The show isn't getting a bad reputation in Japan, no show like that would rank in the top 10 every single week. The episode that really got a bad buzz was #5. As that didn't affect ratings, probably nothing will.

By my own experience, story arcs don't tend to bump ratings a whole lot, but the new stuff is getting so much media attention and marketing promotions that i wouldn't be surprised if they rise a little bit.

Adult fans seem to be mixed on Super, but I think the younger fans and parents watching it with them seem to enjoy it. You also have casual fans that watch Dragon Ball, but don't follow it deeply like we do.

The difference is going from one new arc to another wouldn't cause many to rush to see the new episode more then before, but when the first 2 seasons were just the films retold we have a big incentive for people to watch. A lot of people are holding off until champa, even those who don't watch on TV will only will watch again from here on. There's no garentee however I think the ratings will improve from 27-28. Which is good because the show needs good viewership to survive Toei's questionable business tactics with the show so far.

Not sure about that. A lot of the more superficial complaining and nitpicking seems to come from immature teen fans. I'm 23 and I'm enjoying Super for what it is, my main issue with it is the animation/art and censorship (the soundtrack also needs some improvement but it's not as bad as some are making it out to be)

Yeah it seams to be the teens. Adult fans seam to have more legit reasons for hating on it. Hopefully champa changes there minds.

It isn't getting a bad reputation in japan? Well either way It's in the top 10 because it DB not because of anything else.

Kinda surprised with One Piece. Since it was the Gear 4 transformation, I was expecting a higher rating.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

http://www.tvguide.or.jp/ranking/timerr ... index.html

DVR Rating: 4th of January - 10th of January
1st: Lupin III - 100.0
2nd: Yokai Watch - 83.7
3rd: One Piece - 80.8
4th: Detective Conan (1 hour Special) - 67.4 (Didn't air last time)
5th: Gintama - 59.2
6th: Mobile Suit Gundam - 50.8 (Down 2)
7th: Dragon Ball Super (Episode 26) - 50.4 (Down 1)
8th: Kamen Rider - 43.2 (Down 1)
9th: Osomatsu-san - 40.3 (Down 1)
10th: Soreike! Anpanman - 40.3 (Up at least 1)

Detective Conan returns in 4th, bumping everyone down a spot. The exception being Mobile Suit Gundam, that drops two places. One Piece had a huge percentage rise, almost dropping Yokai Watch to third.
Dragon Ball has a steady week. Let's see how episode 27 fairs, if we can hope for a rise with the new incoming arc.

Pretty average ratings. I would have thought that the the beginning of Champa arc would have boosted rating a bit. But I guess once they get into the meat of the story ratings will pick up.

I thought the audience would increase slightly, closing up of One Piece but I think it's just going to keep it, even if this saga "Champa" had a good disclosure.

I wasn't expecting any real significant change and it doesn't look like there was one at all in relation to One Piece which saw a similiar increase from last week too.

As long as the show can maintain its ratings of around 7th place it should be alright. The rank and the ratings range have been pretty consistent ever since Episode 4.

Yeah, and if it keeps up consistently on the 6.0 level, it's gonna be awesome. See how big was the gap to Yokai and Kindaichi this week.

DB is OP's lead-in, so if Super increases, One Piece will, too. It'll never "close up" to it, save for some exceptional circumstance.

Related. Vale on TV ratings for kids shows:
How important are TV ratings? And is it different for children's program and late night anime?

At this point many people are recording shows or watching them streamed online, so TV ratings are mere guidelines at best. This is especially true for late night anime. For morning (kids') shows or daytime programmes it's somewhat more accurate, but still not a definite indicator of whether something will sell or not.

Oh yes, especially when DB is ranked up there with TV titans like Detective Conan which have been running for 20+ consecutive years.

Obviously merchandising is more important, but it gives me warm fuzzies to know Dragon Ball is still drawing the eyeballs of young fans in Japan.
