Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Maybe it's just me but I don't think the orange and blue clash. If the orange was brighter maybe, or if the hue was a little different. But at this tone... I think it looks fine. I don't think this cover art looks bad. I mean sure, I've seen better cover art but I've also seen worse.
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I know it's not very good and the Z looks strange, (it was that or Kai). But, I'd like it if FUNimation went with something like this. Maybe just a bit of a colour change and a different logo could make it look better.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I'm digging yours a lot better, not the font, but the choice of not using Orange. My idea was to keep it as original to FUNi's as possible while making few edits. Who knows, maybe the art and box design will change. You can't get rid of the blue Blu-Ray ribbon at the top, but we'll see what happens.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

I think that white side bar is too bland. And I don't like that logo. I really don't think FUNimation's version is bad.

The orange is a pretty bad choice. It just doesn't seem to match the rest of the box art.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

Random question, is that new artwork of Goku?

I think from a marketing standpoint it was a bad choice because it might make people think of the orange bricks.Chibi Gohan wrote:The orange is a pretty bad choice. It just doesn't seem to match the rest of the box art.
Visually though, I don't think it looks bad. For a DBZ release the colors seem OK. If this were say, Evangelion or Sailor Moon, I'd say yes. The colors are all wrong. But for DBZ cover art - where the character wears orange and blue for 95% of the series, I say it's fine.
I'm not gonna start responding to every post that is against the FUNimation cover art, I just had some extra time here and wanted to elaborate on my opinion I gave earlier.

I do agree with you about the colors being a bad choice from a marketing standpoint. I immediately thought, "Oh, no! Crappy transfer!", even though I'm well aware that there will be a new transfer. I've just always thought the orange used for the bricks was ugly, to begin with, and I agree with the others that it clashes terribly with the blue. It just looks off. Then again, I suppose it's the content that counts. I am just very particular about how my DVD/Blu-ray collection looks on the shelf. As of now, I still have the first two orange bricks that I haven't managed to get rid of, yet, and they're easily the ugliest things on the shelf.

Do what I did when I got the Dragon Boxes: Take the Orange Bricks and put them in the DVD cabinet. Or if you don't have one... hide them in a closet or something.Mountain wrote:As of now, I still have the first two orange bricks that I haven't managed to get rid of, yet, and they're easily the ugliest things on the shelf.

I'm a sucker too for art, but in the end, it's all about what the content is on disc.

Though not the same shades, the blue and orange remind me of Goku's colors.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Actually, that's why it was a good choice. While it might look ugly, the orange spine is clearly supposed to harken back to the "bricks" and the colors by which the three series are identified. If there are Dragon Ball Blu-rays in the future they'll probably have blue spines and GT's would be green.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:I think from a marketing standpoint it was a bad choice because it might make people think of the orange bricks.
From a marketing angle, it makes perfect sense. You want the traditional DBZ series to be easily distinguished from Kai or the Dragon Boxes. Therefore you group like things together.
While I think the choice is aesthetically unappealing, I think it's also a good way to develop some kind of product association. Just because these sets will be remastered better than the Orange Bricks doesn't mean they aren't in the same lineage.
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Just get rid of the dub speech and "Doragon Boru Zetto" and I'm happy. Hell, I don't even know why the dub speech is even on the cover of this particular set... Goku doesn't even say that for what, 80 more episodes?

This is the episode of when Gokuh enrages himself after Freezer talk shit about Kuririn

Not to mention, you can barely read it, anyhow.Kuwabara wrote:Just get rid of the dub speech and "Doragon Boru Zetto" and I'm happy. Hell, I don't even know why the dub speech is even on the cover of this particular set... Goku doesn't even say that for what, 80 more episodes?

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Is anyone else going to find it extremely difficult to watch 'Z' again after watching 'Kai'?
I'm not saying Kai was a perfect production, but the amount of filler, padding, time-wasting, etc, post Saiyan-saga makes Z a chore at best for me to watch.
Does anyone else feel this way?

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
No I think Kai is worse some of the filler is good in my opinion. But it depends on person I grew up with DBZ and don't really like kai but it personal preference.
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
No, Z's voice performances and music are almost always superior to Kai.

I grew up with Z too, but I don't think I could watch through 20 episodes of Goku and Freeza fighting with nothing much happening.enapace wrote:No I think Kai is worse some of the filler is good in my opinion. I'd probably skip over some of the final Freeza stuff, but I love a lot of the filler, too.dan2026 wrote:I grew up with Z too, but I don't think I could watch through 20 episodes of Goku and Freeza fighting with nothing much happening.enapace wrote:No I think Kai is worse some of the filler is good in my opinion.
