Well yeah I'm not denying that, calling the whole series DBZ is just stupid. That's not that common anymore though thankfully
I don't think it is stupid at all that people refer to the franchise as DBZ, as mentioned before Toei did specifically change DB Kai to DBZ Kai for Int audience's and they themselves made the whole DBZ thing up too and not only that but the small Manga's by Viz are known as DBZ too, so you can't really blame people for referring to DB on a whole as DBZ, it is also part of habit too, I know whenever I wanted to talk about DB I often added Z on the end too by accident.

I don't know, but my friends and people I know and their friends familiar with the franchise talk about it as Dragon Ball :)

The growing in frequency: "Gohan is a weakling" type posts. The joke got old fast, it's out of proportion from just one movie. It get's annoying with the frequency and how people extrapolate even the slightest thing, to have another opportunity to say "Gohan is weaker than_________(fill blank). The character wasn't more mistreated or less than many others in series. A punchline for the sake of a punchline.

Really this is applicable to most of the characters these days. Well you know...besides Goku, Vegeta, Beerus, and Whis. It also ties to this annoying notion that Power = Good Characters, that to this day still permeates the fandom. I mean...think about it, we're at the point of saying Super Vegetto is weak! Let that sink in...! Either way, yeah I agree the Gohan bashing has been getting a little overboard these days.
Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

Like voltlunok said, another thing that irritates me the most is the fact if "X" (to put a dead horse, eg: Gohan) characters is not represented as a badass and strong fighter = character being ruined forever.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Treating Goku like he's a real person and feeling frustrated with him "stealing the spotlight".

Goku stealing the spotlight from Uub and Gohan.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Speaking of spotlight, another irritating thing for me :
"Goku having too much spotlight/screentime"
When in fact from the z portion onward of the series, Goku actually loses screentime gradually.

The fact that Superman beats Goku. I never argue against the point but when I look at discussions I ALWAYS wish that someone is able to give Goku a fighting chance using logic instead of fan wank.

I know it's stupid that anyone should care about one fictional character beating another fiction character but I do care, the child in me always idolised Goku and if I were a child again, knowing that he would get stomped by the best incarnation, the second best incarnation and maybe the third best incarnation of Superswan would get me upset.

People thinking that Bulma and Trunks last names are Briefs or Brief.
People thinking Marks last name is Satan.
People thinking Mr. Satan's real name is Mark Satan.
People thinking Mr. Satan's real name is Hercule Satan (F.U. Screwattack)
People thinking Tao was a general.

I know it's not usually peoples fault, they're just ignorant and haven't seen the original. But oh man does it grind my gears.

I get the Mr. Satan stuff and Tao Pai Pai, but Bulma's father's last name is Brief/Briefs. It's not a stretch.

I believe that that's just his name. He doesn't have a last name, like most characters don't.

The fans in Japan are responsible for Toriyama making Goku the main character again in the Majin Boo arc.

This opinion has floated around in the fandom for years and grinds my gears to no end. Where did this even come from?

I think it's because of various character popularity polls where Goku just smashes other charactes out of the water. I mean its not even close between him and the other three popular characters Vegeta, Piccolo, and Gohan.

SSJ Vegeta: "Bitch, I'm adorable."

This doesn't make any sense. "Dr." is a title, not a name.

So? If someone's whole name is Mark, no last name, and he is a doctor, wouldn't you call him Dr. Mark? That's the case and it makes perfect sense. If you want any more proof, here: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... =7&t=21630

I might call him Dr. Mark. Are you claiming Brief(s) is his first name?

As I stated in my first post, "I believe that's just his name. He doesn't have a last name", so I don't see how could there be any lack of clarity regarding what I'm claiming. Read the topic I linked to and you'll see that Herms believes the same.

It goes along with the pun of the family being named after various underwear, so yes his full name would be Briefs.

I get that, it's just weird, and the issue isn't whether it's true or not, it's ultimately that it's not obvious. If someone calls Tao Pai Pai a general, then even the dub can dispell that issue then you can go further and explain that Tao Pai Pai is an assassin who isn't a part of the Red Ribbon Army. You'd have to be knowledgable about things that aren't explicitly state in the show itself. It could be very easy to think Briefs was a last name, so I don't see making such an error should grind anyone's gears.
