Now I'm really curious as to what the issues with Batman were, as I just happened to notice that set in the store today.

One of the episodes is missing a scene and the first episode is missing it's narration (some said the narration was added on later rebroadcasts to match the rest of the series)

Hmm. Missing a scene is bad, but if it's true that the original broadcast didn't have narration, then best to do without.

And this was something that they spent top dollar to work on.

Never doubt the ability of work to start to bleed together when you spend a ton of time on it.

I believe after the initial comments about the narration from the pilot, it came out that it actually WAS in the original airing, somehow got removed, then got added back in later.

Could be worse than Batman or DBZ though... Before Saban Brands licensed Digimon, Cinedigm worked directly with Toei to put the dubbed version of Digimon on DVD. Toei forgot a scene for season 2... the first scene in the season. That overviews the timeskip and character changes between seasons.

Potentially... they couldn't have added the narration without the person who masterminded the series, so he probably wanted it in. So it's arguable it should be there, even if it in fact wasn't there day 1 (most people don't realize that Bill Dozier himself was the narrator for Batman.)

Yea it's weird. This is the version with Narration
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gll2c4_468

And this is whats on the set
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFEZDQI4G1Y

The second clip is from a bootleg set that used the masters from Fox (these VHS sets were made for the actors in 1989). These bootleg sets are also missing a scene too the that new official sets are missing (which suggest they're from the same masters). Very odd. I just read the missing scene was a re-shoot to add in for some reason.

They wouldn't be from the same masters, but it's possible they used the same edit/cut list.

Ordered season 9 for a good price. Now I just need 1 more season(8) and I'll have em! :)
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Now that they're done with the Season Blu-rays please release the Dragon Ball films (1-4) on Blu-ray because they've proven to have it in HD.
After this, a proper HD remaster of the Dragon Ball Z films would be really nice plus with the Japanese audio straight from the Japanese Dragon Boxes or better (the Laser Discs had superior audio, I think).
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

I hate these new HD Dragon Ball movie transfers. Someone needs to go remove the brightness and contrast controls from their editing suites because I am sick to death of them crushing the fucking blacks. Sheer incompetence.

I'm no video expert but I don't see anything wrong with how the blacks look on those two images?

They're so crushed. Here's the Dragon Box version compared against it:
All dark detail is utterly destroyed.

Holy smokes! haha yeah. I love those Dragon-boxes :) but I don't think those images above(that dbboxkaifan posted) are bad. but that's definitely crazy there^ I have the first 2 seasons of the dragon-boxes of the original series downloaded because I was afraid they'd never make their way over here so I got em when I could. here's hoping they will!

Kind of worthless comparisons. What do their masters look like? What do their previous DVD releases look like? And so forth.

Just showing that a better copy exists doesn't mean much of anything in regards to how their current version came to look how it looks.

If you are going to talk about someone else being incompetent you should at least make your argument properly.

Forget the movies. I'd rather have funimation release all five seasons of Dragon Ball on blu ray

I'm 50/50. If they remaster the movies again I'm happy. and if they remaster the original series I'm happy so it's a win win. :P

Fair point. Hopefully this clears things up somewhat.

We've seen their masters from the Level Sets themselves as well the documentaries about the process. There does appear to be inherent crush but it's not to the same degree as this.

It's not exactly a secret that FUNi's go-to 'remastering' process involves saturating the image and over contrasting it. That's been happening for years, as I'm sure you're well aware of.

Take a look at the single of Movie 2 compared to their 'remaster' that adopted the same process they've stuck with for some time now:
It's pretty clear they've crushed the detail there. For whatever reason the difference seemed greater in Photoshop so you may want to throw the image in there for a more accurate look.

But yes, I do admit, it is pure conjecture on my part but I highly doubt their masters show anywhere near the same level of black crush as these HD versions do.

If it does? Then okay, that's one less thing I can feel annoyed by. I don't think that excuses their decisions regarding colour which are equally as destructive.
Goku The Human Orange! He looks ridiculous.

Hopefully this elaboration makes me sound a little more sane and not just 'Mr. FUNi basher' as I've clearly come across as.

I actually just noticed AjayLikesGaming, after looking at the bottom picture of Goku holding the power pole that the black lines look all squiggly compared to the other. why is that? the black lines look weird...probably wouldn't notice it during the animation's movement right? I hope this isn't confusing. :P

That's just me being lazy with resizing the picture. I used the wrong algorithm and created jaggies. I figured with dbboxkaifan's normal image already up, it wouldn't matter. Woopsies
