Do people really get this attached to minor characters with little to no personality or development, or is this some kind of sarcasm I'm missing? For example I like the designs of a lot of the characters in this tournament such as the robots of U3, but I'm not going to say they're great characters or I'm heartbroken that they lost.
Like I don't get it.

No sarcasm, Frost wasn't a minor character whatsoever and neither was his design meant to show he was one..
Katopesla was legitimately a good fighter with a no bullshit attitude, got a quite a lot of screen time to set an interesting personality, voice and came with mystery modes under his belt ( literally )..
Unlike some godforsaken characters who only transformed all the time breaking all logic spreading bullshit everywhere they look and threatening to beat people up stronger and better than them at every aspect of life and existence itself..
That's the real cancer and not worth supporting or getting attached to..

Ironic how the only fighter with stretcheable arms left got ringed out so cheap. Would have prefered he was part of the jiren u7 cleanse session.perucho1990 wrote:Piccolos elimination felt very forced tbh, it shouldve been 18 but they had to save her for the U3 episodes when Papparoni hacks her.

What I can't tell is if I'm happy or sad that he got taken out by a cheap trick instead of failing power wise.Arg wrote:Ironic how the only fighter with stretcheable arms left got ringed out so cheap. Anyway, U4 , specifically their remaining fighters, feel so wasted. Covert based strategies can be so much fun if you know how to use them creatively.
Edit: one thing I can't help but notice is that compared to the pages upon pages of passionate discussion that preceded the episode, the reaction to the actual episode seems to be pretty much around "meh" level
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Because these "minor characters" are supposed to be Top 10 of their respective universes, therefore logically they SHOULDN'T be minor. I'm disappointed by how long they've kept Shantsa in only to dispose of him in 1 minute.precita wrote:Do people really get this attached to minor characters with little to no personality or development, or is this some kind of sarcasm I'm missing? Like I don't get it.
I also like their designs and overall it would be nice to see someone unexpected have a good fight. Katopesla had a chance but he has been fodderized over and over only to end his career anti climatically. I guess the U2 Trio from last week's episode counts for what I mean, but ultimately they accomplished nothing too.
Why can't they just let someone else that's not Saiyan or Jire shine for longer? Heck, even Toppo the GoD candidate has zero eliminations.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
It doesn't matter what they're supposed to be when they come off as the complete opposite. So far these characters are really lame and make me question how their universes are above U7. This could've easily been avoided with less, more focused on and developed characters.Xeogran wrote:Because these "minor characters" are supposed to be Top 10 of their respective universes, therefore logically they SHOULDN'T be minor.precita wrote:Do people really get this attached to minor characters with little to no personality or development, or is this some kind of sarcasm I'm missing?
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Yes and that's why I'm disappointed. Top 20 should have been all of characters with similar level of strength. It's weird how people like Shantsa made it in when Hit didn't. That's why I thought Shantsa wouldn't be a joke, and yet..sintzu wrote:It doesn't matter what they're supposed to be when they come off as the complete opposite. Wow you really liked that fodder had 0 build up and 0 personality for some odd reason to keep complaining about him that much.Xeogran wrote:

Its your fault you know for having such high expectations for no reason, since you even expected shantsa to eliminate Piccolo for whatever reason when it was obvious the bugs were the stars of U4 and this episode.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
And even the bugs were fodder besides their gimmicks. It's not MY job to give the characters personality, it's Toei's. And it's not my fault they're failing at developing characters properly.Whatever wrote: Wow you really liked that fodder had 0 build up and 0 personality for some odd reason to keep complaining about him that much.

I get attached to their deisgns, and because of false promises. Letting a random blue blob reach Top 20 for no reason without any pay off was a weird writing choice to make. That's why I liked Shantza, there was a mystery surrounding him, but of course, wasted potential.
I hope the manga does him justice.

Dislike Damon's execution since we've known about him so long. Went down like a chump. Piccolo was a disgrace this episode.
Next week I'm hoping Gohan takes out the entire of Universe 3 just to spare me the boredom so we can get on with Vegeta's fight

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Its not whatever if it is your job,the problem is out of all the things you complain about how a fodder was treated when Toei did not even bother to give much of a personality and gave you zero reason to care about him.Xeogran wrote:

They were never any promises about him!His whole purpose was to play support for the bugs.I get attached to their deisgns, and because of false promises. Letting a random blue blob reach Top 20 for no reason without any pay off was a weird writing choice to make.
There was no mystery anywhere, before this episode in one of his few scenes we even show him being scared. That's why I liked Shantza, there was a mystery surrounding him, but of course, wasted potential.
There was nothing more to do with him,his power was useless without the bugs helping him out so his full potential was reached.
Wow you must really liked Shantza in your headcanon if you want Toyotaro to treat better an 1 time fodder.I hope the manga does him justice.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
So you have a problem with me liking a character? I notice you attach to each of my posts.
This is how namekiansaiyan must've felt like... Except I'm not as sensitive, and could care less about you trying to persuade me to not care about Shantza

I can see why people are disappointed with his character in the later part of the episode, but what about the first part? Saves two of his teammates, eliminates two opponents with ease.
The fact that he of all characters failed to hear his opponent is almost suspicious if it weren't for the fact that I think it's more than possible that the writers forgot about this aspect of his character....

Toei's job isn't to cater to your needs. They develop the characters as much as they want so they aren't failing in any way.Xeogran wrote:And even the bugs were fodder besides their gimmicks. What false promises? The show doesn't care about top 20, 10, 5, 3 so why do you? Realistically, this is what happens: in a battle royale, people stay and peope go in no particular order or reason.
Also, the bug is just one.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
What i am getting as is that you have only yourself to blame for setting your expectations high for no reason.Out of all things Toei did wrong Shantza is not one of them.Xeogran wrote:So you have a problem with me liking a character? I notice you attach to each of my posts.

The problem is not you liking him(for whatever reason you do)but because your reasoning for complaining falls flat on his face, the real Shantza could never match up to your headcanon Shantza.
You also seem really sensitive of him to complain about his treatment in 3 different sites.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Grand Priest stating in one episode something along the lines that "all of the weak fighters are now out" shows they do care. And yet it has been proven that despite that line, many weak fighters were still in, which was a huge disappointment and false promise.alakazam^ wrote:What false promises? It's only natural for a Tournament to get more intense in it's last minutes, and not be some kind of a joke competition like in this episode.
Yes it is. The writer for this episode even forgot Shantza could naturally fly to save himself. Zero use of his main attitude. Next thing you're going to tell me Nigrisshi was not a wasted characterWhatever wrote: What i am getting as is that you have only yourself to blame for setting your expectations high for no reason.Out of all things Toei did wrong Shantza is not one of them.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I like the little fella but well, top 10 in his universe isn`t top 10 in U7. You could have had an episode of Yamcha and co dealing with these characters and the result would of been the same.

I actually thought Piccolo was great this episode. Best he's been in a long time, even the elimination saved face by not having him defeated with power. It was a mistake any fighter could have made.
