Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
My reading of that statement is that it does not in-universe "come after" the Freeza movie, but... like... real-life, chronologically in order of release, "Freeza movie came out, and then later on, this TV series is coming out."
As we stated in our news post, beyond a statement about it vaguely taking place after the defeat of Buu, there's nothing to go off of just yet in terms of its exact placement in the Dragon Ball "Age" timeline.

If they went with A) it would careless ignoring the new audience who saw the previous two movies. It wouldn't fit right re-introducing the new power-ups.Chuquita wrote:A) We start directly after Buu arc, ignoring the two movies.Dorexx wrote:What's everyone's predictions about the story?

I think they will go with C). If they went with B) it would ignore the ending of Kai that airs the week before, however the press release did state it takes place after the Buu arc... so it's a tough one.
I think they only mentioned "the aftermath of Goku’s fierce battle with Majin Buu" because more people can relate to that rather than the timeskip at the end of the manga. It also hypes up the Buu arc of Kai that Toei is eager for new viewers to engage with.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It would be a tad annoying for the series to come straight after Buu, the thought of Vegega being under Goku doesn't fly well with me, it's bound to happen eventually but I like where they are now as equals.

Naruto takes breaks, but only for the broadcast of two Pokemon episodes or a movie. Nevertheless, just about fifty episodes will air every year.Cold Skin wrote:Okay, but I thought that having two or three weeks gave them time to animate episodes of Sailor Moon Crystal.Lord Beerus wrote:Phew.Unicorn_Bazooka wrote: "Dragon Ball Super will debut this July and will run as a weekly series"
I'm pretty sure theres a difference between reanimating a series (essentially) and creating a whole new storyline.![]()
Cold Skin, why are you getting me so worked up for?
But if Dragon Ball Super goes weekly (which is good as it means less waiting for us), doesn't it mean that they'll have to do seasons and stop airing it for months sometimes to be drawing and animating new episodes?
Do shows like Naruto and One Piece ever take breaks? Can they keep going constantly on a weekly basis, meaning they manage to animate an entire 20 minutes-long episode in less than one week?!
Nope. Pocket Monster is the only currently running series where the episodes are key animated in advance (they're typically twenty episodes ahead of what is airing any given week). Studio Guts is doing key animation for One Piece Episode #698 and Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold Episode #4 this month. Most other shows have one-to-three episodes finished at any given time. The average episode is produced in 1-3 months. That means scripting, storyboarding, layouts, backgrounds, key animation (and corrections), in-between animation (and corrections), audio work (typically done to incomplete masters) and finishing touches all in the span of 4-12 weeks.Unicorn_Bazooka wrote: Aren't anime episodes animated like MONTHS prior to the actual airing?

What about predictions about just what's going to take place in the series? It seems like the most plausible story idea around this era is multiverse traveling/exploration, just crossing beyond the borders of the known universe, maybe a multiverse tournament, or just certain adventures all most likely leading up to a gigantic multiverse threat. Although I'd enjoy if it weren't, or at least not yet; the idea's been around for quite a long while, at least for me. I really hope there would be close to no fighting at all, but just lots of adventures. Of all varieties. The fighting has always been more enjoyable when it was minimal, or right at the end of the adventure, kind of setting you up to hope for the heroes to succeed even more. I assume it's going to be a lot more about gods and by extension the afterlife, and I hope so. The spiritual/supernatural is one of the key fascinating aspects of the DB universe.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
If it's after EoZ, can we expect Kai to have an exclusive ending?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I kinda feel the same way you do. Hopefully we get some fresh idea's instead of the same thing over and over again which we have been getting of late.AnimeMaakuo wrote:Toriyama is doing this for money, and it's starting to become like Star Wars and George Lucas. In my opinion, this is going to end up being terrible with plot holes. Instead of using hand drawn animation, it will look cheap with CGI effects and we'll see more super awesome extreme villain with Super Saiyan 7 capabilities and bigger planatary explosions! I can't wait!
The series ended a long time ago. There was nothing wrong with it. I don't need anybody to explain what happens after Majin Boo is defeated. Let my imagination take me hostage. I like consistency with older animation and story during the time of their creation, and the time gap between these is more than enough to not accept it as canon.

This is something i am watching out for. If Kai ends differently to how Z ended then i think Dragon Ball Super will continue on from Kai's ending.Doctor. wrote:If it's after EoZ, can we expect Kai to have an exclusive ending?

I don't expect much beyond maybe a "Stinger" teasing the first villain of DBS. Either way we'll probably get some art of the series come early May or so and that might give us a solid idea of timeline placement.Doctor. wrote:If it's after EoZ, can we expect Kai to have an exclusive ending?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Kai's newest (and probably last) ending sequence is almost entirely focused on the Z epilogue though, so it doesn't seem like it's heading to a different ending.Doctor. wrote:If it's after EoZ, can we expect Kai to have an exclusive ending?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I just had a thought, does anyone recall what the narrator said at the start of BoG? does he specifically say there has been a time of peace since Majin Buu was defeated?.
I am clutching at very, very short straws here I know.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I think, considering Toriyamas been pretty consistent with all of the things he's been involved with lately being related to each other (reference to Vegeta's brother in BOG from Yo Son Goku! And the inclusion of Beerus and Jaco in ROF... ), it makes sense it will follow in this direction. Now it could always be after uub shows up, but I bet it'll take place after ROF and show us what happens next. There's also the chance it could start after ROF and surpass EOZ and keep going. But I definitely think we'll see some blue hair.VegettoEX wrote:My reading of that statement is that it does not in-universe "come after" the Freeza movie, but... like... real-life, chronologically in order of release, "Freeza movie came out, and then later on, this TV series is coming out."

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I am hopeful it takes place after the tournament... or at very least the new movies.
It taking place right after Buu would be bad with everyone downgraded again and no tension at all.
With this news maybe TOEI will animate the new ending to Z that was done in 2004.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The thing is though if it does only take place after Buu and not EoZ well is that really a sequel? It's more just like extra Z.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
DBS starts airing before the blue ray release of ROF. That's a big problem for me because I can't watch DBS without having seen ROF.

I think that Boo saga ends with Oob as good heir of Kid boo,
therefore, Dragon ball S will continue from there.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The more I think about it the more concerned I become about the budget for this series and how it might effect a lot of things.
As I understand it, the lion's share of Kai's budget went toward simply paying the voice actors, many of whom are veterans and are fairly expensive to hire. Now, this wasn't as huge of an issue for Kai as it could've been since it's re-spliced footage anyway, which presumably costs a lot less than animating new stuff from the ground up.
I'm sure Super will have a higher budget than Kai, owing to it being a new series and coming off of the success of BoG and RF, but it's also going to have to balance that higher budget between brand new animation, the voice actors, however much they're paying Toriyama for the plotting, coming up with the actual scripts...
The animation could end up being terrible, the core cast could end up being shrunk to just Goku and Vegeta...any number of things could end up happening to save costs if it just gets a typical Toei budget.
