Listening to it again, Mai DEFINITELY sounds like a filtered Nadolny. The rasp and scratchiness that she puts into her Kid Goku and Kid Gohan voices is there but at a higher pitch. It's funny seeing as Colleen Clinkenbeard is Mai in the FUNi dub of Super and she's the current voice of Kid Goku and Kid Gohan

DB Super Episode 4 Notes
I'm sleep-deprived, so don't expect my normal constructive critiques.
Script- Do I need to even say this anymore?
Narrator- Dude, seriously, get out of the booth, Trunks!
Kaio- I love him, he's like a sober Rick and that's wonderful.
Goku- Lex, the yells, I can't take it anymore. Stop holding back! I'm also starting to doubt the direction of the character from the director, as you articulate as Goku similar to a scholar. Goku is no scholar, he's a hillbilly.
Android 18- 10/10
Bulma- 10/10
Chi-Chi- Why are all the female characters amazingly acted?
Krillin- it's official, he sucks. He sounds like someone who has no discipline, almost jock-like. I just can't get behind that voice.
Trunks -She has stayed so consistent that no problems in her voice have shown up! Good on ya, Ms. Mendez!
Goten- I get a real "50's Astro Boy" vibe, and I'm not sure if I like it yet. Little Nasally, too.
Mai- It's Nadolny with a Voice Modifier? It sounds like Nadolny, with a voice modifier. Even if it isn't Nadolny, there is almost definitely voice modifier involved and it's distracting.
Pilaf- It sounds like FUNi Pilaf, and you know I'm okay with that.
Dog- I can't even remember the Dog's name, and the voice actor does nothing to help me care to remember it. I'm sorry, I have nothing to say on him, I just don't like the voice. This one isn't constructive, I guess it's just personal opinion.
Script Part 2- I miss the Big Green, at least it was bad and funny.
Vegeta- See, he gets the grunts. Listen to those, a bit held back, but at-least there is some oomph. I also have to say that Kaiji Tang has gone on record saying that he took criticisms of his voice to heart and made sure to address those flaws. Unfortunately, due to what episode he was recording when Episode 1 aired, we won't be able to hear his corrections until episode 11-12.
Goku (Cont.) -"...KAHHHHMEUUUUHHEEEEERHHHHMEEEEEEEHHUAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" Lex, buddy? Are, are you having a stroke? I mean, even phonetically that isn't right, that's just a straight up mispronunciation. I'm gonna chalk that up to the Director, just as I am almost positive someone had to have told you to pronounce it like that.
Final Notes:
Next Episode sinks or floats with Lex's Goku for me. If he can't pull off the yells, then this episode will fall flat. If he can, however, Lex will have seriously proven many of us wrong. I'm rooting for him, I want him to show us he can be Goku!

The more I hear of King Kai the more I think of Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty. I don't know why, but it just works so well. But then again, Rick and Morty is my favourite animated show of all time. I'm quite mixed on the Pilaf Gang's VA's. I really can't stand how raspy and deep Pilaf is and as others have noted, Mai sounds a lot like Nadolny's Goku/Gohan with a modifier. Shu is actually the most fitting of all the voices. That really doesn't bode well. I've also soured on Krillin with the more I've heard from him. This episode has also confirmed by biggest fear with Lex Lang's Goku... he can't yell or scream to save his life. The "Kamehameha" from Goku sounded like he was constipated. This is going to make his later fights scene, of which there are many, sound incredibly weird with Goku shouting sounding so half-hearted. But the biggest issue with the dub is the literal copy-cut-paste job done with the script. This is seriously limiting the parameter of the voice actors and just makes the voice acting sound so awkward. Goku, Vegeat and King Kai suffer the greatest from this problem with the direction. This dub needs a major shake-up in the directional department of this dub will be forever considered sub-standard at best. But despite all this... Wendee Lee continues to deliver the goods with Bulma. God bless her. What a talented and versatile VA she is. She is the major saving grace of this whole dub.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread
First of all, Bang Zoom needs a better scriptwriter.
What's with all the rasp on the narrator all of a sudden?
Mai sounds like Nadolny, Shuu sounds good, Pilaf sounds like Funi.
Lee's Bulma and McConnohie's Kaio still rock.
Goten and Trunks still sound good.
Krillin is okay.
Android 18 and Chi-Chi are good.
Vegeta still needs improvement.
Lang as Goku still continues to disappoint me. And that Kamehameha was terrible. What was the director thinking when she cast him? There were actors who could have done better.

