It's one of the only things I dislike about that movie, cuz holy can of worms.
History of Trunks came out long before Movie 13. Toei likely thought it(Tapion giving Trunks his sword, which looks exactly like Future Trunks' sword) would be a cool send up to fans, without completely thinking about the implications...Classic Toei.

This to tee. This special is so black because robs us of the happier characters and lays all the entirely unintentional fragility of DBZ's entire scenario bare. I don't know how funny you can make a parody riding off a parody that has been inserting threads of these things into the series itself. It only makes it worse!

True. But on one hand, Canon Android Saga had the most inconsistencies because of all the time travel stuff. Future Androids were more cruel and weaker, somehow. Present Androids were more neutral and stronger. When Future 17 answered Trunks' reply with "Why not, who's going to stop us?" that was what Present 17 said; Maybe it was decided that the abridged Androids in all timelines are amoral, and the only thing keeping the present from being like the future were people who are strong enough to stop 17 and 18.
To be honest, i don't really believe that canon future cyborgs are weaker, Trunks thinks that, because he didn't know that they only used 50% to fight him, while present cyborgs could go all-out right from the beginning.

Oh yeah, love how they kept Vegeta's rage scream from the Namek Saga in this special. Can't help but wonder who else heard it considering how it reached Future Earth 20 years (was it 20 I forgot) later.

True, but it was stated by Bulma, that there was not much of difference in power between Gohan and Trunks
Yes, but the 50% line is only relevant to Gohan's first battle against #17, it was not established to be the case in their final match.
