They do, it just has a different meaning. But tv is definitely affected, by breaks and low ratings.

Sazae didn't air that week because Maruko-chan was a 1-hour special. Kindaichi was a special too, so no Conan.
Speaking of which, it's a good sign that Kindaichi had a long special and it still wasn't enough to beat a regular DBS episode.
Hmm, strange that the ratings went considerably up from episode 23 to 25, then. If people watch anime less during Christmas?

Super aired after Christmas ended and on its usual weekend slot, so it probably didn't feel much impact. Also, when do we get a Dragonball Christmas Special? :D

Next time, on a Very Special Episode of Dragon Ball Super: Kuririn has a heartwarming encounter with some spunky orphans. Bulma decides to donate most of the Capsule Corp fortune to help the homeless. Vegeta learns the true meaning of Christmas and his heart grows three sizes. And Gokuu continues training at Kaiou's planet.

Oh, wait, this is Japan...everyone gets together to eat KFC and Christmas cake. The end!

Now, on the actual topic of ratings, I'm curious if there'll be an obvious spike later this month when the Champa arc starts. It's been advertised that new content is on the way, so maybe casual fans will start tuning in once that starts. Or maybe it'll have more of an impact on the DVR rankings? Or both? I wonder if it would happen right away, or if ratings would see a gradual rise week to week. In any case, though I know the show is doing fine, I'd love to see the ratings go higher!

There will be a spike, that's almost guaranteed. With the DVR rankings being the most affected, all because of the retellings. That is if my assumption is true: mainly kids watch the show live, while older fans record the show.

Even with the recent advertisement, the hype is gone. They promised us a new Dragon Ball show 6 months ago and so far they've given us old material. Just look at this forum, it was always full with at least five threads at full speed.
The more casual fans won't return, at the least majority of them. The returnees will be those who choose to skip the show until the new stuff started.

It was huge DB coming back, everywhere in the World people talked about it. With the retellings, they failed to grab that huge chunk of people. This won't perfectly translate to the ratings, but the same effects must have happened in Japan.

It's partly the loss of the not knowing what'll happen next week. We briefly got it back during the eps 15 - 18 and I had a lot of fun there, but now we're back to mostly spinning our wheels until the F arc is over.

I'm looking forward to Uni 6 just so I can go week to week guessing again.
On hiatus.

http://www.tvguide.or.jp/ranking/timerr ... index.html

DVR Rating: 14th of December- 20th of December
1st: Lupin III - 100.0
2nd: One Piece - 74.5 (Up 1)
3rd: One Punch Man - 62.3 (Final Episode) (Up 2)
4th: Mobile Suit Gundam - 59.1 (Up 3)
5th: Gintama - 55.4 (Up 3)
6th: Dragon Ball Super (Episode 24) - 53.4 (Up 3)
7th: One Piece: Adventure of Nebulandia - 41.8 (Special)
8th: Kamen Rider - 39.6 (Up 2)
9th: Soreike! Anpanman - 38.5 (Up at least 2)
10th: Osomatsu-san - 37.0 (New entry)

Yokai Watch, Doraemon and Detective Conan didn't air. Super improves it's percentage slightly, I think that's because Lupin III is getting weaker, most other shows showed improvement with the exception of One Piece.
One Punch Man finishes on the podium. I'm honestly surprised, I don't think the show deserves the praise it gets. I love the manga but the TV show is just OK. The plot is very thin, it doesn't work well in a TV format. It's only stuff happening randomly. Anyway just my opinion.

That's certainly important. Tagoma's episode were he switches with Ginyu, was the episode I most anticipated and was most disappointed with. New interesting material with a cliffhanger ending work.

I'm curious to see how much the anime will differ from the manga, because as it stands we kinda already know what will happen in the beginning of the arc.

I mostly agree with you, but to be fair, a lot of that «huge chunk of people» had never watched the 2 new movies.

Did we not get any word on Episode 26? It's been 9 days since the last post, usually it should be out by now.

For all the promotion TOEI have done for U6/30th anniversary, surely episode 28 will be in top 3?

The rating will surely improve but there's no way it will be top 3.Next episode will probably be around 7.0 but who knows it could be higher.

Even with retellings and animation problems, Dragon Ball was always on top10...
Now, the fun begins.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I think that Super is getting such a bad reputation in Japan (and on the interenet) that it won't matter that we're going into the U6 stuff, it still won't get that much better ratings because of it, but we'll see.
