Well I hope whatever Soft-Glow filter they're using in the preview, goes away when the episode airs.
It's kinda gross, especially when Goku goes Super Saiyan.

And that NEP music is starting to wear on me. Hope there's a new one.

I wouldn't be surprised if after the next couple of episodes we also get a recap episode covering the U6 tournament and the Zamasu arc, much like we did before, with only little actual new animation. If they did it for the first tournament it's not impossible now either, especially since the grounds for this new arc have been laid out quite awhile ago.
Check out the videos below, made by yours truly!

I see,but it looks a little odd. If this is how the next arc will look then it might take me some time to get used to it.
Feel free to correct me if I say something wrong.

So, any of you guys know what that filter is all about?
It looks pretty ugly as of now, kinda hurts to look at

Are you sure you aren't looking at a bad upload or something? It still needs tweaking but I don't see how this would hurt to look at.

I think they're trying to make it look more like cel animation.

The colours kind of hurt look at, especially the whites..
Tu put it in words it's like a filter which increases the Whites a lot, maybe..

Is this gonna continue or just a preview thing? That looks like it's being forced to look like cel while not looking like that

They look fine to me here.

The bloom in the NEP is a little stronger though, no way to tell what the actual episode will look like, they're probably still fiddling with it.

I like it. Especially the Tenshinhan walking on the beach shot. It looks like it was made by another studio

Definitely. Here is an eg.

Image

Credit to zzToastie on Twitter.
The image on the left is the OG leaked image, with Super's usual palette. The one on the right is the one from the NEP. As far as i know, the leaks are generated from Fuji TV's website's itself. Someone fiddles with it and posts them online. Its been going on for so long that it has become a trend now.
It looks like they added the new palette not so long ago, that's why it feels so unpolished. I am pretty sure the actual episode will look a bit different. Though I am pleased to see them taking some bold steps. I hope they lessen the Brightness and make the images look a little more crisp.

The thicker line art is nice; it seems like a similar process that was applied to Tiger Mask W. If they want to go that direction with Super, then that's 100% fine by me.

I do not like the colour work and I do not like the glow, though. Again, it looks like a silly soft filter that's generally used to showcase dream sequences these days. It's out of date, and it looks bad.

The excessive contrast and muted colours remind me of the awful '90s DB Super' videos that have become popular. That isn't what cel animation looks like, and frankly, it looks like shit.

You all know I want new (and better) colour design for Super, but whatever this is, it isn't it. I can only hope that, much like the bizarre colour work we saw in #47's preview, this is just a stylistic choice for the promo.

It may not be since this is clearly very deliberate, but god, I sure hope it is. It's bafflingly awful.

Ok guys I think there are 2 versions of the filter. The Japanese TV Broadcast version has a different one than the one in the CrunchyRoll version. There is definitely a difference between both the versions.

This is the CrunchyRoll version:

This is the Japanese TV version(Fuji TV website version as well ?? I really dunno):

The Japanese version looks so much better. I think that version is the more definitive one, and the actual episode will look somewhat like that. The Videl-Gohan, Buu-Satan, Vegeta shots in it looks way better than the Crunchy one. It will be great if Ajay or any one of you can do a side by side comparison.

Interesting. You're right. There are extra lighting effects on the simulcast:

The Japanese version must have had more time to be tweaked and they must have handed streaming websites an earlier one. That's my guess.

I'm wishing that this isn't the final product.
They're probably still working on it, then be like" Oh shit, the episode is gonna air". Well, something like that in the Departement of Photography.

EDIT: That Japanese version looked way better, eventhough it's just a little change. I like the new color palette, because of the bloom. The japanese version did it better.
I'm bad at English and still learning. If there's anything wrong, please correct me. :D

Actually Toei give Crunchy the subs, Crunchy doesn't translate anything for Super hence why Super is simulcast on a multitude of platforms.

Oh yes you are correct, I forgot that for Super Toei hands them over the subs. But for broadcast, I think Toei must have handed them over the earlier version in advance and for the Japanese version they put out the latest one.

The next episode preview looked soooooooo good.
One thing I didn't enjoy was the brightness going up for some reason.

I think I made a joke about it like 3 months ago "youtuber fixes super's animation....he adds extra brightness".

Did Toei checked youtube to see what people in the west enjoy and watched one of these "super animation Z style"? It feels like something a youtuber would do to avoid copyright strikes.

Also did anyone notice that in the extended version of the 15 sec preview of the new arc in Toei's channel, they didn't add an instrumental version of the new opening song and instead they used an effect like audacity's lyrics remover? If you listen closely in the end you can hear the singer's voice in the background, compressed.

Did both these issues happen because the deadlines are so close?

Yea, probably the same height inconsistency presented in the anime

That would be moronic and would waste our time, really hope they don't do that.
