Like I explained in my response, what you're comparing are two entirely separate frames. The filter has nothing to do with what you're describing, it's just a different drawing.

They are the exact same cliffs. Plus, those cliffs are background art, not the work of any animator. Meaning that is just a different frame.

Filter seems to be present in these images too.

It's not nearly as heavy, though (well, except for that Goku). That's a good sign, I think a very light version of this filter could work well for Super.

Yeah, although that close-up Goku looks pretty bad. If they're actually going through with this, they really need to ditch the highlights, because bright colors do not work with the filter because of the weird contrast.

What's interesting is that there are different filters within those images. For eg, the Goku and Bulma shots look way similar to the Japanese version of the preview, while the Gohan, OP Goku, and even the Androids 17-18 shots look way similar to the CR version of the NEP from last week's episode(Also those images have excessive lighting like the CR version of the NEP). So I feel that these aren't final and tomorrow's OP and episode will have a more consistent filter.

Wait, what is wrong with that sensu in the second last picture, that looks really, really off. I presume it has something to do with the bean not having any sort of outline around it.

That's probably a bullet. According to Herms Goku gets attacked by some robbers.

Goku is most likely deflecting it back in the same way Raditz did to the shotgun bullet the farmer fired.

Yes and given Bulma's face, he's obviously firing it at her

Ok so it looks like Starting #77 Super will be upto 5 series directors. Ryota Nakamura and Nagamine are joining as Co directors.

Chioka? Screwed.
Hatano? Screwed.
Nakamura and Nagamine are next. DBS is hilarious.

In all seriousness this is terrible news and once again shows how poorly the series is managed.

I guess Nagamine at least is the storyboard artist of the new Opening. He's been missing for a while now, so I had suspected that he was maybe coming back to Dragon Ball. His Openings for the franchise have been superb, so I hope he isn't screwed over here.

After looking at these images, I'm beginning to think having the filter along with the line processing effect actually looks kind of ugly. The line processing is supposed to give this sort of sharp edge and thickness to the character art, and by itself, I think it could look good. However, when coupled with this filter which de-saturates the image, the linework comes out looking more smeary than the intended sharp. This actually softens the impact of the image instead of enhancing it. The two best examples I can think of from above would be the thick line Goku in his gi picture and the Gohan picture.

I really wasn't expecting Nagamine of all people to be honest. I thought he was going to lead the new Sailor Moon series.

With the treatment both Hatano and Chioka got, I fully believe that Nagamine will also be screwed. We'll see though. I hope the OP will at least be nice.
