody's tents will have started to decay from so many years of enduring the wait.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Personally I'm hoping that Nicktoons can get the rights to air the censored version while Toonami is dragging its feet getting through Kai 1.0. After all, you would think that both Funimation and Toei would want want Kai 2.0 to have lots of exposure to kids so they get hyped for more merchandise. Waiting for Toonami only really makes sense if Toonami shelled out a lot of money for exclusive rights to air these new episodes.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Yeah, they really should try to reach a wider audience. Its really odd for a series like Dragon Ball to end up limited to a midnight run. Is it really not possible to get a better time slot for a high profile series like this?
Personally, I'm just mystified that it's taken so long. They've most likely already finished dubbing by now, and people are just going to lose interest if they put it off for too long.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
I made a thread about this on the General section.(Dragon Ball on a kids channel) Also there's the 8PM airing for general audiences. But ironically the Midnight airing is the higher rated among younger people (1 million viewers below the 18-49 range along with 1 million above reaching 2 million viewers)
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
So, in case no one's heard about this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUZUPk94A9o) - Toonami's doubling "new" episode of Dragon Ball Z Kai, which means 2 episodes a week now. I don't know if it's for one week only, but if it goes beyond just one week - Then, I TOTALLY CALLED THIS!!! Or, at least suggested they do this. So, if they keep this going - We could actually have Kai's Buu Saga (The Final Chapters) by mid/late-August instead of mid/late-November due to the fact that at this time: Kai only has 27 episodes left of the Cell Saga and 27 divided by 2 is 13.5 - So, Kai's Buu Saga would be able to air August 21 or August 28.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I made a thread about this on the General section.(Dragon Ball on a kids channel) Also there's the 8PM airing for general audiences. Honestly, I really hope they do this because it's exactly what Kai needs to get people more hyped again towards the Buu Saga because fans would know it's coming sooner. Maybe, even towards the end of this Power Hour thing - Each Saturday they show a sneak peak of Funimation's Kai Buu Saga with Great Saiyaman scenes and what not.
Also with the current confirmation that Sean and the cast have finished Kai, it makes sense that Funimation should either be almost DONE or DONE with the Buu Saga - which means maybe Toei.Funimation is finally giving the go-ahead to air it on Toonami. Makes me glad I just got Part One and Parts 3-4 (Part 2 is on the expensive side, but I'll probably have it by the time the Kai Buu Saga releases) of the original Kai DVD releases - as well as Kai Seasons 3-4 to prepare for the eventual Kai Buu Saga Funimation releases.
Ah, for all I know this could mean nothing. But evidence is kind of starting to get me more excited. Besides, I need my yearly DB Funimation releases and as far as I know, they've released nothing Dragon Ball this year - which further points to them releasing Kai this year now that it's done to keep DB relevant. Man, it's going to be nice to no longer have to hear Kikuchi's score for Kai and go back to the fresher aspects with the Buu Saga's new score by Sumitomo, I believe (things that made Kai unique and new originally before the whole Kenji thing).

It says right there it's for one week only, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. It'd be cool if we did hear about this soon, though.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Yeah, you're right (which basically means I got myself all hyped and posted that whole previous topic for no reason). Okay, now I REALLY need to only post on here if we get some concrete confirmation regarding the YOU-KNOW-WHAT Saga of Kai. I just figured the Power Hour thing might be a hint of what's to come, but whatever - This still shortens the wait by one episode so that's good news at least.Valerius Dover wrote:It says right there it's for one week only, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
I'm starting to think they're holding back the end of buu Kai so they can air it right into Super once that's ready to go.
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
I dont expect anything in particular considering what we currently expect. That being said its been a while. Has anyone heard anything whatsoever noteworthy? Hows the Funi release schedule currently looking? Any Toonami news I'm unaware of? Like was that double feature a one time deal or are they airing 2 per week now?

It was a one time deal, and the week after they had a Samurai Champloo marathon and didn't even air Kai so we're back where we started.ShaneisMC wrote:I dont expect anything in particular considering what we currently expect. At this point I don't think we'll be getting the Boo saga despite what the VAs have said.

It's going to be released, ask Geekdom101. Actually he lives in your area, if you ask I'm sure he can validate that for you.DB_Fan1991 wrote:At this point I don't think we'll be getting the Boo saga despite what the VAs have said.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Do you think Toonami are going to sit around and let all those viewers go instead of airing more Kai episodes ?Lord Beerus wrote:Over 300,000 viewers tuned out after Kai and never came back in any capacity. They basically stuck around for Kai and then bailed.
If the original Kai which aired before and has been on home video for years is doing this good then how good do you think a Toonami exclusive will do ? it'll probably bring in double what the current Kai does and there's no way Toonami are going to let that go.
The only reason we got the Buu arc was due to it being requested by international companies so if the Buu arc is as successful as I think it's going to be then don't be surprised if we start hearing about a Kai version for the original DB, it happened once so it can happen again.

He has said in his videos "It's coming. That's all I can say". Sounds like an NDA to me. He said it mightn't be released this year, but it will be released.thaman91 wrote:How does he know? I would love that to happen so much, but I don't know if its likely that Nozawa will do Super and another DB series at the same time, and there definitely won't be a dub-only series.sintzu wrote:a Kai version for the original DB

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
As far as a DB Kai goes, if nothing else I've got the fan cut one if anyone wants. Its damn impressive. As far as Buu Kai goes at this point there really is no cause for concern. Theres been plenty of unofficial confirmation and the most likely candidate for expected release is still over 5 months away. Now if we get towards/past that point and still no one has said anything then yeah be like wtf. Even then, I mean obviously they already did all the work. We know they did. For them not to release makes no sense.
