The smoothing was not an issue at all for me. I only hope the Dragonball sets ONLY have the same "problems" as the previous sets. Very few of the problems that people complain about when it comes to these sets don't bother me at all. It's things like ghosting and macroblocking that annoy me. Though, that is probably because of my horrible ADHD.

I got a message from welchcompositions asking me to please remove the trailer, apparently he wasn't supposed to put it up so he's pleading that all people who put up the trailer remove it (or well what I did was I set it to Private so that way I can have it up as public again when it does officially come out).

He said otherwise he could be in big trouble with FUNimation, like be fired (lose his job) or be sued or something, who knows, and even though I didn't like his trailer music, come on guys, its not fair to the guy!

I went and uploaded it somewhere less public. If anyone thinks it may still cause him problems where it is, I'll remove it.

I think he's implying that this is another one of FUNi's tricks where they say one thing in order to draw attention to it.

I personally do not think that is the case, though.

Does Funimation even really need to market Dragonball stuff. They just need to say "Hey! This is coming out!" and then give us the specs. They should know that we're discerning and aren't going to be fooled by their "ingenious" marketing ploys.

No one is going to base their purchase off of their catch-phrase-rific trailers. We only use them to figure out if we like what they did to the video or not.

Well, that's us, not their stated target audience (9 year olds). I'm sure they really can be swayed by fast-paced, action-packed, "AWESOME" trailers. FUNi are pretty much genius marketers, there is pretty good logic behind most of their marketing.

I don't know any kid Dragon Ball fans anymore... so I'm not sure how that marketing stratagy works.

I don't know. I have a cousin who is exactly their target demographic, 9 and male. He likes a lot of the new Shonen coming out, but I showed him the trailer for this (I was waiting for Dragonball releases to try and get him hooked) and he seemed less than enthused. He thought it looked old.

So, I don't really see that their marketing stategy applies to much of anyone. What they consider to be their target demogaphic and who they angle the trailers at, consider their product to be uninteresting. Though he was just one kid, I think it still says something.

The people who actually buy these products likely won't be swayed buy the trailers.

I know, what I said was more of a joke on their old statement of "there's a nine year old born every day". And I agree, that isn't really the best target audience, but it definitely isn't there only one, and may not even be their largest one (I see more late-night Cartoon Network commercials for the season sets than I do at any other time).

Like you said, he is just one kid (but it does seem like an accurate overall response, none the less), but even more so than that, it is just one trailer for one segment of one release of one third of the overall series (one fourth of the series if you count the movies as their own field, which FUNi has pretty much made them). I agree that a seemingly majority of their consumers of these season sets, people like us (even though I kind of find that hard to believe when you consider the millions of units the first season set sold, and how small the size of the modern "hard-core" Dragonball fandom is), aren't and won't be swayed by the catchy-ness of their trailers, but the more the title gets out there, the more it rests in peoples' minds.

I wouldn't be surprised if your cousin was a little intrigued by some of the Dragonball Z season set or movies trailers (and if he's one of those "hip yo FO-SHO" kids, maybe even an original GT trailer :P).

Now that you bring up the origial GT trailer, it probably was good marketing for them to aim at generic FO-SHO kids. They were marketing a decade newer product which probably could be pushed on kids.

I just think that they waste their time being so concerned about the Dragonball trailer. At least when they still consider their audience to be 9 year old boys.

Keep in mind that this set hasn't even been officially announced yet. Funi wants to keep this under wraps for the time being, even if they're doing a piss poor job of it. :D

They are completely responsible for all the leaks that have happened.

Being as this set has the 21st Tournament on here, they should be marketing the fights instead of having clips from the first few episodes. Those fights will cause those kids to be excited and want to buy the set. Remember, the first 13 episodes are almost boring as hell. I like them but they won't cause the average person to want to be interested in Dragonball.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I completely disagree. I think the first 13 are some of the most adventurous and awesome. That's what first got me into Dragon Ball. I don't think it's a bad idea to market the first hunt for Dragon Balls for Dragon Ball.

You're making the mistake of thinking kids are going to see this whether via the television or some other hotspot for the youngsters.
