Well all I've heard is the Kai voice. Do you have a link to the original?
As for Kai, it's just a ridiculous shrill "character" voice and I don't think it's by any means great.
Agreed, it's no where near as memorable as her performance and voice for Kuririn. I don't see how anyone could have issues with the English voice for Yajirobe, it hits all the same beats of wackiness of the original. It's just dare I say more suited for the character than Tanaka's version.
I'd have to agree. I actually quite like the dub version.

I actually don't know if that's the voice Toriyama had in mind. It could go either way, really. I'm sure people in Japan reading the Manga before watching the Anime would've pictured Kaiō with a voice similar to that of the dub.
Now you're just making stuff up. Either stick to facts or stick to opinions. Quit changing the importance of either based on what's most convenient to you and quit trying to use your speculation on something we'll never know as fact.

FUNimation is dubbing the anime, and in the anime, Kaiô isn't portrayed based on "Silly people must sound silly" which makes their portrayal of Kaiô inaccurate. The viewer's perception of the character is drastically changed in the process.

Well we got ourselves an actual fan who read the comic without influence from the anime: Jeff! And when mike showed him the two voicesm he said he had a voice similar to Jouji Yanami's in his mind as he read.

I'm not even talking about the Cell Games, though. It's not even just what he did/said, but the way he said it. It reminded me of Yajirove for some reason, but either way, it was annoying, and felt very out of characters.

I'm incredibly happy with every recast/revision so far. Besides the others which are frequently mentioned, the Grand Elder is awesome.

I'm okay with different interpretations as long as they don't annoy me and/or take me completely out of the show. Schemmel's Kaiō really is painful to listen to, personally. I'm not a huge fan of most of the cast, but they don't bug me that badly. The only voices that do are Yajirobe, Gyū Maō, and Kaiō.
Ah, it seems you aren't a big fan of the "Nasally" effect in the voice, eh?

Why do people think King Kai is such an important character anyway?

Apart from teaching Goku Kaio-Ken, and Spirit Bomb, for the rest of the series all he does is cheer from the sidelines basically.

That's the power of Yanami's performance.

Heck, with the way he voices the narrator the two might as well be the same character. I'd say that's very important!

I just thought it was funny how they cut Vegeta standing on Appule's head but just showed Vegeta looking down and talking to... nothing.

But was Ouran's death in Kai at all? I mean, if we're going all "close to the manga," there was no Ouran, just Appule, and Freeza didn't kill him.

It's very rusty in Kai, but in the original, Tanaka's performance is pretty much Krillin if he was a huge asshole. It's such a 180, you(well, me anyway) don't even stop to think, "hey, it's Krillin's voice." It's very akin to Nozawa's Tullece in Movie 3, where it's obviously her playing him, but it's just not Goku.

I can't blame anyone for hating Yajirobe in Kai, though. She's clearly either forgotten how to do it, or just phoned it in. It's nowhere near as shrill and high in Dragon Ball.

Technically, though, you're supposed to. When Goku first meets Yajirobe, he says that his voice reminds him of Kuririn.

What the hell? Did Vegeta mentally make out a "dear lord Frieza" letter in the Japanese version when he found the Dragon Balls?

Holy shit, the scene at the beginning gave me a nostalgia trip. That was the first Dragon Ball Z scene I ever saw, and they actually had Vegeta say the Ocean dub line when he was hiding behind the door ("This is like taking candy from a baby!")

Metalwario64: Yes, he did, and it's lulzy. I was disappointed when Funi changed it to just a general statement in the Z dub.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Well, that's good to hear. I don't think I saw this scene in Japanese, or at least not since Season Two came out. I still haven't watched every episode of the Dragon Boxes yet either, so I'm pretty sure I skipped the Z counterpart of this episode on there as well...

Good to hear it's not another instance of FUNi trying to be FUNi again... It was quite humorous.

Chris is rockin' Freeza. I'm so glad Z Kai's dub ended up in this fashion.