Pilaf is most definitely Tom Fahn. Heard around that it's Julie Maddalena as Mai.

But no, Wendee Lee is so good. Making this script work takes miracles, and again I say all of the female cast barring Mai so far have done more than pull it off!

Still loving Michael McConnohie. Really wish he was the narrator instead. The narrator is just going a little nuts with that rasp. There's no heft to his performance. Lex Lang's getting better. He's bringing out a bit more energy this time. But, I wish the director let him go a bit more nuts with his foley. I like that Kuririn's voice is smoother. The Pilaf gang sounded pretty good. But both Kaioshin sounded pretty awkward. #18's delivery is too normal, but she has a nice voice. And, I'm really disappointed that nearly every character that Sabat voiced is an impersonation. : / Each and every one of the actors they cast would have more potential using their own voices.
Both Lex and Roger are good actors, but I don't know. I think they're far too old for Sonic. Acting-wise, Roger's really good. But, there were times that Sonic just sounded like Knuckles. He fits the Boom design more, though.ProjectAlpha22 wrote: Goku- He gets the character, I've said this time and time again, but his voice is too low for my tastes, and his yells are waaaaaay too held back. Although, Lex, if Sonic ever needs a new actor, I totally think you should go for it (don't take that as an insult, I'm dead serious!).

Is the Toonami Asia airing unedited for content, like the Adult Swim one has been so far?

I hate to say it but this dub is honestly starting to feel like a drag to me, there's good actors but the direction just isn't there. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to keep up with it.
The Funimation dub is so much better produced that the fact it falls behind next week won't even matter.

I'm just pretty much skipping segments and seeing how certain scenes are being handled. I can now say with confidence that Beerus was miscast, that beginning exchange was awful, so much character should be shown in Beerus from that exchange but we get nothing here from BZ dub.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:I hate to say it but this dub is honestly starting to feel like a drag to me, there's good actors but the direction just isn't there. BZ have only just started on 10 so I'd predict we'll probably get repeats soon so FUNi will probably catch up soon enough anyway.
Nope. Usual kids TV censoring Herucle, no dirty jokes and cutting all the rude stuff like Roshi perving. Unfortunately there won't be an uncut dub for this.DrBriefsCat wrote:Is the Toonami Asia airing unedited for content, like the Adult Swim one has been so far?

Calling us all a bunch of 15-25 year olds without evolved thinking isn't nice either, Lex. In fact, I'm pretty sure that in itself is a sort of name-calling. Come On guys wtf!!! Even the guy who he had tuff with moved on, why are you guys bringing up old forgotten things again and again and provoking him?? Do you guys want to turn this forum into battle arena between fans and VA's or what??
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread
So, assuming that really is Nadolny, this means this dub now has:
- TWO returning VAs from the Harmony Gold cast (Wendee Lee and Michael McConnohie).
- A returning VA from the Final Bout cast (Lex Lang).
- A returning VA from the FUNimation cast (Stephanie Nadolny).
Now we just need a returning VA from the Ocean cast and one from the Blue Water cast for this to feature returning members of all the North American DB casts (I'm not counting the Big Green and Malaysian English dubs of the movies).

That's interesting. Maybe those words mean less in these days? I remember when the Shadow the Hedgehog game came out and it had an increased rating and a separate warning from PEGI about Bad Language. As a kid I was excited swearing in a Sonic game it's gonna be so cool!! I remember playing through it and didn't notice anything then found out it was only for when Shadow says damn when he died haha. As a kid growing up "damn" was never considered a bad word, I'd get scolded at by teachers and parents for saying "bloody" but never for saying "damn".VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Oddly enough though, mild swear words like "damn" and "hell" have been kept in

Yeah, I definitely think Mai is Nadolny. The same exact inflections and line deliveries, and the scene where they were all crying was a dead giveaway.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Mai is Julie Maddalena. Almost certain on that. I'm not hearing Nadolny at all.
The Bang Zoom! dub is using Shuu, while the FUNimation dub for some reason reverted back to using Shou.
