Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.
Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Indeed, but I wouldn't want things rushed as I would like to see specific things in detail, and that would take most of the actual runtime (probably even more).Neo-Makaiōshin wrote:Good stories are independent of their runtime, it all comes down to properly use every second you have.
Since this movie will unfortunately deal with the "main cast" and in the present time, I'm sure there won't be enough time for what's really interesting.
Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
It depends how they are presented, we can know more about the Saiyans without necessarily showing Bardock (again) or Gine which yes it would be fan service.Grimlock wrote:Curiosity: do you say that all flashback/scenes about the past that contribute to lore/story in all other franchises are also fanservice?
Which RoF failed to do, so people are right to be worried about this movie being a rushed piece of material only focused on fights (again).Neo-Makaiōshin wrote:Good stories are independent of their runtime, it all comes down to properly use every second you have.Grimlock wrote:If they want to tell a proper and decent story (if there is any) this time, then that runtime is too little. Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Battle of Gods says otherwise, that movie lenght was 85 minutes long (theatrical cut). In that time the movie managed to expand the lore, flesh out new characters, develop old ones, have some comedy and have a few fights. And before that we had Wrath of The Dragon which did something close to BoG in just 55 minutes.Noah wrote:Which RoF failed to do, so people are right to be worried about this movie being a rushed piece of material only focused on fights (again).
Outside of the movies you have both Bardock: The Father of Goku, The History of Trunks which both did the above (sans comedy) in just 48 minutes.
Telling good stories while balancing old stuff, new stuff and having fights in a short runtime is not impossible.

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Just a reminder that the movie isn't actually going to be 90 minutes long. Toei wanted the film to be 90 minutes, but because of Toriyama's lengthy script and Nagamine's longer than expected storyboard, the runtime got extended "by a little bit". We only have that to go by, but I'm expecting the movie to be 105 minutes long.

The original Brolli movie 8 was almost 90 minutes, by comparison.

72 minutes is not quite close to be "almost" 90 minutes.Chuquita wrote:The original Brolli movie 8 was almost 90 minutes, by comparison.

It told me 1 hour 20 minutes.
I actually did check Kanzenshuu's main site first, but the movie guide doesn't list run times.

How would you make a prequel to Star Wars/Luke Skywalker without showing Darth Vader/Anakin? A prequel to Lion King without showing Ahadi and Uru? Scenes about the past of Naruto without showing Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki? Scenes about the past of Atem without showing Aknamkanon?Noah wrote:It depends how they are presented, we can know more about the Saiyans without necessarily showing Bardock (again) or Gine which yes it would be fan service.

Huh? Bardock isn't an important figure like any of those listed above though...Grimlock wrote:How would you make a prequel to Star Wars/Luke Skywalker without showing Darth Vader/Anakin? Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Indeed, Bardock is just the responsible for Goku being alive as soon as he decided to send him to another planet, when he could have just ignored everything. If Goku breathes and protects Universe today, a great part of the credits (shared with some others, of course) go to Bardock but you are right, he is not an important figure at all.

If the anime starts back up I’d be all for haulting the anime again for a movie focused on the ancient Saiyans and stopping at where Bardock sends Goku to Earth. So a couple 100 years if not thousands would be fast forwarded there. It doesn’t have to be a movie could be an anime arc but I doubt they’d show it in the anime where it’s be Gokuless. Wasn’t there 3 websites trademarked? DB 2018, 2019 and 2020? Could be some kind of Saiyan origin trilogy.

If the anime will come back anytime soon it'll start with a retelling of this Broly movie (hopefully an adaptation of Toriyama's original script that reached 3 hours).Xeztin wrote:If the anime starts back up I’d be all for haulting the anime again for a movie focused on the ancient Saiyans and stopping at where Bardock sends Goku to Earth. Right I hope it adapts it! Part of me thinks the reason they haulted the anime was because if they have a cannon movie running alongside the anime while its playing an entirely different new arc then people will look at the movie like they did the Z movies. “It didn’t happen” though I really think they should start the ani back up in January while the iron is still hot to do the Broly movie.Green_Goblin wrote:If the anime will come back anytime soon it'll start with a retelling of this Broly movie (hopefully an adaptation of Toriyama's original script that reached 3 hours).Xeztin wrote:If the anime starts back up I’d be all for haulting the anime again for a movie focused on the ancient Saiyans and stopping at where Bardock sends Goku to Earth. 'Canon' has always had been adapted into the series continuation. From that perspective i could understand they'd adapt the movie with Toriyama's full length script into the anime.
I wouldn't be horrified if they didn't, but i wouldn't really object if they did. It somehow makes sense.

Which is awesome casting; both have done multiple roles I've enjoyed in the past. I'm looking forward to hearing them both!BlueBasilisk wrote:https://twitter.com/Herms98/status/1039635781290156034

There’s one problem. While the 3 websites were trademarked, if they really were for movies, then how come they didn’t use dragonball2018.com but instead made a completely different website for the 2018 movie?Xeztin wrote:If the anime starts back up I’d be all for haulting the anime again for a movie focused on the ancient Saiyans and stopping at where Bardock sends Goku to Earth. Infact, its pretty likely that some fan just trademarked the domain names easily hoping Toei would buy them from him/her or whatever.
I called it that Gogeta, Bardock, and something Broly related would be in the movie before it was even announced that it was a Broly movie.

Tomokazu Sugita is one of the male voice actors I wanted to see the most in Dragon Ball. Good t see it's finally happening, even though it's a waste he will be just another Freeza soldier. Anyway I guess he's glad, since he's a DB fan.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
